[rv-10-36] • 14 श्लोकाः

उषासानक्ता बृहती सुपेशसा द्यावाक्षामा वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा । इन्द्रं हुवे मरुतः पर्वताँ अप आदित्यान्द्यावापृथिवी अपः स्वः ॥

uṣāsānaktā bṛhatī supeśasā dyāvākṣāmā varuṇo mitro aryamā | indraṃ huve marutaḥ parvatā~ apa ādityāndyāvāpṛthivī apaḥ svaḥ ||

I invoke the vast and beautiful day and night, heaven and earth, Mitra and Varuṇa with Aryaman,Indra, the Maruts, the mountains, the waters, the Ādityas, heaven and earth, the waters (of the firmament), thewhole (host of the gods).

द्यौश्च नः पृथिवी च प्रचेतस ऋतावरी रक्षतामंहसो रिषः । मा दुर्विदत्रा निॠतिर्न ईशत तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

dyauśca naḥ pṛthivī ca pracetasa ṛtāvarī rakṣatāmaṃhaso riṣaḥ | mā durvidatrā niṝtirna īśata taddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

May the intelligent and truthful heaven and earth defend us from sin, and from malignant; let not themalevolent Nirṛti have power over us; we solicit today this protection of the gods.

विश्वस्मान्नो अदितिः पात्वंहसो माता मित्रस्य वरुणस्य रेवतः । स्वर्वज्ज्योतिरवृकं नशीमहि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

viśvasmānno aditiḥ pātvaṃhaso mātā mitrasya varuṇasya revataḥ | svarvajjyotiravṛkaṃ naśīmahi taddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

May Aditi, the mother of the opulent Mitra and Varuṇa, preserve us from all sin, may we hasten tocelestial light, which is free from oppressors; we solicit today this protection of the gods.

ग्रावा वदन्नप रक्षांसि सेधतु दुष्ष्वप्न्यं निॠतिं विश्वमत्रिणम् । आदित्यं शर्म मरुतामशीमहि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

grāvā vadannapa rakṣāṃsi sedhatu duṣṣvapnyaṃ niṝtiṃ viśvamatriṇam | ādityaṃ śarma marutāmaśīmahi taddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

May the sounding stone drive away rākṣasas, evil dreams, Nirṛti, and every spirit of ill; may weobtain the happiness of the Ādityas and the Maruts; we solicit today this protection of the gods.

एन्द्रो बर्हिः सीदतु पिन्वतामिऴा बृहस्पतिः सामभिॠक्वो अर्चतु । सुप्रकेतं जीवसे मन्म धीमहि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

endro barhiḥ sīdatu pinvatāmiḻā bṛhaspatiḥ sāmabhiṝkvo arcatu | supraketaṃ jīvase manma dhīmahi taddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

May Indra sit down upon the sacred grass; may Iḷā be propitious; may Bṛhaspati the singer hymnedwith Sāmans honour us; we offer an intelligent prayer for life; we solcit today this protection of the gods.

दिविस्पृशं यज्ञमस्माकमश्विना जीराध्वरं कृणुतं सुम्नमिष्टये । प्राचीनरश्मिमाहुतं घृतेन तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

divispṛśaṃ yajñamasmākamaśvinā jīrādhvaraṃ kṛṇutaṃ sumnamiṣṭaye | prācīnaraśmimāhutaṃ ghṛtena taddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

Aśvins, make our sacriice ascend to heaven free from injury, happy for the attainment of our desires;make the fire to which she is offered blaze up towards (the gods); we solicit today this protection of our gods.

उप ह्वये सुहवं मारुतं गणं पावकमृष्वं सख्याय शम्भुवम् । रायस्पोषं सौश्रवसाय धीमहि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

upa hvaye suhavaṃ mārutaṃ gaṇaṃ pāvakamṛṣvaṃ sakhyāya śambhuvam | rāyaspoṣaṃ sauśravasāya dhīmahi taddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

I invoke for their friendship, the deservedly invoked, purifying, beautiful troops of the Maruts, the giversof felicity, the dispensers of riches; we meditate upon them for the attainemtn of abundant food; we solicit todaythis protection of the gods.

