[rv-2-11] • 21 श्लोकाः

श्रुधी हवमिन्द्र मा रिषण्यः स्याम ते दावने वसूनाम् । इमा हि त्वामूर्जो वर्धयन्ति वसूयवः सिन्धवो न क्षरन्तः ॥

śrudhī havamindra mā riṣaṇyaḥ syāma te dāvane vasūnām | imā hi tvāmūrjo vardhayanti vasūyavaḥ sindhavo na kṣarantaḥ ||

Indra, hear (my) invocation; disregard it not; may we be (thought worthy) of the gift of your treasures; these oblations, designed to obtain wealth, flowing (abundantly) like rivers, bring to you augmented vigour.

सृजो महीरिन्द्र या अपिन्वः परिष्ठिता अहिना शूर पूर्वीः । अमर्त्यं चिद्दासं मन्यमानमवाभिनदुक्थैर्वावृधानः ॥

sṛjo mahīrindra yā apinvaḥ pariṣṭhitā ahinā śūra pūrvīḥ | amartyaṃ ciddāsaṃ manyamānamavābhinadukthairvāvṛdhānaḥ ||

Indra, hero, you have set free the copious (waters) which were formerly arrested by Ahi, and which you have distributed; invogorated by hymns, you have cast down headlong the slave, conceiting himself immortal.

उक्थेष्विन्नु शूर येषु चाकन्त्स्तोमेष्विन्द्र रुद्रियेषु च । तुभ्येदेता यासु मन्दसानः प्र वायवे सिस्रते न शुभ्राः ॥

uktheṣvinnu śūra yeṣu cākantstomeṣvindra rudriyeṣu ca | tubhyedetā yāsu mandasānaḥ pra vāyave sisrate na śubhrāḥ ||

Indra, hero, these brilliant (laudations), in (the form of) hymns, in which you delight, and in (that of) the praises uttered by the worshipper by which you are gratified, are addressed to you, to bring you (to your sacrifice).

शुभ्रं नु ते शुष्मं वर्धयन्तः शुभ्रं वज्रं बाह्वोर्दधानाः । शुभ्रस्त्वमिन्द्र वावृधानो अस्मे दासीर्विशः सूर्येण सह्याः ॥

śubhraṃ nu te śuṣmaṃ vardhayantaḥ śubhraṃ vajraṃ bāhvordadhānāḥ | śubhrastvamindra vāvṛdhāno asme dāsīrviśaḥ sūryeṇa sahyāḥ ||

We are invigorating your brilliant strength (by our praises), and plural cing the thunderbolt in your hands; do you, Indra, radiant, increasing in strenght, and (encouraged) by the sun, overpower, for our (good), the servile people.

गुहा हितं गुह्यं गूऴ्हमप्स्वपीवृतं मायिनं क्षियन्तम् । उतो अपो द्यां तस्तभ्वांसमहन्नहिं शूर वीर्येण ॥

guhā hitaṃ guhyaṃ gūḻhamapsvapīvṛtaṃ māyinaṃ kṣiyantam | uto apo dyāṃ tastabhvāṃsamahannahiṃ śūra vīryeṇa ||

Indra, hero, you have slain by your prow the glorified Ahi, hidden privy in a cave, lurking in concealment, covered by the waters in which he was abiding, and arresting the rains in the sky.

स्तवा नु त इन्द्र पूर्व्या महान्युत स्तवाम नूतना कृतानि । स्तवा वज्रं बाह्वोरुशन्तं स्तवा हरी सूर्यस्य केतू ॥

stavā nu ta indra pūrvyā mahānyuta stavāma nūtanā kṛtāni | stavā vajraṃ bāhvoruśantaṃ stavā harī sūryasya ketū ||

We glorify, Indra, your mighty (deeds) of old; we glorify your (more) recent exploits; we praise the thunderbolt shining in your arms, and we celebrate the horses, the signs of (Indra as) the sun.

हरी नु त इन्द्र वाजयन्ता घृतश्चुतं स्वारमस्वार्ष्टाम् । वि समना भूमिरप्रथिष्टारंस्त पर्वतश्चित्सरिष्यन् ॥

harī nu ta indra vājayantā ghṛtaścutaṃ svāramasvārṣṭām | vi samanā bhūmiraprathiṣṭāraṃsta parvataścitsariṣyan ||

Your swift horses, Indra, have uttered a loud sound, announcing rain; the level earth anxiously expects its fall, as the gathering cloud has passed.

