[rv-10-48] • 11 श्लोकाः

अहं भुवं वसुनः पूर्व्यस्पतिरहं धनानि सं जयामि शश्वतः । मां हवन्ते पितरं न जन्तवोऽहं दाशुषे वि भजामि भोजनम् ॥

ahaṃ bhuvaṃ vasunaḥ pūrvyaspatirahaṃ dhanāni saṃ jayāmi śaśvataḥ | māṃ havante pitaraṃ na jantavo'haṃ dāśuṣe vi bhajāmi bhojanam ||

I am the principal lord of wealth; I conquer the treasure of many (adversaries); living beings call uponme as (sons call upon) a father; I bestow food on the donor of oblations.

अहमिन्द्रो रोधो वक्षो अथर्वणस्त्रिताय गा अजनयमहेरधि । अहं दस्युभ्यः परि नृम्णमा ददे गोत्रा शिक्षन्दधीचे मातरिश्वने ॥

ahamindro rodho vakṣo atharvaṇastritāya gā ajanayamaheradhi | ahaṃ dasyubhyaḥ pari nṛmṇamā dade gotrā śikṣandadhīce mātariśvane ||

I, Indra, amd the strtiker off of the head of the son of Atharvan, I genitive rated the waters from above thecloud for the sake of Trita. I carried off their wealth from the Dasyus; taming the clouds for Dadhyañc, the son ofMātariśvan.

मह्यं त्वष्टा वज्रमतक्षदायसं मयि देवासोऽवृजन्नपि क्रतुम् । ममानीकं सूर्यस्येव दुष्टरं मामार्यन्ति कृतेन कर्त्वेन च ॥

mahyaṃ tvaṣṭā vajramatakṣadāyasaṃ mayi devāso'vṛjannapi kratum | mamānīkaṃ sūryasyeva duṣṭaraṃ māmāryanti kṛtena kartvena ca ||

For me Tvaṣṭā fabricated the metal thunderbolt; in me the gods have concentrated pious acts; mylustre is insurmountable, like that of the Sun; men acknowledge me as lord in consequence of what I have done,and of what I shall do.

अहमेतं गव्ययमश्व्यं पशुं पुरीषिणं सायकेना हिरण्ययम् । पुरू सहस्रा नि शिशामि दाशुषे यन्मा सोमास उक्थिनो अमन्दिषुः ॥

ahametaṃ gavyayamaśvyaṃ paśuṃ purīṣiṇaṃ sāyakenā hiraṇyayam | purū sahasrā ni śiśāmi dāśuṣe yanmā somāsa ukthino amandiṣuḥ ||

(I conquered) by my shaft this (wealth) comprehending kine, horses, herds, water, and gold; I givemany thousands to the donor (of the oblation) when libations and praises have afforded me delight.

अहमिन्द्रो न परा जिग्य इद्धनं न मृत्यवेऽव तस्थे कदा चन । सोममिन्मा सुन्वन्तो याचता वसु न मे पूरवः सख्ये रिषाथन ॥

ahamindro na parā jigya iddhanaṃ na mṛtyave'va tasthe kadā cana | somaminmā sunvanto yācatā vasu na me pūravaḥ sakhye riṣāthana ||

I, Indra, am not surpassed in affluence; I never yield to death; pouring forth the Soma libation, ask ofme wealth; O men, forfeit not my friendship.

अहमेताञ्छाश्वसतो द्वाद्वेन्द्रं ये वज्रं युधयेऽकृण्वत । आह्वयमानाँ अव हन्मनाहनं दृऴ्हा वदन्ननमस्युर्नमस्विनः ॥

ahametāñchāśvasato dvādvendraṃ ye vajraṃ yudhaye'kṛṇvata | āhvayamānā~ ava hanmanāhanaṃ dṛḻhā vadannanamasyurnamasvinaḥ ||

I destroy those powerful (enemies) two by two who defy the (wielder of the) thunderbolt, Indra, tobattle, I slew them challenging (me to fight) with (great) slaughter, the unbending (slaying) the bending, theuttering stern (menaces).

अभीदमेकमेको अस्मि निष्षाऴभी द्वा किमु त्रयः करन्ति । खले न पर्षान्प्रति हन्मि भूरि किं मा निन्दन्ति शत्रवोऽनिन्द्राः ॥

abhīdamekameko asmi niṣṣāḻabhī dvā kimu trayaḥ karanti | khale na parṣānprati hanmi bhūri kiṃ mā nindanti śatravo'nindrāḥ ||

Single, I overcome my single (adversary); (over-powering them) I overcome two foes; what can threeenemies who know not Indra revile me?

अहं गुङ्गुभ्यो अतिथिग्वमिष्करमिषं न वृत्रतुरं विक्षु धारयम् । यत्पर्णयघ्न उत वा करञ्जहे प्राहं महे वृत्रहत्ये अशुश्रवि ॥

ahaṃ guṅgubhyo atithigvamiṣkaramiṣaṃ na vṛtraturaṃ vikṣu dhārayam | yatparṇayaghna uta vā karañjahe prāhaṃ mahe vṛtrahatye aśuśravi ||

I prepared Atithigva for (the protection of) the Guṅgus, I upheld him, the destroyer of enemies, assustenance among the people; when I gained renown in the great Vṛtra-battle, in which Parṇaya and Karañja= hospitable; guṅgus = name of a people; parṇaya and karañja = names of asuras].

प्र मे नमी साप्य इषे भुजे भूद्गवामेषे सख्या कृणुत द्विता । दिद्युं यदस्य समिथेषु मंहयमादिदेनं शंस्यमुक्थ्यं करम् ॥

pra me namī sāpya iṣe bhuje bhūdgavāmeṣe sakhyā kṛṇuta dvitā | didyuṃ yadasya samitheṣu maṃhayamādidenaṃ śaṃsyamukthyaṃ karam ||

My praiser, the refuge (of all), was food to enjoy; (him, men) use in two ways, to search for their cattle,and to be their freiend, when I bestow upon him a weapon in his battles, and make him worthy of celebrity andpraise.

प्र नेमस्मिन्ददृशे सोमो अन्तर्गोपा नेममाविरस्था कृणोति । स तिग्मशृङ्गं वृषभं युयुत्सन्द्रुहस्तस्थौ बहुले बद्धो अन्तः ॥

pra nemasmindadṛśe somo antargopā nemamāvirasthā kṛṇoti | sa tigmaśṛṅgaṃ vṛṣabhaṃ yuyutsandruhastasthau bahule baddho antaḥ ||

The Soma is seen in one of the two (combatants); the cowherd (Indra) manifests the other with histhunderbolt; the latter warring against the sharp- horned bull, remains in great (darkness) bound by the victoṛ

आदित्यानां वसूनां रुद्रियाणां देवो देवानां न मिनामि धाम । ते मा भद्राय शवसे ततक्षुरपराजितमस्तृतमषाऴ्हम् ॥

ādityānāṃ vasūnāṃ rudriyāṇāṃ devo devānāṃ na mināmi dhāma | te mā bhadrāya śavase tatakṣuraparājitamastṛtamaṣāḻham ||

The divine (Indra) abandons not the abode of the deities, the Ādityas, the Vasus, and the Rudriyas;may they fashion me for auspicious vigour, undefeated, unharmed, unconquered.
