वि हि सोतोरसृक्षत नेन्द्रं देवममंसत । यत्रामदद्वृषाकपिरर्यः पुष्टेषु मत्सखा विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

vi hi sotorasṛkṣata nendraṃ devamamaṃsata | yatrāmadadvṛṣākapiraryaḥ puṣṭeṣu matsakhā viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

Details:

परा हीन्द्र धावसि वृषाकपेरति व्यथिः । नो अह प्र विन्दस्यन्यत्र सोमपीतये विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

parā hīndra dhāvasi vṛṣākaperati vyathiḥ | no aha pra vindasyanyatra somapītaye viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

Indrāṇī speaks: You, Indra, much annoyed, hasten towards Vṛṣākapi; and yet you find no otherplace to drink the Soma; Indra is above all (the world).

किमयं त्वां वृषाकपिश्चकार हरितो मृगः । यस्मा इरस्यसीदु न्वर्यो वा पुष्टिमद्वसु विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

kimayaṃ tvāṃ vṛṣākapiścakāra harito mṛgaḥ | yasmā irasyasīdu nvaryo vā puṣṭimadvasu viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

What (favour) has this tawny deer Vṛṣākapi done to you that you should like a liberal (benefactor)bestow upon him wealth and nourish me; Indra is above all (the world).

यमिमं त्वं वृषाकपिं प्रियमिन्द्राभिरक्षसि । श्वा न्वस्य जम्भिषदपि कर्णे वराहयुर्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

yamimaṃ tvaṃ vṛṣākapiṃ priyamindrābhirakṣasi | śvā nvasya jambhiṣadapi karṇe varāhayurviśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

This Vṛṣākapi whom you, Indra, cherish as your dear (son)-- may the dog which chases the boar(seize) him by the ear (and) devour him; Indra is above all (the world).

प्रिया तष्टानि मे कपिर्व्यक्ता व्यदूदुषत् । शिरो न्वस्य राविषं न सुगं दुष्कृते भुवं विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

priyā taṣṭāni me kapirvyaktā vyadūduṣat | śiro nvasya rāviṣaṃ na sugaṃ duṣkṛte bhuvaṃ viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

The ape has spoiled the beloved ghī-adorned (oblations) made to me (by worshippers); let mequickly cut off his head, let me not be the giver of happiness to one who works evil; Indra is above all (the world).

न मत्स्त्री सुभसत्तरा न सुयाशुतरा भुवत् । न मत्प्रतिच्यवीयसी न सक्थ्युद्यमीयसी विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

na matstrī subhasattarā na suyāśutarā bhuvat | na matpraticyavīyasī na sakthyudyamīyasī viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

There is no woman more amiable than I am, not one who bears fairer sons than I; nor one moretractable not one more ardent; Indra is above all (the world).

उवे अम्ब सुलाभिके यथेवाङ्ग भविष्यति । भसन्मे अम्ब सक्थि मे शिरो मे वीव हृष्यति विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

uve amba sulābhike yathevāṅga bhaviṣyati | bhasanme amba sakthi me śiro me vīva hṛṣyati viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

[Vṛṣākapi speaks]: O mother, who are easy of access, it will quickly be as (you have said); may my(father) and you, mother, be united; may it delight my (father) and your head like a bird; Indra is above all (theworld).

किं सुबाहो स्वङ्गुरे पृथुष्टो पृथुजाघने । किं शूरपत्नि नस्त्वमभ्यमीषि वृषाकपिं विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

kiṃ subāho svaṅgure pṛthuṣṭo pṛthujāghane | kiṃ śūrapatni nastvamabhyamīṣi vṛṣākapiṃ viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

[Indra speaks]: You who have beautiful arms, who have beautiful fingers, long-haired, broad-hipped,why are you angry with our Vṛṣākapi, O you wife of a hero; Indra is above all (the world).

अवीरामिव मामयं शरारुरभि मन्यते । उताहमस्मि वीरिणीन्द्रपत्नी मरुत्सखा विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

avīrāmiva māmayaṃ śarārurabhi manyate | utāhamasmi vīriṇīndrapatnī marutsakhā viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

[Indrāṇī speaks]: This savage beast (Vṛṣākapi) despises me as one who has no male (protector),and yet I am the mother of male offspring, the wife of Indra, the friend of the Maruts; Indra is above all (the world).

संहोत्रं स्म पुरा नारी समनं वाव गच्छति । वेधा ऋतस्य वीरिणीन्द्रपत्नी महीयते विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

saṃhotraṃ sma purā nārī samanaṃ vāva gacchati | vedhā ṛtasya vīriṇīndrapatnī mahīyate viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

The mother who is the instrumental tutress of the ceremony, the mother of male offspring, the wife of Indra,goes first to the united sacrifice to battle, (and) is honoured (by the praisers); Indra is above all (the world).

इन्द्राणीमासु नारिषु सुभगामहमश्रवम् । नह्यस्या अपरं चन जरसा मरते पतिर्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

indrāṇīmāsu nāriṣu subhagāmahamaśravam | nahyasyā aparaṃ cana jarasā marate patirviśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

(Indra speaks]: I have heard that Indrāṇī is the most fortunate among these women, for her lordIndra, who is above all (the world), does ot die of old age like other (men).

नाहमिन्द्राणि रारण सख्युर्वृषाकपेॠते । यस्येदमप्यं हविः प्रियं देवेषु गच्छति विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

nāhamindrāṇi rāraṇa sakhyurvṛṣākapeṝte | yasyedamapyaṃ haviḥ priyaṃ deveṣu gacchati viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

I am not happy, Indrāṇi, without my friend Vṛṣākapi; whose acceptable oblation here, purified withwater, proceeds to the gods; Indra is above all (the world).

