[rv-10-77] • 8 श्लोकाः

अभ्रप्रुषो न वाचा प्रुषा वसु हविष्मन्तो न यज्ञा विजानुषः । सुमारुतं न ब्रह्माणमर्हसे गणमस्तोष्येषां न शोभसे ॥

abhrapruṣo na vācā pruṣā vasu haviṣmanto na yajñā vijānuṣaḥ | sumārutaṃ na brahmāṇamarhase gaṇamastoṣyeṣāṃ na śobhase ||

(The Maruts), plural ased with our praise like water-drops sent down by clouds, shower wealth; they arethe genitive rators (of the world) like sacrifices abounding with oblations; I have not praised the mighty band ofMaruts (adequately) for their honour or of their glory.

श्रिये मर्यासो अञ्जीँरकृण्वत सुमारुतं न पूर्वीरति क्षपः । दिवस्पुत्रास एता न येतिर आदित्यासस्ते अक्रा न वावृधुः ॥

śriye maryāso añjī~rakṛṇvata sumārutaṃ na pūrvīrati kṣapaḥ | divasputrāsa etā na yetira ādityāsaste akrā na vāvṛdhuḥ ||

The destructive (Maruts) made ornaments for their decoration many hostile hosts cannot overcomethe band of Maruts; the moving sons of heaven do not issue forth, the swift-going sons of Aditi do not increase (inglory).

प्र ये दिवः पृथिव्या न बर्हणा त्मना रिरिच्रे अभ्रान्न सूर्यः । पाजस्वन्तो न वीराः पनस्यवो रिशादसो न मर्या अभिद्यवः ॥

pra ye divaḥ pṛthivyā na barhaṇā tmanā riricre abhrānna sūryaḥ | pājasvanto na vīrāḥ panasyavo riśādaso na maryā abhidyavaḥ ||

(The Maruts), who through the might of heaven and earth have emerged from their own person ns asthe sun emerges from the cloud, (are) desirous of praise like powerful heroes, and radiant like men whooverpower their enemies.

युष्माकं बुध्ने अपां न यामनि विथुर्यति न मही श्रथर्यति । विश्वप्सुर्यज्ञो अर्वागयं सु वः प्रयस्वन्तो न सत्राच आ गत ॥

yuṣmākaṃ budhne apāṃ na yāmani vithuryati na mahī śratharyati | viśvapsuryajño arvāgayaṃ su vaḥ prayasvanto na satrāca ā gata ||

In your collision, as in the transit of waters, the earth is not shaken, is not shattered; this manifoldsacrifice comes towards you; approach united as if laden with food.

यूयं धूर्षु प्रयुजो न रश्मिभिर्ज्योतिष्मन्तो न भासा व्युष्टिषु । श्येनासो न स्वयशसो रिशादसः प्रवासो न प्रसितासः परिप्रुषः ॥

yūyaṃ dhūrṣu prayujo na raśmibhirjyotiṣmanto na bhāsā vyuṣṭiṣu | śyenāso na svayaśaso riśādasaḥ pravāso na prasitāsaḥ paripruṣaḥ ||

You (move along) like horses harnessed to the chariot-poles with reins; at break of day you (areendowed) with radiance like the luminaries (of heaven); you are like hawks, like the destroyers of foes, desirousof renown; you cover the ground like travellers, you move everywhere.

प्र यद्वहध्वे मरुतः पराकाद्यूयं महः संवरणस्य वस्वः । विदानासो वसवो राध्यस्याराच्चिद्द्वेषः सनुतर्युयोत ॥

pra yadvahadhve marutaḥ parākādyūyaṃ mahaḥ saṃvaraṇasya vasvaḥ | vidānāso vasavo rādhyasyārācciddveṣaḥ sanutaryuyota ||

When, Maruts, you come from a distance, then, Vasus, distributors of abundant, desirable, covetedwealth, do you scatter afar our concealed foes.

य उदृचि यज्ञे अध्वरेष्ठा मरुद्भ्यो न मानुषो ददाशत् । रेवत्स वयो दधते सुवीरं स देवानामपि गोपीथे अस्तु ॥

ya udṛci yajñe adhvareṣṭhā marudbhyo na mānuṣo dadāśat | revatsa vayo dadhate suvīraṃ sa devānāmapi gopīthe astu ||

The worshipper who engaged in worship at the sacrifice, accompanied with praise, presentsdonations (to the priests) as if to the Maruts, he enjoys food with riches, and male progeny; may he be present atthe god's soma-drinking.

ते हि यज्ञेषु यज्ञियास ऊमा आदित्येन नाम्ना शम्भविष्ठाः । ते नोऽवन्तु रथतूर्मनीषां महश्च यामन्नध्वरे चकानाः ॥

te hi yajñeṣu yajñiyāsa ūmā ādityena nāmnā śambhaviṣṭhāḥ | te no'vantu rathatūrmanīṣāṃ mahaśca yāmannadhvare cakānāḥ ||

May those protecting deities who are entitled to be worshipped at sacrifices, who under the name ofĀdityas are the bestowers of felicity, may they (the Maruts) accelerating their chariots, and desirous of theample (oblation), upon their arrival at the sacrificed protect our praise.
