[rv-10-70] • 11 श्लोकाः

इमां मे अग्ने समिधं जुषस्वेऴस्पदे प्रति हर्या घृताचीम् । वर्ष्मन्पृथिव्याः सुदिनत्वे अह्नामूर्ध्वो भव सुक्रतो देवयज्या ॥

imāṃ me agne samidhaṃ juṣasveḻaspade prati haryā ghṛtācīm | varṣmanpṛthivyāḥ sudinatve ahnāmūrdhvo bhava sukrato devayajyā ||

Graciously accept, Agni, this my fuel (plural ced) on the plural ce of libation (the altar); delight in thebutter-laden (spoon); most wise, rise up upon the lofty plural ce of the earth for the propitiousness of the daysthrough the worship of the gods.

आ देवानामग्रयावेह यातु नराशंसो विश्वरूपेभिरश्वैः । ऋतस्य पथा नमसा मियेधो देवेभ्यो देवतमः सुषूदत् ॥

ā devānāmagrayāveha yātu narāśaṃso viśvarūpebhiraśvaiḥ | ṛtasya pathā namasā miyedho devebhyo devatamaḥ suṣūdat ||

May Narāśaṃsa, the preceder of the gods, come here with his horses of various forms; deserving ofadoration, chief of the gods, may he effuse (oblations) to the gods by the path of the sacrifice with praise.

शश्वत्तममीऴते दूत्याय हविष्मन्तो मनुष्यासो अग्निम् । वहिष्ठैरश्वैः सुवृता रथेना देवान्वक्षि नि षदेह होता ॥

śaśvattamamīḻate dūtyāya haviṣmanto manuṣyāso agnim | vahiṣṭhairaśvaiḥ suvṛtā rathenā devānvakṣi ni ṣadeha hotā ||

Men offering oblations adore the eternal Agni to (induce him to perform) the duty of messenger (to thegods); do you with your stalwart draught horses and your well-turning chariots bear (our offering) to the gods,and sit down here as the ministrant priest.

वि प्रथतां देवजुष्टं तिरश्चा दीर्घं द्राघ्मा सुरभि भूत्वस्मे । अहेऴता मनसा देव बर्हिरिन्द्रज्येष्ठाँ उशतो यक्षि देवान् ॥

vi prathatāṃ devajuṣṭaṃ tiraścā dīrghaṃ drāghmā surabhi bhūtvasme | aheḻatā manasā deva barhirindrajyeṣṭhā~ uśato yakṣi devān ||

May our (sacred grass) acceptable to the gods, twining crookedly be stretched out, may it be long,lengthy, and fragrant; with mind free from wrath, divine Barhis, offer worship to the gods desiring (the sacrifice),of whom Indra is the chief.

दिवो वा सानु स्पृशता वरीयः पृथिव्या वा मात्रया वि श्रयध्वम् । उशतीर्द्वारो महिना महद्भिर्देवं रथं रथयुर्धारयध्वम् ॥

divo vā sānu spṛśatā varīyaḥ pṛthivyā vā mātrayā vi śrayadhvam | uśatīrdvāro mahinā mahadbhirdevaṃ rathaṃ rathayurdhārayadhvam ||

Be in contact, doors, with the lofty height of heaven, or expand according to the measure of the earth;desiring the gods, desiring a chariot, sustain without might the shining chariot (that is mounted) by the mightygods.

देवी दिवो दुहितरा सुशिल्पे उषासानक्ता सदतां नि योनौ । आ वां देवास उशती उशन्त उरौ सीदन्तु सुभगे उपस्थे ॥

devī divo duhitarā suśilpe uṣāsānaktā sadatāṃ ni yonau | ā vāṃ devāsa uśatī uśanta urau sīdantu subhage upasthe ||

Radiant daughters of heaven, Dawn and Night, sit down on the plural ce of sacrifice; O you, who aredesirous and possessed of affluence, may the gods desirous (of oblations) sit down on your spacious lap.

ऊर्ध्वो ग्रावा बृहदग्निः समिद्धः प्रिया धामान्यदितेरुपस्थे । पुरोहितावृत्विजा यज्ञे अस्मिन्विदुष्टरा द्रविणमा यजेथाम् ॥

ūrdhvo grāvā bṛhadagniḥ samiddhaḥ priyā dhāmānyaditerupasthe | purohitāvṛtvijā yajñe asminviduṣṭarā draviṇamā yajethām ||

(When) the grinding-stone is uplifted, the mighty Agni kindled, the acceptable vessels (ready) on thelap of earth; (then), most learned priests, who take the foremost plural ce, bestow wealth upon us at this sacrifice.

तिस्रो देवीर्बर्हिरिदं वरीय आ सीदत चकृमा वः स्योनम् । मनुष्वद्यज्ञं सुधिता हवींषीऴा देवी घृतपदी जुषन्त ॥

tisro devīrbarhiridaṃ varīya ā sīdata cakṛmā vaḥ syonam | manuṣvadyajñaṃ sudhitā havīṃṣīḻā devī ghṛtapadī juṣanta ||

Sit down, you three goddesses, upon this broad barhis, we have spread it out for you; Iḷā, radiant(Sarasvatī) and bright-footed (bhāratī) accept our sacrifice and well-presented oblations as if they wereManu's.

देव त्वष्टर्यद्ध चारुत्वमानड्यदङ्गिरसामभवः सचाभूः । स देवानां पाथ उप प्र विद्वाँ उशन्यक्षि द्रविणोदः सुरत्नः ॥

deva tvaṣṭaryaddha cārutvamānaḍyadaṅgirasāmabhavaḥ sacābhūḥ | sa devānāṃ pātha upa pra vidvā~ uśanyakṣi draviṇodaḥ suratnaḥ ||

Divine Tvaṣṭā, since you have attained to beauty (through our oblations), and have become theassociate of the Aṅgirasas, do you, the bestower of wealth, possessed of precious treasure, and knowing (towhom each portion belongs), offer the food of the gods (to them).

वनस्पते रशनया नियूया देवानां पाथ उप वक्षि विद्वान् । स्वदाति देवः कृणवद्धवींष्यवतां द्यावापृथिवी हवं मे ॥

vanaspate raśanayā niyūyā devānāṃ pātha upa vakṣi vidvān | svadāti devaḥ kṛṇavaddhavīṃṣyavatāṃ dyāvāpṛthivī havaṃ me ||

Vanaspati, who are intelligent, having fastened it with a rope, convey the food of the gods; may thedivine (Vanaspati) taste it, may he take the oblations (to the gods); may heaven and earth protect my invocatioṇ

आग्ने वह वरुणमिष्टये न इन्द्रं दिवो मरुतो अन्तरिक्षात् । सीदन्तु बर्हिर्विश्व आ यजत्राः स्वाहा देवा अमृता मादयन्ताम् ॥

āgne vaha varuṇamiṣṭaye na indraṃ divo maruto antarikṣāt | sīdantu barhirviśva ā yajatrāḥ svāhā devā amṛtā mādayantām ||

Bring, Agni, to our sacrifice Varuṇa and Indra from heaven, and the Maruts from the firmament, maythe adorable universal gods sit down on the sacred grass, and may the immortal deities rejoice in (the oblationpresented with) the svāhā.
