[rv-10-99] • 12 श्लोकाः

कं नश्चित्रमिषण्यसि चिकित्वान्पृथुग्मानं वाश्रं वावृधध्यै । कत्तस्य दातु शवसो व्युष्टौ तक्षद्वज्रं वृत्रतुरमपिन्वत् ॥

kaṃ naścitramiṣaṇyasi cikitvānpṛthugmānaṃ vāśraṃ vāvṛdhadhyai | kattasya dātu śavaso vyuṣṭau takṣadvajraṃ vṛtraturamapinvat ||

What marvellous (wealth), comprehensive and laudable, do you, Indra, knowing (what is needed),bestow upon us for our advantage? What gift (has been made to us) upon the development of his strength? Hefabricated the Vṛtra- slaying thunderbolt, and let the waters flow.

स हि द्युता विद्युता वेति साम पृथुं योनिमसुरत्वा ससाद । स सनीऴेभिः प्रसहानो अस्य भ्रातुर्न ऋते सप्तथस्य मायाः ॥

sa hi dyutā vidyutā veti sāma pṛthuṃ yonimasuratvā sasāda | sa sanīḻebhiḥ prasahāno asya bhrāturna ṛte saptathasya māyāḥ ||

Armed with the bright lightning he goes to the (scene of) adoration; endowed with might he has seatedhimself on the spacious plural ce (of sacrifice); he (is) triumphant with his companions (the Maruts); the wiles of hisseventh brother do not (prevail) at the rite.

स वाजं यातापदुष्पदा यन्त्स्वर्षाता परि षदत्सनिष्यन् । अनर्वा यच्छतदुरस्य वेदो घ्नञ्छिश्नदेवाँ अभि वर्पसा भूत् ॥

sa vājaṃ yātāpaduṣpadā yantsvarṣātā pari ṣadatsaniṣyan | anarvā yacchatadurasya vedo ghnañchiśnadevā~ abhi varpasā bhūt ||

Going to the battle, marching with easy gait, desiring the spoil, he set himself to the acquisition of all(wealth). Invincible, destroying the phallus-worshippers, he won by his prowess whatever wealth (was concealedin the city) with the hundred gates.

स यह्व्योऽवनीर्गोष्वर्वा जुहोति प्रधन्यासु सस्रिः । अपादो यत्र युज्यासोऽरथा द्रोण्यश्वास ईरते घृतं वाः ॥

sa yahvyo'vanīrgoṣvarvā juhoti pradhanyāsu sasriḥ | apādo yatra yujyāso'rathā droṇyaśvāsa īrate ghṛtaṃ vāḥ ||

The victorious Indra, coming among the clouds, quickly moving, offers the abundant waters on the rich(plural ins) where his associates (the rivers) footless, and without conveyances, having pitchers for horses, pour outwater like ghī.

स रुद्रेभिरशस्तवार ऋभ्वा हित्वी गयमारेअवद्य आगात् । वम्रस्य मन्ये मिथुना विवव्री अन्नमभीत्यारोदयन्मुषायन् ॥

sa rudrebhiraśastavāra ṛbhvā hitvī gayamāreavadya āgāt | vamrasya manye mithunā vivavrī annamabhītyārodayanmuṣāyan ||

May he, our unsolicited benefactor, the mighty one, from whom blame is far removed, come with theRudras, having quit his dwelling. I think of the two (parents) of Vamra, who are free from fever. Having obtained(the enemy's) food, he called aloud while stealing it.

स इद्दासं तुवीरवं पतिर्दन्षऴक्षं त्रिशीर्षाणं दमन्यत् । अस्य त्रितो न्वोजसा वृधानो विपा वराहमयोअग्रया हन् ॥

sa iddāsaṃ tuvīravaṃ patirdanṣaḻakṣaṃ triśīrṣāṇaṃ damanyat | asya trito nvojasā vṛdhāno vipā varāhamayoagrayā han ||

The sovereign Indra attacking him overcame the loud-shouting, six- eyed, three-headed Dāsa, andTrita, invigorated by his strength, smote the water-laden (cloud) with his iron-tipped finger.

