[rv-2-16] • 9 श्लोकाः

प्र वः सतां ज्येष्ठतमाय सुष्टुतिमग्नाविव समिधाने हविर्भरे । इन्द्रमजुर्यं जरयन्तमुक्षितं सनाद्युवानमवसे हवामहे ॥

pra vaḥ satāṃ jyeṣṭhatamāya suṣṭutimagnāviva samidhāne havirbhare | indramajuryaṃ jarayantamukṣitaṃ sanādyuvānamavase havāmahe ||

I bear the libation for you to the best of the holy (gods, to be poured) on the kindled fire, (and I offer to him fitting praise); we invoke for (our) protection the ever-youthful Indra, the undecaying, the causer of decay, sprinkled (with the Soma).

यस्मादिन्द्राद्बृहतः किं चनेमृते विश्वान्यस्मिन्त्सम्भृताधि वीर्या । जठरे सोमं तन्वी सहो महो हस्ते वज्रं भरति शीर्षणि क्रतुम् ॥

yasmādindrādbṛhataḥ kiṃ canemṛte viśvānyasmintsambhṛtādhi vīryā | jaṭhare somaṃ tanvī saho maho haste vajraṃ bharati śīrṣaṇi kratum ||

For without that mighty Indra, this (world) were nothing; in him all powers whatever are aggregated; he receives the Soma into his stomach, and in his body (exhibits) strength and energy; he bears the thunderbolt in his hand, and wisdom in his head.

न क्षोणीभ्यां परिभ्वे त इन्द्रियं न समुद्रैः पर्वतैरिन्द्र ते रथः । न ते वज्रमन्वश्नोति कश्चन यदाशुभिः पतसि योजना पुरु ॥

na kṣoṇībhyāṃ paribhve ta indriyaṃ na samudraiḥ parvatairindra te rathaḥ | na te vajramanvaśnoti kaścana yadāśubhiḥ patasi yojanā puru ||

Your might, Indra, is not to be overcome by (that of) heaven and earth; nor is your chariot (to be stopped) by oceans or by mountains; no one can escape from your thunderbolt, when you traverse many leagues with rapid (horses).

विश्वे ह्यस्मै यजताय धृष्णवे क्रतुं भरन्ति वृषभाय सश्चते । वृषा यजस्व हविषा विदुष्टरः पिबेन्द्र सोमं वृषभेण भानुना ॥

viśve hyasmai yajatāya dhṛṣṇave kratuṃ bharanti vṛṣabhāya saścate | vṛṣā yajasva haviṣā viduṣṭaraḥ pibendra somaṃ vṛṣabheṇa bhānunā ||

All men offer worship to that adorable, powerful, and munificent (Indra), who is associated (with praise); therefore, (do you), who are liberal and most wise, worship him with oblations; and drink, Indra, the Soma, together with the Sun, the showerer (of benefits).

वृष्णः कोशः पवते मध्व ऊर्मिर्वृषभान्नाय वृषभाय पातवे । वृषणाध्वर्यू वृषभासो अद्रयो वृषणं सोमं वृषभाय सुष्वति ॥

vṛṣṇaḥ kośaḥ pavate madhva ūrmirvṛṣabhānnāya vṛṣabhāya pātave | vṛṣaṇādhvaryū vṛṣabhāso adrayo vṛṣaṇaṃ somaṃ vṛṣabhāya suṣvati ||

The juice of the gratifying and exhilarating (Soma), the exciter (of) those who drink it, flows to the showerer (of benefits), the dispenser of food, for his beverage; the two priests, the sprinklers of the oblation; and the stones (that express the Soma), offer to the best (of the deities), the Soma, the shedder (of blessings).

वृषा ते वज्र उत ते वृषा रथो वृषणा हरी वृषभाण्यायुधा । वृष्णो मदस्य वृषभ त्वमीशिष इन्द्र सोमस्य वृषभस्य तृप्णुहि ॥

vṛṣā te vajra uta te vṛṣā ratho vṛṣaṇā harī vṛṣabhāṇyāyudhā | vṛṣṇo madasya vṛṣabha tvamīśiṣa indra somasya vṛṣabhasya tṛpṇuhi ||

Your thunderbolt, Indra, is the rainer (of bounties); your chariot, the showerer (of blessings); your two horses, the shedders (of desires); your weapons the diffusers (of wishes); you reign, showerer (of benefits), over the inebriating Soma, the sprinkler (of delight); satiate yourself, Indra, with the good-diffusing Soma.

प्र ते नावं न समने वचस्युवं ब्रह्मणा यामि सवनेषु दाधृषिः । कुविन्नो अस्य वचसो निबोधिषदिन्द्रमुत्सं न वसुनः सिचामहे ॥

pra te nāvaṃ na samane vacasyuvaṃ brahmaṇā yāmi savaneṣu dādhṛṣiḥ | kuvinno asya vacaso nibodhiṣadindramutsaṃ na vasunaḥ sicāmahe ||

Victorious in battle, (through) your (favour) I approach you, who are gratified by praise, in sacred rites with prayer, as a boat (to bear me over misfortune); may Indra listen attentively to these our words; we pour out libations to Indra, (who is a receptacle) of treasure, as a well (is of water).

पुरा सम्बाधादभ्या ववृत्स्व नो धेनुर्न वत्सं यवसस्य पिप्युषी । सकृत्सु ते सुमतिभिः शतक्रतो सं पत्नीभिर्न वृषणो नसीमहि ॥

purā sambādhādabhyā vavṛtsva no dhenurna vatsaṃ yavasasya pipyuṣī | sakṛtsu te sumatibhiḥ śatakrato saṃ patnībhirna vṛṣaṇo nasīmahi ||

Conduct us beforehand away from evil, as a cow grazing in a meadow leads her calf (out of peril); may we, Śatakratu, envelop you, if but once, with acceptable praises, as youthful husbands (are embraced) by their wives.

नूनं सा ते प्रति वरं जरित्रे दुहीयदिन्द्र दक्षिणा मघोनी । शिक्षा स्तोतृभ्यो माति धग्भगो नो बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ॥

nūnaṃ sā te prati varaṃ jaritre duhīyadindra dakṣiṇā maghonī | śikṣā stotṛbhyo māti dhagbhago no bṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ ||

That opulent donation which proceeds, Indra, from you, assuredly bestows upon him who praises you, the boon (that he desires); grant (it) to (us) your adorers; do not you, who are the object of adoration, disregard our prayers; so that, blessed with worthy descendants, we may glorify you at this sacrifice.