वृषाकपायि रेवति सुपुत्र आदु सुस्नुषे । घसत्त इन्द्र उक्षणः प्रियं काचित्करं हविर्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

vṛṣākapāyi revati suputra ādu susnuṣe | ghasatta indra ukṣaṇaḥ priyaṃ kācitkaraṃ havirviśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

[Vṛṣākapi speaks]: O mother of Vṛṣākapi, wealthy, possessing excellent sons, possessingexcellent daughters-in-law, let Indra eat your bulls, (give him) the beloved and most delightful ghī, Indra is aboveall (the world).

उक्ष्णो हि मे पञ्चदश साकं पचन्ति विंशतिम् । उताहमद्मि पीव इदुभा कुक्षी पृणन्ति मे विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

ukṣṇo hi me pañcadaśa sākaṃ pacanti viṃśatim | utāhamadmi pīva idubhā kukṣī pṛṇanti me viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

[Indra speaks]: The worshippers dress for me fifteen (and) twenty bulls; I eat them and (become) fat,they fill both sides of my belly; Indra is above all (the world).

वृषभो न तिग्मशृङ्गोऽन्तर्यूथेषु रोरुवत् । मन्थस्त इन्द्र शं हृदे यं ते सुनोति भावयुर्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

vṛṣabho na tigmaśṛṅgo'ntaryūtheṣu roruvat | manthasta indra śaṃ hṛde yaṃ te sunoti bhāvayurviśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

[Indrāṇī speaks]: Like a sharp-horned bull roaring among the herds, so may your libation plural aseworld).

न सेशे यस्य रम्बतेऽन्तरा सक्थ्या कपृत् । सेदीशे यस्य रोमशं निषेदुषो विजृम्भते विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

na seśe yasya rambate'ntarā sakthyā kapṛt | sedīśe yasya romaśaṃ niṣeduṣo vijṛmbhate viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

The man who is impotent begets not progeny, but he who is endowed with vigour; Indra is above all(the world).

न सेशे यस्य रोमशं निषेदुषो विजृम्भते । सेदीशे यस्य रम्बतेऽन्तरा सक्थ्या कपृद्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

na seśe yasya romaśaṃ niṣeduṣo vijṛmbhate | sedīśe yasya rambate'ntarā sakthyā kapṛdviśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

[Indra speaks]: He who is endowed with vigour begets not progeny, but he who is impotent; Indra isabove all (the world).

अयमिन्द्र वृषाकपिः परस्वन्तं हतं विदत् । असिं सूनां नवं चरुमादेधस्यान आचितं विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

ayamindra vṛṣākapiḥ parasvantaṃ hataṃ vidat | asiṃ sūnāṃ navaṃ carumādedhasyāna ācitaṃ viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

[Indrāṇī speaks]: Let this Vṛṣākapi, Indra, take a dead wild ass, (let him take) a knife (to cut it up),a fire-plural ce (to cook it), a new saucepan, and a cart full of fuel; Indra is above all (the world).

अयमेमि विचाकशद्विचिन्वन्दासमार्यम् । पिबामि पाकसुत्वनोऽभि धीरमचाकशं विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

ayamemi vicākaśadvicinvandāsamāryam | pibāmi pākasutvano'bhi dhīramacākaśaṃ viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

[Indra speaks]: Here I come to the (sacrifice) looking upon (the worshippers), distinguishing the Dāsaand the Ārya; I drink (the Soma) of the (worshipper), who effuses (the Soma) with mature (mind); I look upon theintelligent (sacrificer); Indra is above all (the world).

धन्व च यत्कृन्तत्रं च कति स्वित्ता वि योजना । नेदीयसो वृषाकपेऽस्तमेहि गृहाँ उप विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

dhanva ca yatkṛntatraṃ ca kati svittā vi yojanā | nedīyaso vṛṣākape'stamehi gṛhā~ upa viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

Go home, Vṣs.ākapi, to the halls of sacrifice (from the lurking- plural ce of the enemy), which is desertand forest (how many leagues are there from there?) and from the nearest (lurking-plural ce); Indra is above all (theworld).

पुनरेहि वृषाकपे सुविता कल्पयावहै । य एष स्वप्ननंशनोऽस्तमेषि पथा पुनर्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

punarehi vṛṣākape suvitā kalpayāvahai | ya eṣa svapnanaṃśano'stameṣi pathā punarviśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

Come back, Vṛṣākapi, that we may do what is agreeable to you; you, who are the destroyer ofsleep, come home again by the road; Indra is above all (the world).

यदुदञ्चो वृषाकपे गृहमिन्द्राजगन्तन । क्व स्य पुल्वघो मृगः कमगञ्जनयोपनो विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

yadudañco vṛṣākape gṛhamindrājagantana | kva sya pulvagho mṛgaḥ kamagañjanayopano viśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

Rise up and come home, Vṛṣākapi and Indra; where is that destructive beast, to what (region) has(that beast), the exhilarator of men, gone? Indra is above all (the world).

पर्शुर्ह नाम मानवी साकं ससूव विंशतिम् । भद्रं भल त्यस्या अभूद्यस्या उदरमामयद्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ॥

parśurha nāma mānavī sākaṃ sasūva viṃśatim | bhadraṃ bhala tyasyā abhūdyasyā udaramāmayadviśvasmādindra uttaraḥ ||

The daughter of Manu, Parśu by name, bore twenty children at once; may good fortune, O arrow ofIndra, befall her whose belly was so prolific; Indra is above all (the world).
