[rv-3-8] • 11 श्लोकाः

अञ्जन्ति त्वामध्वरे देवयन्तो वनस्पते मधुना दैव्येन । यदूर्ध्वस्तिष्ठा द्रविणेह धत्ताद्यद्वा क्षयो मातुरस्या उपस्थे ॥

añjanti tvāmadhvare devayanto vanaspate madhunā daivyena | yadūrdhvastiṣṭhā draviṇeha dhattādyadvā kṣayo māturasyā upasthe ||

Vanaspati, the devout anoint you with sacred butter at the sacrifice; and whether you stand erect, or your abode be on the lap of this your mother (earth), grant us riches.

समिद्धस्य श्रयमाणः पुरस्ताद्ब्रह्म वन्वानो अजरं सुवीरम् । आरे अस्मदमतिं बाधमान उच्छ्रयस्व महते सौभगाय ॥

samiddhasya śrayamāṇaḥ purastādbrahma vanvāno ajaraṃ suvīram | āre asmadamatiṃ bādhamāna ucchrayasva mahate saubhagāya ||

Standing on the east of the kindled (fire), dispensing food (as the source) of undecaying (health) and excellent progeny, keeping off our enemy at a distance, stand up for great auspiciousness.

उच्छ्रयस्व वनस्पते वर्ष्मन्पृथिव्या अधि । सुमिती मीयमानो वर्चो धा यज्ञवाहसे ॥

ucchrayasva vanaspate varṣmanpṛthivyā adhi | sumitī mīyamāno varco dhā yajñavāhase ||

Be exalted, Vanaspati upon this sacred spot of earth, being measured with careful measurement, and bestow food upon the offerer of the sacrifice.

युवा सुवासाः परिवीत आगात्स उ श्रेयान्भवति जायमानः । तं धीरासः कवय उन्नयन्ति स्वाध्यो मनसा देवयन्तः ॥

yuvā suvāsāḥ parivīta āgātsa u śreyānbhavati jāyamānaḥ | taṃ dhīrāsaḥ kavaya unnayanti svādhyo manasā devayantaḥ ||

Well clad and hung with wreaths comes the youthful (pillar); most excellent it is as soon as genitive rated; steadfast and wise venerators of the gods, meditating piously in thei rminds, raise it up.

जातो जायते सुदिनत्वे अह्नां समर्य आ विदथे वर्धमानः । पुनन्ति धीरा अपसो मनीषा देवया विप्र उदियर्ति वाचम् ॥

jāto jāyate sudinatve ahnāṃ samarya ā vidathe vardhamānaḥ | punanti dhīrā apaso manīṣā devayā vipra udiyarti vācam ||

Born (in the forest), and beautified in the sacrifice celebrated by men, it is (again) engendered for the sanctification of the days (of sacred rites); steadfast, active and intelligent (priests) consecrate it with intelligence, and the devout worshipper recites its praise.

यान्वो नरो देवयन्तो निमिम्युर्वनस्पते स्वधितिर्वा ततक्ष । ते देवासः स्वरवस्तस्थिवांसः प्रजावदस्मे दिधिषन्तु रत्नम् ॥

yānvo naro devayanto nimimyurvanaspate svadhitirvā tatakṣa | te devāsaḥ svaravastasthivāṃsaḥ prajāvadasme didhiṣantu ratnam ||

May those (posts) which devout men have cut down, or which, Vanaspati, the axe has trimmed, may they standing resplendent with all their parts (entire) bestow upon us wealth with progeny.

ये वृक्णासो अधि क्षमि निमितासो यतस्रुचः । ते नो व्यन्तु वार्यं देवत्रा क्षेत्रसाधसः ॥

ye vṛkṇāso adhi kṣami nimitāso yatasrucaḥ | te no vyantu vāryaṃ devatrā kṣetrasādhasaḥ ||

May those posts which have been cut down upon the earth, and which have been fabricated by the priests, those which are the accomplishers of the sacrifice, convey our acceptable (offering) to the gods.

आदित्या रुद्रा वसवः सुनीथा द्यावाक्षामा पृथिवी अन्तरिक्षम् । सजोषसो यज्ञमवन्तु देवा ऊर्ध्वं कृण्वन्त्वध्वरस्य केतुम् ॥

ādityā rudrā vasavaḥ sunīthā dyāvākṣāmā pṛthivī antarikṣam | sajoṣaso yajñamavantu devā ūrdhvaṃ kṛṇvantvadhvarasya ketum ||

May the leaders of the rite, the divine Ādityas, Rudras, Vasus, Heaven and Earth, the Earth, the firmament, well plural ased, protect our sacrifice; let them raise aloft the standard of the ceremony.

हंसा इव श्रेणिशो यतानाः शुक्रा वसानाः स्वरवो न आगुः । उन्नीयमानाः कविभिः पुरस्ताद्देवा देवानामपि यन्ति पाथः ॥

haṃsā iva śreṇiśo yatānāḥ śukrā vasānāḥ svaravo na āguḥ | unnīyamānāḥ kavibhiḥ purastāddevā devānāmapi yanti pāthaḥ ||

Arrayed in bright (garments), entire (in their parts), these pillars ranging in rows like swans, have come to us erected by pious sages on the east( of the fire); they proceed resplendent on the path of the gods.

शृङ्गाणीवेच्छृङ्गिणां सं ददृश्रे चषालवन्तः स्वरवः पृथिव्याम् । वाघद्भिर्वा विहवे श्रोषमाणा अस्माँ अवन्तु पृतनाज्येषु ॥

śṛṅgāṇīvecchṛṅgiṇāṃ saṃ dadṛśre caṣālavantaḥ svaravaḥ pṛthivyām | vāghadbhirvā vihave śroṣamāṇā asmā~ avantu pṛtanājyeṣu ||

Entire in all parts and girded with rings, they appear upon the earth like the horns of horned cattle; hearing (their praises) by the priests; may they protect us in battles.

वनस्पते शतवल्शो वि रोह सहस्रवल्शा वि वयं रुहेम । यं त्वामयं स्वधितिस्तेजमानः प्रणिनाय महते सौभगाय ॥

vanaspate śatavalśo vi roha sahasravalśā vi vayaṃ ruhema | yaṃ tvāmayaṃ svadhitistejamānaḥ praṇināya mahate saubhagāya ||

Vanaspati, mount upwith a hundred branches, that we may mount with a thousand, you whom the sharpened hatchet has brought for great auspiciousness.
