[rv-2-10] • 6 श्लोकाः

जोहूत्रो अग्निः प्रथमः पितेवेऴस्पदे मनुषा यत्समिद्धः । श्रियं वसानो अमृतो विचेता मर्मृजेन्यः श्रवस्यः स वाजी ॥

johūtro agniḥ prathamaḥ piteveḻaspade manuṣā yatsamiddhaḥ | śriyaṃ vasāno amṛto vicetā marmṛjenyaḥ śravasyaḥ sa vājī ||

The adorable Agni, the first (of the gods) and their nourisher when kindled by man upon the altar; he who is clothed in radiance, is immortal, discriminating, food-bestowing, powerful; he is to be worshipped.

श्रूया अग्निश्चित्रभानुर्हवं मे विश्वाभिर्गीर्भिरमृतो विचेताः । श्यावा रथं वहतो रोहिता वोतारुषाह चक्रे विभृत्रः ॥

śrūyā agniścitrabhānurhavaṃ me viśvābhirgīrbhiramṛto vicetāḥ | śyāvā rathaṃ vahato rohitā votāruṣāha cakre vibhṛtraḥ ||

May Agni, who is immortal, of manifold wisdom, and wonderful splendour, hear my invocation, (preferred) with all laudations; tawny, or red, or purple horses draw his car; he has been borne in various directions.

उत्तानायामजनयन्त्सुषूतं भुवदग्निः पुरुपेशासु गर्भः । शिरिणायां चिदक्तुना महोभिरपरीवृतो वसति प्रचेताः ॥

uttānāyāmajanayantsuṣūtaṃ bhuvadagniḥ purupeśāsu garbhaḥ | śiriṇāyāṃ cidaktunā mahobhiraparīvṛto vasati pracetāḥ ||

They have genitive rated (Agni) when soundly sleeping on his upturned (couch); that Agni who is an embryo in many (vegetable) forms, and who, (rendered manifest) by the oblations, abides conscious in the night, unenveloped by darkness.

जिघर्म्यग्निं हविषा घृतेन प्रतिक्षियन्तं भुवनानि विश्वा । पृथुं तिरश्चा वयसा बृहन्तं व्यचिष्ठमन्नै रभसं दृशानम् ॥

jigharmyagniṃ haviṣā ghṛtena pratikṣiyantaṃ bhuvanāni viśvā | pṛthuṃ tiraścā vayasā bṛhantaṃ vyaciṣṭhamannai rabhasaṃ dṛśānam ||

I offer oblations with butter to Agni, who spreads through all regions, vast, expanding, with all-comprehending form, nourished (with sacrificial) food, powerful, conspicuous.

आ विश्वतः प्रत्यञ्चं जिघर्म्यरक्षसा मनसा तज्जुषेत । मर्यश्रीः स्पृहयद्वर्णो अग्निर्नाभिमृशे तन्वा जर्भुराणः ॥

ā viśvataḥ pratyañcaṃ jigharmyarakṣasā manasā tajjuṣeta | maryaśrīḥ spṛhayadvarṇo agnirnābhimṛśe tanvā jarbhurāṇaḥ ||

I offer oblations to Agni, who is present at all (sacrifices); may he accept (them), offered with an unhesitating mind, (to him) who is the refuge of man, endowed with any form that may be desired, blazing with a radiance (that it is) not (possible) to endure.

ज्ञेया भागं सहसानो वरेण त्वादूतासो मनुवद्वदेम । अनूनमग्निं जुह्वा वचस्या मधुपृचं धनसा जोहवीमि ॥

jñeyā bhāgaṃ sahasāno vareṇa tvādūtāso manuvadvadema | anūnamagniṃ juhvā vacasyā madhupṛcaṃ dhanasā johavīmi ||

Overpowering (your foes) with lustre, may you recognize your portion; may we, having you for our messenger, recite (praise) like Manu; desiring wealth, I offer oblation with the sacrificial ladle and with praises, to that entire Agni, who rewards (the worshipper) with the sweet (fruit) of the sacrifice.
