आ ते पितर्मरुतां सुम्नमेतु मा नः सूर्यस्य संदृशो युयोथाः । अभि नो वीरो अर्वति क्षमेत प्र जायेमहि रुद्र प्रजाभिः ॥

ā te pitarmarutāṃ sumnametu mā naḥ sūryasya saṃdṛśo yuyothāḥ | abhi no vīro arvati kṣameta pra jāyemahi rudra prajābhiḥ ||

Father of the Maruts

त्वादत्तेभी रुद्र शंतमेभिः शतं हिमा अशीय भेषजेभिः । व्यस्मद्द्वेषो वितरं व्यंहो व्यमीवाश्चातयस्वा विषूचीः ॥

tvādattebhī rudra śaṃtamebhiḥ śataṃ himā aśīya bheṣajebhiḥ | vyasmaddveṣo vitaraṃ vyaṃho vyamīvāścātayasvā viṣūcīḥ ||

Nourished by the curative vegetables which are bestowed by you, may I live a hundred winters; extirpate mine enemies, my exceeding sin, and my manifold infirmities.

श्रेष्ठो जातस्य रुद्र श्रियासि तवस्तमस्तवसां वज्रबाहो । पर्षि णः पारमंहसः स्वस्ति विश्वा अभीती रपसो युयोधि ॥

śreṣṭho jātasya rudra śriyāsi tavastamastavasāṃ vajrabāho | parṣi ṇaḥ pāramaṃhasaḥ svasti viśvā abhītī rapaso yuyodhi ||

You, Rudra, are the chief of beings in glory; you, wielder of the thunderbolt, are the might of themighty; do you waft us in safety over (the ocean) of sin; repel all the assaults of iniquity.

मा त्वा रुद्र चुक्रुधामा नमोभिर्मा दुःष्टुती वृषभ मा सहूती । उन्नो वीराँ अर्पय भेषजेभिर्भिषक्तमं त्वा भिषजां शृणोमि ॥

mā tvā rudra cukrudhāmā namobhirmā duḥṣṭutī vṛṣabha mā sahūtī | unno vīrā~ arpaya bheṣajebhirbhiṣaktamaṃ tvā bhiṣajāṃ śṛṇomi ||

Let us not provoke you, Rudra, to wrath by our (imperfect) adorations; nor, showerer (of benefits), by our unworthy praise, nor by our invocation (of other deities); invigorate our sons by your medicinal plural nts, for I hear that you are a chief physician amongst physicians.

हवीमभिर्हवते यो हविर्भिरव स्तोमेभी रुद्रं दिषीय । ऋदूदरः सुहवो मा नो अस्यै बभ्रुः सुशिप्रो रीरधन्मनायै ॥

havīmabhirhavate yo havirbhirava stomebhī rudraṃ diṣīya | ṛdūdaraḥ suhavo mā no asyai babhruḥ suśipro rīradhanmanāyai ||

May I pacify by my praises that Rudra, who is worshipped with invocations and oblations; and never may he who is soft-bellied, of a tawny hue, and handsome chin; who is reverently invoked; subject us to that malevolent disposition (that purposes our destruction).

उन्मा ममन्द वृषभो मरुत्वान्त्वक्षीयसा वयसा नाधमानम् । घृणीव च्छायामरपा अशीया विवासेयं रुद्रस्य सुम्नम् ॥

unmā mamanda vṛṣabho marutvāntvakṣīyasā vayasā nādhamānam | ghṛṇīva cchāyāmarapā aśīyā vivāseyaṃ rudrasya sumnam ||

May the showerer of benefits, the lord of the Maruts, gratify me his suppliant with invogorating food; may I, free from sin, so propitiate Rudra, that I may attain to his felicity, as a man, distressed by heat, (finds relief) in the shade.

क्व स्य ते रुद्र मृऴयाकुर्हस्तो यो अस्ति भेषजो जलाषः । अपभर्ता रपसो दैव्यस्याभी नु मा वृषभ चक्षमीथाः ॥

kva sya te rudra mṛḻayākurhasto yo asti bheṣajo jalāṣaḥ | apabhartā rapaso daivyasyābhī nu mā vṛṣabha cakṣamīthāḥ ||

Where, Rudra, is your joy-dispending hand, which is the healer and delighter (of all); showerer (of benefits), who are the dispeller of sins of the gods, quickly have compassion upon me.

प्र बभ्रवे वृषभाय श्वितीचे महो महीं सुष्टुतिमीरयामि । नमस्या कल्मलीकिनं नमोभिर्गृणीमसि त्वेषं रुद्रस्य नाम ॥

pra babhrave vṛṣabhāya śvitīce maho mahīṃ suṣṭutimīrayāmi | namasyā kalmalīkinaṃ namobhirgṛṇīmasi tveṣaṃ rudrasya nāma ||

I address infinite and earnest praise to the showerer (of benefits), the cherisher (of all), the white-complexioned; adore the consumer (of sin), with prostrations; we glorify the illustrious name of Rudra.