नि पर्वतः साद्यप्रयुच्छन्त्सं मातृभिर्वावशानो अक्रान् । दूरे पारे वाणीं वर्धयन्त इन्द्रेषितां धमनिं पप्रथन्नि ॥

ni parvataḥ sādyaprayucchantsaṃ mātṛbhirvāvaśāno akrān | dūre pāre vāṇīṃ vardhayanta indreṣitāṃ dhamaniṃ paprathanni ||

The cloud, not heedless (of its office), is suspended (in the sky); resonant with maternal (waters), it has spread about; (the winds), augmenting the sound in the distant horizon; have promulgated the voice uttered by Indra.

इन्द्रो महां सिन्धुमाशयानं मायाविनं वृत्रमस्फुरन्निः । अरेजेतां रोदसी भियाने कनिक्रदतो वृष्णो अस्य वज्रात् ॥

indro mahāṃ sindhumāśayānaṃ māyāvinaṃ vṛtramasphuranniḥ | arejetāṃ rodasī bhiyāne kanikradato vṛṣṇo asya vajrāt ||

The mighty Indra has shattered the guileful Vṛtra reposing in the cloud;heaven and earth shook, alarmed at the thundering bolt of the showerer.

अरोरवीद्वृष्णो अस्य वज्रोऽमानुषं यन्मानुषो निजूर्वात् । नि मायिनो दानवस्य माया अपादयत्पपिवान्त्सुतस्य ॥

aroravīdvṛṣṇo asya vajro'mānuṣaṃ yanmānuṣo nijūrvāt | ni māyino dānavasya māyā apādayatpapivāntsutasya ||

The thunderbolt of the showerer roared aloud, when (Indra), the friend of man, sought to slay the enemy of mankind. Drinking the Soma, he (Indra), baffled the devices of the guileful Dānava.

पिबापिबेदिन्द्र शूर सोमं मन्दन्तु त्वा मन्दिनः सुतासः । पृणन्तस्ते कुक्षी वर्धयन्त्वित्था सुतः पौर इन्द्रमाव ॥

pibāpibedindra śūra somaṃ mandantu tvā mandinaḥ sutāsaḥ | pṛṇantaste kukṣī vardhayantvitthā sutaḥ paura indramāva ||

Drink, hero, Indra, drink the Soma;may the exhilarating juices delight you; may they, distending your flanks, augment (your prowess), and in this manner may the replenishing effused libation satisfy Indra.

त्वे इन्द्राप्यभूम विप्रा धियं वनेम ऋतया सपन्तः । अवस्यवो धीमहि प्रशस्तिं सद्यस्ते रायो दावने स्याम ॥

tve indrāpyabhūma viprā dhiyaṃ vanema ṛtayā sapantaḥ | avasyavo dhīmahi praśastiṃ sadyaste rāyo dāvane syāma ||

May we, your pious (worshipper), abide in you; approaching you with devotion, may we enjoy (the reward of) our adoration; desirous of protection, we meditate your glorification; may we ever be (thought worthy) of the gift of your treasures.

स्याम ते त इन्द्र ये त ऊती अवस्यव ऊर्जं वर्धयन्तः । शुष्मिन्तमं यं चाकनाम देवास्मे रयिं रासि वीरवन्तम् ॥

syāma te ta indra ye ta ūtī avasyava ūrjaṃ vardhayantaḥ | śuṣmintamaṃ yaṃ cākanāma devāsme rayiṃ rāsi vīravantam ||

May we, (through) your (favour), Indra, be such as those are, who, desirous of your protection, augment (by their praises) your vigour; divine (Indra), you grant the wealth which we desire, (the source of) great power and of (numerous) progeny.

रासि क्षयं रासि मित्रमस्मे रासि शर्ध इन्द्र मारुतं नः । सजोषसो ये च मन्दसानाः प्र वायवः पान्त्यग्रणीतिम् ॥

rāsi kṣayaṃ rāsi mitramasme rāsi śardha indra mārutaṃ naḥ | sajoṣaso ye ca mandasānāḥ pra vāyavaḥ pāntyagraṇītim ||

You grant a habitation; you grant friends; you grant us, Indra, the strength of the Maruts; the winds, who, propitious and exulting, drink copiously of the first offering (of the Soma).

