[rv-10-30] • 15 श्लोकाः

प्र देवत्रा ब्रह्मणे गातुरेत्वपो अच्छा मनसो न प्रयुक्ति । महीं मित्रस्य वरुणस्य धासिं पृथुज्रयसे रीरधा सुवृक्तिम् ॥

pra devatrā brahmaṇe gāturetvapo acchā manaso na prayukti | mahīṃ mitrasya varuṇasya dhāsiṃ pṛthujrayase rīradhā suvṛktim ||

(Honoured) by adoration, let the advancing Soma approach the celestial waters like the celerity of themind; offer abundant (sacrificial) food, and perfect praise for the sake of Mitra and Varuṇa, and for (Indra) therapid mover.

अध्वर्यवो हविष्मन्तो हि भूताच्छाप इतोशतीरुशन्तः । अव याश्चष्टे अरुणः सुपर्णस्तमास्यध्वमूर्मिमद्या सुहस्ताः ॥

adhvaryavo haviṣmanto hi bhūtācchāpa itośatīruśantaḥ | ava yāścaṣṭe aruṇaḥ suparṇastamāsyadhvamūrmimadyā suhastāḥ ||

Priests, since you are charged with the libation, desiring (to present it), proceed to the waters desiring(to receive it), to those (waters) which the red hawk beholds descending (from the clouds); do you,dextrous-handed (priests), cast today that flood (of Soma) into (the consecrated water).

अध्वर्यवोऽप इता समुद्रमपां नपातं हविषा यजध्वम् । स वो दददूर्मिमद्या सुपूतं तस्मै सोमं मधुमन्तं सुनोत ॥

adhvaryavo'pa itā samudramapāṃ napātaṃ haviṣā yajadhvam | sa vo dadadūrmimadyā supūtaṃ tasmai somaṃ madhumantaṃ sunota ||

Go, priests, to the water, to the reservoir; worship the grandson of the waters with oblations; may hetoday give you the consecrated water, and do you pour forth to him the sweet-flavoured Soma.

यो अनिध्मो दीदयदप्स्वन्तर्यं विप्रास ईऴते अध्वरेषु । अपां नपान्मधुमतीरपो दा याभिरिन्द्रो वावृधे वीर्याय ॥

yo anidhmo dīdayadapsvantaryaṃ viprāsa īḻate adhvareṣu | apāṃ napānmadhumatīrapo dā yābhirindro vāvṛdhe vīryāya ||

(He) who shines, without fuel, in the midst of the waters, he whom the pious worship at sacrifices,grandson of the waters, give us those sweet waters by which (mixed with the Soma), Indra is elevated toheroism.

याभिः सोमो मोदते हर्षते च कल्याणीभिर्युवतिभिर्न मर्यः । ता अध्वर्यो अपो अच्छा परेहि यदासिञ्चा ओषधीभिः पुनीतात् ॥

yābhiḥ somo modate harṣate ca kalyāṇībhiryuvatibhirna maryaḥ | tā adhvaryo apo acchā parehi yadāsiñcā oṣadhībhiḥ punītāt ||

Those waters with which Soma sports and delights as a man (sports) with elegant young damsels; doyou, priest, approach to obtain them; when you sprinkle them (in libation), purify (them with the filter) along withthe plural nts.

एवेद्यूने युवतयो नमन्त यदीमुशन्नुशतीरेत्यच्छ । सं जानते मनसा सं चिकित्रेऽध्वर्यवो धिषणापश्च देवीः ॥

evedyūne yuvatayo namanta yadīmuśannuśatīretyaccha | saṃ jānate manasā saṃ cikitre'dhvaryavo dhiṣaṇāpaśca devīḥ ||

Verily as young damsels welcome a youth when desiring (them), he comes to them desiring (him), sothe priests and their praise and the divine waters agree in mind and contemplate (their mutual assistance).

यो वो वृताभ्यो अकृणोदु लोकं यो वो मह्या अभिशस्तेरमुञ्चत् । तस्मा इन्द्राय मधुमन्तमूर्मिं देवमादनं प्र हिणोतनापः ॥

yo vo vṛtābhyo akṛṇodu lokaṃ yo vo mahyā abhiśasteramuñcat | tasmā indrāya madhumantamūrmiṃ devamādanaṃ pra hiṇotanāpaḥ ||

Present, waters, the sweet-flavoured god-exhilarating mixture to that Indra who has made an issue foryou when enveloped (by the clouds); who has liberated you from a great calamity.

