[rv-10-42] • 11 श्लोकाः

अस्तेव सु प्रतरं लायमस्यन्भूषन्निव प्र भरा स्तोममस्मै । वाचा विप्रास्तरत वाचमर्यो नि रामय जरितः सोम इन्द्रम् ॥

asteva su prataraṃ lāyamasyanbhūṣanniva pra bharā stomamasmai | vācā viprāstarata vācamaryo ni rāmaya jaritaḥ soma indram ||

Direct your laudation to him, (Indra), like an archer aiming a larger arrow (to its mark), like a decorator(applying his ornaments); surpass by your praises, sages, the praises of your adversaries; delight Indraworshipper, by the (offering of the) Soma.

दोहेन गामुप शिक्षा सखायं प्र बोधय जरितर्जारमिन्द्रम् । कोशं न पूर्णं वसुना न्यृष्टमा च्यावय मघदेयाय शूरम् ॥

dohena gāmupa śikṣā sakhāyaṃ pra bodhaya jaritarjāramindram | kośaṃ na pūrṇaṃ vasunā nyṛṣṭamā cyāvaya maghadeyāya śūram ||

Control, worshipper, your friend (Indra), like a cow for your milking; awake, Indra, the author of decay;bring down for the distribution of wealth the hero who is pressed down with wealth like a vessel full (of water).

किमङ्ग त्वा मघवन्भोजमाहुः शिशीहि मा शिशयं त्वा शृणोमि । अप्नस्वती मम धीरस्तु शक्र वसुविदं भगमिन्द्रा भरा नः ॥

kimaṅga tvā maghavanbhojamāhuḥ śiśīhi mā śiśayaṃ tvā śṛṇomi | apnasvatī mama dhīrastu śakra vasuvidaṃ bhagamindrā bharā naḥ ||

Why, Maghavat, do (the wise) call you the nourisher (of worshippers)? Quicken me, (Indra), withwealth, (for) I hear that you are the quickener (of the worshipper); may my understanding, Śakra, be productiveof works; grant us, Indra, a destiny that brings wealth.

त्वां जना ममसत्येष्विन्द्र संतस्थाना वि ह्वयन्ते समीके । अत्रा युजं कृणुते यो हविष्मान्नासुन्वता सख्यं वष्टि शूरः ॥

tvāṃ janā mamasatyeṣvindra saṃtasthānā vi hvayante samīke | atrā yujaṃ kṛṇute yo haviṣmānnāsunvatā sakhyaṃ vaṣṭi śūraḥ ||

The people earnestly call upon you in battles, Indra, (they call upon you) when standing together inthe conflict; at this (call) Indra makes him his friend who offers oblations; the hero desires not friendship with himwho presents no libation.

धनं न स्यन्द्रं बहुलं यो अस्मै तीव्रान्त्सोमाँ आसुनोति प्रयस्वान् । तस्मै शत्रून्त्सुतुकान्प्रातरह्नो नि स्वष्ट्रान्युवति हन्ति वृत्रम् ॥

dhanaṃ na syandraṃ bahulaṃ yo asmai tīvrāntsomā~ āsunoti prayasvān | tasmai śatrūntsutukānprātarahno ni svaṣṭrānyuvati hanti vṛtram ||

The bearer of the oblation who offers to Indra the sharp Soma, like much moveable wealth (given tothe poor)-- for him in the fore part of the day Indra scatters his eager and well-armed (enemies), and defeats hisfoe.

यस्मिन्वयं दधिमा शंसमिन्द्रे यः शिश्राय मघवा काममस्मे । आराच्चित्सन्भयतामस्य शत्रुर्न्यस्मै द्युम्ना जन्या नमन्ताम् ॥

yasminvayaṃ dadhimā śaṃsamindre yaḥ śiśrāya maghavā kāmamasme | ārāccitsanbhayatāmasya śatrurnyasmai dyumnā janyā namantām ||

May the enemy of that Indra on whom we have laid our praise, the lord of affluence, who has grantedus our desires, be in the fear of him even when far off; may the food belonging to the country of the foe bowdown before him (to enjoy).

आराच्छत्रुमप बाधस्व दूरमुग्रो यः शम्बः पुरुहूत तेन । अस्मे धेहि यवमद्गोमदिन्द्र कृधी धियं जरित्रे वाजरत्नाम् ॥

ārācchatrumapa bādhasva dūramugro yaḥ śambaḥ puruhūta tena | asme dhehi yavamadgomadindra kṛdhī dhiyaṃ jaritre vājaratnām ||

Invoked of many, (Indra) drive far away the enemy with that fierce thunderbolt of yours; grant to us,Indra, wealth of barley and cattle; render to the worshipper his sacrifice productive of plural asant food.

प्र यमन्तर्वृषसवासो अग्मन्तीव्राः सोमा बहुलान्तास इन्द्रम् । नाह दामानं मघवा नि यंसन्नि सुन्वते वहति भूरि वामम् ॥

pra yamantarvṛṣasavāso agmantīvrāḥ somā bahulāntāsa indram | nāha dāmānaṃ maghavā ni yaṃsanni sunvate vahati bhūri vāmam ||

The Indra into whom the sharp abundant Soma effused by (the priests), the showerers (of the Soma),have entered; he, Maghavat, deserts not the donor of the sacrifice, but bestows ample wealth upon him whopresents libations.

उत प्रहामतिदीव्या जयाति कृतं यच्छ्वघ्नी विचिनोति काले । यो देवकामो न धना रुणद्धि समित्तं राया सृजति स्वधावान् ॥

uta prahāmatidīvyā jayāti kṛtaṃ yacchvaghnī vicinoti kāle | yo devakāmo na dhanā ruṇaddhi samittaṃ rāyā sṛjati svadhāvān ||

Having driven away the assailant, he triumphs; at the time (of battle) he selects his antagonist as doesa gambler. The man who, desirous of gratifying the gods, withholds not his riches, him the powerful Indraassociates with wealth.

गोभिष्टरेमामतिं दुरेवां यवेन क्षुधं पुरुहूत विश्वाम् । वयं राजभिः प्रथमा धनान्यस्माकेन वृजनेना जयेम ॥

gobhiṣṭaremāmatiṃ durevāṃ yavena kṣudhaṃ puruhūta viśvām | vayaṃ rājabhiḥ prathamā dhanānyasmākena vṛjanenā jayema ||

Indra, invoked of many, may we escape all ignorance caused by poverty by means of our cattle; (maywe escape) all hunger by means of our barley; (may we acquire) the chief riches through the princes (of wealth);may we conquer by our valour.

बृहस्पतिर्नः परि पातु पश्चादुतोत्तरस्मादधरादघायोः । इन्द्रः पुरस्तादुत मध्यतो नः सखा सखिभ्यो वरिवः कृणोतु ॥

bṛhaspatirnaḥ pari pātu paścādutottarasmādadharādaghāyoḥ | indraḥ purastāduta madhyato naḥ sakhā sakhibhyo varivaḥ kṛṇotu ||

May Bṛhaspati defend us from a malignant (foe) coming from behind, from above, or from below; mayIndra defend us from foes in front and in the middle; may he, our friend, bestow wealth upon (us) his friends.