स्थिरेभिरङ्गैः पुरुरूप उग्रो बभ्रुः शुक्रेभिः पिपिशे हिरण्यैः । ईशानादस्य भुवनस्य भूरेर्न वा उ योषद्रुद्रादसुर्यम् ॥

sthirebhiraṅgaiḥ pururūpa ugro babhruḥ śukrebhiḥ pipiśe hiraṇyaiḥ | īśānādasya bhuvanasya bhūrerna vā u yoṣadrudrādasuryam ||

(Firm) with strong limbs, assuming many forms fierce, and tawny-coloured, he shines with brilliant golden ornaments; vigour is inseparable from Rudra, the supreme ruler and lord of this world.

अर्हन्बिभर्षि सायकानि धन्वार्हन्निष्कं यजतं विश्वरूपम् । अर्हन्निदं दयसे विश्वमभ्वं न वा ओजीयो रुद्र त्वदस्ति ॥

arhanbibharṣi sāyakāni dhanvārhanniṣkaṃ yajataṃ viśvarūpam | arhannidaṃ dayase viśvamabhvaṃ na vā ojīyo rudra tvadasti ||

Worthy (of reverence), you bear arrows and a bow; worthy (of praise), you wear an adorable and omniform necklace; worthy (of adoration), you preseve all this vast universe; there is no one more powerful than you.

स्तुहि श्रुतं गर्तसदं युवानं मृगं न भीममुपहत्नुमुग्रम् । मृऴा जरित्रे रुद्र स्तवानोऽन्यं ते अस्मन्नि वपन्तु सेनाः ॥

stuhi śrutaṃ gartasadaṃ yuvānaṃ mṛgaṃ na bhīmamupahatnumugram | mṛḻā jaritre rudra stavāno'nyaṃ te asmanni vapantu senāḥ ||

Glorify the renowned Rudra, riding in his car, ever youthful, destructive, fierce like a formidable wild beast; Rudra, propitiated by praise, grant happiness to him who praises (you), and let your hosts destroy him who is our adversary.

कुमारश्चित्पितरं वन्दमानं प्रति नानाम रुद्रोपयन्तम् । भूरेर्दातारं सत्पतिं गृणीषे स्तुतस्त्वं भेषजा रास्यस्मे ॥

kumāraścitpitaraṃ vandamānaṃ prati nānāma rudropayantam | bhūrerdātāraṃ satpatiṃ gṛṇīṣe stutastvaṃ bheṣajā rāsyasme ||

I bow, Rudra, to you, approaching (our rite), as a boy to his father when pronouncing a blessing upon him; I glorify you, the giver of much (wealth), the protector of the virtuous; do you, thus glorified, bestow healing herbs upon me.

या वो भेषजा मरुतः शुचीनि या शंतमा वृषणो या मयोभु । यानि मनुरवृणीता पिता नस्ता शं च योश्च रुद्रस्य वश्मि ॥

yā vo bheṣajā marutaḥ śucīni yā śaṃtamā vṛṣaṇo yā mayobhu | yāni manuravṛṇītā pitā nastā śaṃ ca yośca rudrasya vaśmi ||

Maruts, I solicit of you those medicaments which are pure; those, showerers (of benefits), which give great plural asure; those which fonfer felicity; those which (our) sire, Manu, selected; and those (medicaments) of Rudra which are the alleviation (of disease), and defence (against danger).

परि णो हेती रुद्रस्य वृज्याः परि त्वेषस्य दुर्मतिर्मही गात् । अव स्थिरा मघवद्भ्यस्तनुष्व मीढ्वस्तोकाय तनयाय मृऴ ॥

pari ṇo hetī rudrasya vṛjyāḥ pari tveṣasya durmatirmahī gāt | ava sthirā maghavadbhyastanuṣva mīḍhvastokāya tanayāya mṛḻa ||

May the javelin of Rudra avoid us; may the great displeasure of the radiant deity pass away (from us); showerer of benefits, turn away your strong (bow) from the wealthy (offerers of oblations), and bestow happiness upon (our) sons and grandsons.

एवा बभ्रो वृषभ चेकितान यथा देव न हृणीषे न हंसि । हवनश्रुन्नो रुद्रेह बोधि बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ॥

evā babhro vṛṣabha cekitāna yathā deva na hṛṇīṣe na haṃsi | havanaśrunno rudreha bodhi bṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ ||

Cherisher of the world, showerer (of benefits), omniscient and divine (Rudra), hearer of our invocation, so consider us on this occasion, that you may not be irate, nor slay us; but that, blessed with excellent descendants, we may worthily glorify you at this sacrifice.