अपां पेरुं जीवधन्यं भरामहे देवाव्यं सुहवमध्वरश्रियम् । सुरश्मिं सोममिन्द्रियं यमीमहि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

apāṃ peruṃ jīvadhanyaṃ bharāmahe devāvyaṃ suhavamadhvaraśriyam | suraśmiṃ somamindriyaṃ yamīmahi taddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

We offer the Soma, the protector of the waters, affluent in life, the delighter of the gods, who iswell-praised, the glory of sacrifice, the brilliant-rayed, the vigour which we desire; we solicit today this protectionof the gods.

सनेम तत्सुसनिता सनित्वभिर्वयं जीवा जीवपुत्रा अनागसः । ब्रह्मद्विषो विष्वगेनो भरेरत तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

sanema tatsusanitā sanitvabhirvayaṃ jīvā jīvaputrā anāgasaḥ | brahmadviṣo viṣvageno bharerata taddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

Living with living offspring, and free from fault, let us make offerings (to the gods), sharing with thosewho share with us; may those who hate the brāhmaṇas, carry off our iniquity in different directions; we solicittoday this protection of the gods.

ये स्था मनोर्यज्ञियास्ते शृणोतन यद्वो देवा ईमहे तद्ददातन । जैत्रं क्रतुं रयिमद्वीरवद्यशस्तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

ye sthā manoryajñiyāste śṛṇotana yadvo devā īmahe taddadātana | jaitraṃ kratuṃ rayimadvīravadyaśastaddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

Gods, who are entitled to the worship of men, hear (our prayers), and grant us that which we request;(bestow upon us) the intelligence requisite for victory, and fame with wealth, and male progeny; we solicit todaythis protection of the gods.

महदद्य महतामा वृणीमहेऽवो देवानां बृहतामनर्वणाम् । यथा वसु वीरजातं नशामहै तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

mahadadya mahatāmā vṛṇīmahe'vo devānāṃ bṛhatāmanarvaṇām | yathā vasu vīrajātaṃ naśāmahai taddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

We impolore today the especial protection of the mighty, the great, the irresistible, gods, that we mayobtain riches, and male progeny; we solicit today this protection of the gods.

महो अग्नेः समिधानस्य शर्मण्यनागा मित्रे वरुणे स्वस्तये । श्रेष्ठे स्याम सवितुः सवीमनि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे ॥

maho agneḥ samidhānasya śarmaṇyanāgā mitre varuṇe svastaye | śreṣṭhe syāma savituḥ savīmani taddevānāmavo adyā vṛṇīmahe ||

May we free from sin be in the (enjoyment of the) happiness of the mighty kindled Agni; and in (thekeeping of) Mitra and Varuṇa for our welfare; may we be among the excellent progeny of Savitā; we solicittoday this protection of the gods.

ये सवितुः सत्यसवस्य विश्वे मित्रस्य व्रते वरुणस्य देवाः । ते सौभगं वीरवद्गोमदप्नो दधातन द्रविणं चित्रमस्मे ॥

ye savituḥ satyasavasya viśve mitrasya vrate varuṇasya devāḥ | te saubhagaṃ vīravadgomadapno dadhātana draviṇaṃ citramasme ||

Universal gods, who (take part) in the functions of Savitā, the parent of truth, of Mitra and Varuṇa,confer upon us auspicious and honourable wealth, comprising male progeny, and cattle, and (pious) acts.

सविता पश्चातात्सविता पुरस्तात्सवितोत्तरात्तात्सविताधरात्तात् । सविता नः सुवतु सर्वतातिं सविता नो रासतां दीर्घमायुः ॥

savitā paścātātsavitā purastātsavitottarāttātsavitādharāttāt | savitā naḥ suvatu sarvatātiṃ savitā no rāsatāṃ dīrghamāyuḥ ||

May Savitā on the west, Savitā on the east, Savitā on the north, Savitā on the south, may Savitāsend us all desired wealth, may Savitā bestow upon us long life.