स द्रुह्वणे मनुष ऊर्ध्वसान आ साविषदर्शसानाय शरुम् । स नृतमो नहुषोऽस्मत्सुजातः पुरोऽभिनदर्हन्दस्युहत्ये ॥

sa druhvaṇe manuṣa ūrdhvasāna ā sāviṣadarśasānāya śarum | sa nṛtamo nahuṣo'smatsujātaḥ puro'bhinadarhandasyuhatye ||

Details:

सो अभ्रियो न यवस उदन्यन्क्षयाय गातुं विदन्नो अस्मे । उप यत्सीददिन्दुं शरीरैः श्येनोऽयोपाष्टिर्हन्ति दस्यून् ॥

so abhriyo na yavasa udanyankṣayāya gātuṃ vidanno asme | upa yatsīdadinduṃ śarīraiḥ śyeno'yopāṣṭirhanti dasyūn ||

Like the aggregated cloud desiring to pour water on the pasturage, he found the way to our dwellingwhen he approached the Soma with his limbs, like a hawk with heel of metal he smites the Dasyus.

स व्राधतः शवसानेभिरस्य कुत्साय शुष्णं कृपणे परादात् । अयं कविमनयच्छस्यमानमत्कं यो अस्य सनितोत नृणाम् ॥

sa vrādhataḥ śavasānebhirasya kutsāya śuṣṇaṃ kṛpaṇe parādāt | ayaṃ kavimanayacchasyamānamatkaṃ yo asya sanitota nṛṇām ||

Let him overthrow the mighty with powerful (weapons); he destroyed Śuṣṇa for the sake of the liberalKutsa; he humiliated Kavi, who praised him, who was the giver of form to Indra and his men.

अयं दशस्यन्नर्येभिरस्य दस्मो देवेभिर्वरुणो न मायी । अयं कनीन ऋतुपा अवेद्यमिमीताररुं यश्चतुष्पात् ॥

ayaṃ daśasyannaryebhirasya dasmo devebhirvaruṇo na māyī | ayaṃ kanīna ṛtupā avedyamimītāraruṃ yaścatuṣpāt ||

Bountiful (to his worshippers) with his (Maruts) friendly to men, wonderful with brilliancies, havingmagical power like Varuṇa, he was known as desirable, protecting the seasons, he destroyed, Araru, who wasfour-footed.

अस्य स्तोमेभिरौशिज ऋजिश्वा व्रजं दरयद्वृषभेण पिप्रोः । सुत्वा यद्यजतो दीदयद्गीः पुर इयानो अभि वर्पसा भूत् ॥

asya stomebhirauśija ṛjiśvā vrajaṃ darayadvṛṣabheṇa piproḥ | sutvā yadyajato dīdayadgīḥ pura iyāno abhi varpasā bhūt ||

Ṛjiśvā, the son of Uśija with Indra's praises shattered the cow pen of Pipru with the thunderbolt;when having expressed (the Soma), the venerable sage recited his praises, (Indra) proceeding against the cities(of the enemy) triumphed with his body.

एवा महो असुर वक्षथाय वम्रकः पड्भिरुप सर्पदिन्द्रम् । स इयानः करति स्वस्तिमस्मा इषमूर्जं सुक्षितिं विश्वमाभाः ॥

evā maho asura vakṣathāya vamrakaḥ paḍbhirupa sarpadindram | sa iyānaḥ karati svastimasmā iṣamūrjaṃ sukṣitiṃ viśvamābhāḥ ||

In this manner, O mighty (Indra), Vamraka approached Indra on foot, to bring an ample oblation. Mayhe, being approached, grant us prosperity, may he bring us food, drink, a secure dwelling and all (good things).
