[rv-10-46] • 10 श्लोकाः

प्र होता जातो महान्नभोविन्नृषद्वा सीददपामुपस्थे । दधिर्यो धायि स ते वयांसि यन्ता वसूनि विधते तनूपाः ॥

pra hotā jāto mahānnabhovinnṛṣadvā sīdadapāmupasthe | dadhiryo dhāyi sa te vayāṃsi yantā vasūni vidhate tanūpāḥ ||

A mighty ministrant priest, one cognizant of heaven, though abiding with men, having been born, isseated on the lap of the waters; may he, the upholder (of sacrifice), who has been stationed (on the altar), be toyou when offering worship, the giver of food and riches, the protector of your person n.

इमं विधन्तो अपां सधस्थे पशुं न नष्टं पदैरनु ग्मन् । गुहा चतन्तमुशिजो नमोभिरिच्छन्तो धीरा भृगवोऽविन्दन् ॥

imaṃ vidhanto apāṃ sadhasthe paśuṃ na naṣṭaṃ padairanu gman | guhā catantamuśijo namobhiricchanto dhīrā bhṛgavo'vindan ||

Details:

इमं त्रितो भूर्यविन्ददिच्छन्वैभूवसो मूर्धन्यघ्न्यायाः । स शेवृधो जात आ हर्म्येषु नाभिर्युवा भवति रोचनस्य ॥

imaṃ trito bhūryavindadicchanvaibhūvaso mūrdhanyaghnyāyāḥ | sa śevṛdho jāta ā harmyeṣu nābhiryuvā bhavati rocanasya ||

Trita, the son of Vibhuvas, searching (for him), found mighty Agni on the head of the cow; he theaugmenter of happiness manifested in the dwellings (of the pious), the youthful (connecting) bond of theresplendent (Sun).

मन्द्रं होतारमुशिजो नमोभिः प्राञ्चं यज्ञं नेतारमध्वराणाम् । विशामकृण्वन्नरतिं पावकं हव्यवाहं दधतो मानुषेषु ॥

mandraṃ hotāramuśijo namobhiḥ prāñcaṃ yajñaṃ netāramadhvarāṇām | viśāmakṛṇvannaratiṃ pāvakaṃ havyavāhaṃ dadhato mānuṣeṣu ||

(The priests) desirous (to propitiate him), detaining him among men, have by their adoration made himlord over all people, him the exhilarator, the presenteer of burnt offerings, the migrator, the object of sacrifice, theleader of rites, the purifier, the bearer of oblations.

प्र भूर्जयन्तं महां विपोधां मूरा अमूरं पुरां दर्माणम् । नयन्तो गर्भं वनां धियं धुर्हिरिश्मश्रुं नार्वाणं धनर्चम् ॥

pra bhūrjayantaṃ mahāṃ vipodhāṃ mūrā amūraṃ purāṃ darmāṇam | nayanto garbhaṃ vanāṃ dhiyaṃ dhurhiriśmaśruṃ nārvāṇaṃ dhanarcam ||

Be competent, (priest, to glorify) the victorious mighty Agni, the sustainer of the wise, (even) fools(adore) him, the exempt from folly, the demolisher of cities; conducting the embryo of touchwood, (Agni). Like agolden- haired, swift-moving (horse), loving praise and wealth, they bring him to the sacrifice.

नि पस्त्यासु त्रितः स्तभूयन्परिवीतो योनौ सीददन्तः । अतः संगृभ्या विशां दमूना विधर्मणायन्त्रैरीयते नॄन् ॥

ni pastyāsu tritaḥ stabhūyanparivīto yonau sīdadantaḥ | ataḥ saṃgṛbhyā viśāṃ damūnā vidharmaṇāyantrairīyate nṝn ||

Occupying three (satations), consolidation (the dwelling of the worshipper), surrounded (by flames),he sits down upon the altar in the chambers (of sacrifice); from there, having accepted (the oblations) of thepeople, with intent to give (them to the gods), in various ways, he (Agni) goes to the gods holding (his foes) incheck.

अस्याजरासो दमामरित्रा अर्चद्धूमासो अग्नयः पावकाः । श्वितीचयः श्वात्रासो भुरण्यवो वनर्षदो वायवो न सोमाः ॥

asyājarāso damāmaritrā arcaddhūmāso agnayaḥ pāvakāḥ | śvitīcayaḥ śvātrāso bhuraṇyavo vanarṣado vāyavo na somāḥ ||

The undecaying fires of the worshipper, the rescuers from the humiliated (spirits of ill), havingadorable smoke, purifying, becoming white, swift, bearing (the oblation), sitting in the wood, (are) like thefast-flowing Soma.

प्र जिह्वया भरते वेपो अग्निः प्र वयुनानि चेतसा पृथिव्याः । तमायवः शुचयन्तं पावकं मन्द्रं होतारं दधिरे यजिष्ठम् ॥

pra jihvayā bharate vepo agniḥ pra vayunāni cetasā pṛthivyāḥ | tamāyavaḥ śucayantaṃ pāvakaṃ mandraṃ hotāraṃ dadhire yajiṣṭham ||

Agni, who bears off (the oblation) with his tongue (of flames), who bears off the hymns of praise with(favourable) mind (for the preservation) of the earth; him men appointed as the shining, purifying, exulting hotā,the most entitled to worship.

द्यावा यमग्निं पृथिवी जनिष्टामापस्त्वष्टा भृगवो यं सहोभिः । ईऴेन्यं प्रथमं मातरिश्वा देवास्ततक्षुर्मनवे यजत्रम् ॥

dyāvā yamagniṃ pṛthivī janiṣṭāmāpastvaṣṭā bhṛgavo yaṃ sahobhiḥ | īḻenyaṃ prathamaṃ mātariśvā devāstatakṣurmanave yajatram ||

Agni, whom heaven and earth engendered, (whom) the waters and Tvaṣṭā, and the Bṛghus by theirpowers (begot),; the adorable one, whom Mātariśvan first, and the gods fabricated as the object of worship ofManu.

यं त्वा देवा दधिरे हव्यवाहं पुरुस्पृहो मानुषासो यजत्रम् । स यामन्नग्ने स्तुवते वयो धाः प्र देवयन्यशसः सं हि पूर्वीः ॥

yaṃ tvā devā dadhire havyavāhaṃ puruspṛho mānuṣāso yajatram | sa yāmannagne stuvate vayo dhāḥ pra devayanyaśasaḥ saṃ hi pūrvīḥ ||

You, whom the gods appointed as the bearer of oblations, whom men, desiring manifold blessings,regard as the object of worship; do you, Agni, bestow food upon him who praises you at the sacrifice; for thedevout worshipper verily obtains great renown.