व्यन्त्विन्नु येषु मन्दसानस्तृपत्सोमं पाहि द्रह्यदिन्द्र । अस्मान्त्सु पृत्स्वा तरुत्रावर्धयो द्यां बृहद्भिरर्कैः ॥

vyantvinnu yeṣu mandasānastṛpatsomaṃ pāhi drahyadindra | asmāntsu pṛtsvā tarutrāvardhayo dyāṃ bṛhadbhirarkaiḥ ||

Let those in whom you are delighted repair (to the libation), and do you, Indra, confiding, drink the satiating Soma; liberator (from evil), associated with the mighty and adorable (Maruts), augment our prosperity, and (that of) heaven.

बृहन्त इन्नु ये ते तरुत्रोक्थेभिर्वा सुम्नमाविवासान् । स्तृणानासो बर्हिः पस्त्यावत्त्वोता इदिन्द्र वाजमग्मन् ॥

bṛhanta innu ye te tarutrokthebhirvā sumnamāvivāsān | stṛṇānāso barhiḥ pastyāvattvotā idindra vājamagman ||

Liberator (from evil), they who worship you, the giver of happiness, with holy hymns, quickly become great; they who strew the sacred grass (in honour of you) are protected by you, and, together with their famiies, obtain (abundant) food.

उग्रेष्विन्नु शूर मन्दसानस्त्रिकद्रुकेषु पाहि सोममिन्द्र । प्रदोधुवच्छ्मश्रुषु प्रीणानो याहि हरिभ्यां सुतस्य पीतिम् ॥

ugreṣvinnu śūra mandasānastrikadrukeṣu pāhi somamindra | pradodhuvacchmaśruṣu prīṇāno yāhi haribhyāṃ sutasya pītim ||

Indra, hero, exulting in the solemn Trikadruka rites quaff the Soma, and repeatedly shaking it from your beard, repair, well plural ased with your steeds, to the drinking of the effused libation.

धिष्वा शवः शूर येन वृत्रमवाभिनद्दानुमौर्णवाभम् । अपावृणोर्ज्योतिरार्याय नि सव्यतः सादि दस्युरिन्द्र ॥

dhiṣvā śavaḥ śūra yena vṛtramavābhinaddānumaurṇavābham | apāvṛṇorjyotirāryāya ni savyataḥ sādi dasyurindra ||

Indra, hero, keep up the strength wherewith you have crushed Vṛtra, the spider-like son of Dānu, and let open the light to the Ārya; the Dasyu has been set aside on your left hand.

सनेम ये त ऊतिभिस्तरन्तो विश्वाः स्पृध आर्येण दस्यून् । अस्मभ्यं तत्त्वाष्ट्रं विश्वरूपमरन्धयः साख्यस्य त्रिताय ॥

sanema ye ta ūtibhistaranto viśvāḥ spṛdha āryeṇa dasyūn | asmabhyaṃ tattvāṣṭraṃ viśvarūpamarandhayaḥ sākhyasya tritāya ||

Let us honour those men, who, through your protection, surpass all their rivals, as the Dasyus (are surpassed) by the Arya; this (have you wrought) for us; you have slain Viśvarūpa, the son of Tvaṣṭā, through friendship of Trita.

अस्य सुवानस्य मन्दिनस्त्रितस्य न्यर्बुदं वावृधानो अस्तः । अवर्तयत्सूर्यो न चक्रं भिनद्वलमिन्द्रो अङ्गिरस्वान् ॥

asya suvānasya mandinastritasya nyarbudaṃ vāvṛdhāno astaḥ | avartayatsūryo na cakraṃ bhinadvalamindro aṅgirasvān ||

Invigorated (by the libation) of the exulting Trita, offering you the Soma, you have annihilated Arbuda; Indra, aided by the Aṅgirasa, has whirled round his bolt, as the tun turns round his wheel, and slain Bala.

नूनं सा ते प्रति वरं जरित्रे दुहीयदिन्द्र दक्षिणा मघोनी । शिक्षा स्तोतृभ्यो माति धग्भगो नो बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ॥

nūnaṃ sā te prati varaṃ jaritre duhīyadindra dakṣiṇā maghonī | śikṣā stotṛbhyo māti dhagbhago no bṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ ||

That opulent donation, which proceeds, Indra, from you, assuredly bestows upon him who praises you the boon (which he desires); grant it to us, your prisers; do not you, who are the object of adoration, disregard (our prayer); so that, blessed with worthy descendants, we may glorify you at this sacrifice.
