[rv-10-72] • 9 श्लोकाः

देवानां नु वयं जाना प्र वोचाम विपन्यया । उक्थेषु शस्यमानेषु यः पश्यादुत्तरे युगे ॥

devānāṃ nu vayaṃ jānā pra vocāma vipanyayā | uktheṣu śasyamāneṣu yaḥ paśyāduttare yuge ||

Let us proclaim with a clear voice the genitive rations of the gods (the divine company), who, when theirpraises are recited, look (favourably on the worshipper) in this latter age.

ब्रह्मणस्पतिरेता सं कर्मार इवाधमत् । देवानां पूर्व्ये युगेऽसतः सदजायत ॥

brahmaṇaspatiretā saṃ karmāra ivādhamat | devānāṃ pūrvye yuge'sataḥ sadajāyata ||

Brahmaṇaspati filled these (genitive rations of the gods) with breath as a blacksmith (his bellows); in thefirst age of the gods the existent was born of the non-existent.

देवानां युगे प्रथमेऽसतः सदजायत । तदाशा अन्वजायन्त तदुत्तानपदस्परि ॥

devānāṃ yuge prathame'sataḥ sadajāyata | tadāśā anvajāyanta taduttānapadaspari ||

In the firsst age of the gods the existent was born of the non- existent; after that the quarters (of thehorizon) were born, and after them the upward-growing (trees).

भूर्जज्ञ उत्तानपदो भुव आशा अजायन्त । अदितेर्दक्षो अजायत दक्षाद्वदितिः परि ॥

bhūrjajña uttānapado bhuva āśā ajāyanta | aditerdakṣo ajāyata dakṣādvaditiḥ pari ||

The earth was born from the upward-growing (tree), the quarters were born from the earth; Dakṣawas born from Aditi, and afterwards Aditi from Dakṣa.

अदितिर्ह्यजनिष्ट दक्ष या दुहिता तव । तां देवा अन्वजायन्त भद्रा अमृतबन्धवः ॥

aditirhyajaniṣṭa dakṣa yā duhitā tava | tāṃ devā anvajāyanta bhadrā amṛtabandhavaḥ ||

Aditi, who was your daughter, Dakṣa, was born; after her the gods were born adorable, freed from thebonds of death.

यद्देवा अदः सलिले सुसंरब्धा अतिष्ठत । अत्रा वो नृत्यतामिव तीव्रो रेणुरपायत ॥

yaddevā adaḥ salile susaṃrabdhā atiṣṭhata | atrā vo nṛtyatāmiva tīvro reṇurapāyata ||

When, goeds, your abode in this pool well-arranged, then a pungent dust went forth from you as if youwere dancing.

यद्देवा यतयो यथा भुवनान्यपिन्वत । अत्रा समुद्र आ गूऴ्हमा सूर्यमजभर्तन ॥

yaddevā yatayo yathā bhuvanānyapinvata | atrā samudra ā gūḻhamā sūryamajabhartana ||

When, gods, you filled the worlds (with your radiance) as clouds (fill the earth with rain), then youbrought forth the wun hidden in the ocean.

अष्टौ पुत्रासो अदितेर्ये जातास्तन्वस्परि । देवाँ उप प्रैत्सप्तभिः परा मार्ताण्डमास्यत् ॥

aṣṭau putrāso aditerye jātāstanvaspari | devā~ upa praitsaptabhiḥ parā mārtāṇḍamāsyat ||

Eight sons (there were) of Āditya who were born from her body; she approached the gods withseven, she sent forth Mārtāṇḍa on high (Taittirīya Āraṇyaka 1.13.3)

सप्तभिः पुत्रैरदितिरुप प्रैत्पूर्व्यं युगम् । प्रजायै मृत्यवे त्वत्पुनर्मार्ताण्डमाभरत् ॥

saptabhiḥ putrairaditirupa praitpūrvyaṃ yugam | prajāyai mṛtyave tvatpunarmārtāṇḍamābharat ||

With seven sons Aditi went to a former genitive ration, but she bore Mārtāṇḍa for the birth and death(of human beings).