प्रास्मै हिनोत मधुमन्तमूर्मिं गर्भो यो वः सिन्धवो मध्व उत्सः । घृतपृष्ठमीड्यमध्वरेष्वापो रेवतीः शृणुता हवं मे ॥

prāsmai hinota madhumantamūrmiṃ garbho yo vaḥ sindhavo madhva utsaḥ | ghṛtapṛṣṭhamīḍyamadhvareṣvāpo revatīḥ śṛṇutā havaṃ me ||

Send forth, rivers, the sweet-flavoured beverage to him who is your germ, a well of the sweet (Soma),the Soma which is mixed with butter adorable at sacrifices; hear, opulent waters my invocation.

तं सिन्धवो मत्सरमिन्द्रपानमूर्मिं प्र हेत य उभे इयर्ति । मदच्युतमौशानं नभोजां परि त्रितन्तुं विचरन्तमुत्सम् ॥

taṃ sindhavo matsaramindrapānamūrmiṃ pra heta ya ubhe iyarti | madacyutamauśānaṃ nabhojāṃ pari tritantuṃ vicarantamutsam ||

Send, rivers, (to our sacrifice), that exhilarating wave the Soma of Indra, which sends us both (kinds offruit), exciting exhilaration, desirous (of mixing with the Soma). genitive rated in the firmament, spreading through thethree (worlds), flowing (amidst the vessels of sacrifices), a well (of satisfaction to the gods).

आवर्वृततीरध नु द्विधारा गोषुयुधो न नियवं चरन्तीः । ऋषे जनित्रीर्भुवनस्य पत्नीरपो वन्दस्व सवृधः सयोनीः ॥

āvarvṛtatīradha nu dvidhārā goṣuyudho na niyavaṃ carantīḥ | ṛṣe janitrīrbhuvanasya patnīrapo vandasva savṛdhaḥ sayonīḥ ||

Details:

हिनोता नो अध्वरं देवयज्या हिनोत ब्रह्म सनये धनानाम् । ऋतस्य योगे वि ष्यध्वमूधः श्रुष्टीवरीर्भूतनास्मभ्यमापः ॥

hinotā no adhvaraṃ devayajyā hinota brahma sanaye dhanānām | ṛtasya yoge vi ṣyadhvamūdhaḥ śruṣṭīvarīrbhūtanāsmabhyamāpaḥ ||

Direct our sacrifice to the worship of the gods; direct our adoration to the acquisition of wealth; openthe udder on the occasion of (this) rite; be to us, waters, the givers of felicity.

आपो रेवतीः क्षयथा हि वस्वः क्रतुं च भद्रं बिभृथामृतं च । रायश्च स्थ स्वपत्यस्य पत्नीः सरस्वती तद्गृणते वयो धात् ॥

āpo revatīḥ kṣayathā hi vasvaḥ kratuṃ ca bhadraṃ bibhṛthāmṛtaṃ ca | rāyaśca stha svapatyasya patnīḥ sarasvatī tadgṛṇate vayo dhāt ||

Opulent waters, you rule over riches; you support good fortune, pious rites, and immortality; you arethe protectresses of wealth and of offspring; may Sarasvatī bestow all this opulence on him who praises you.

प्रति यदापो अदृश्रमायतीर्घृतं पयांसि बिभ्रतीर्मधूनि । अध्वर्युभिर्मनसा संविदाना इन्द्राय सोमं सुषुतं भरन्तीः ॥

prati yadāpo adṛśramāyatīrghṛtaṃ payāṃsi bibhratīrmadhūni | adhvaryubhirmanasā saṃvidānā indrāya somaṃ suṣutaṃ bharantīḥ ||

I behold you, waters, coming to (the sacrifice), conveying the butter, the water, the sweet (Soma);conversing mentally with the priests, and bringing the well-effused Soma for Indra.

एमा अग्मन्रेवतीर्जीवधन्या अध्वर्यवः सादयता सखायः । नि बर्हिषि धत्तन सोम्यासोऽपां नप्त्रा संविदानास एनाः ॥

emā agmanrevatīrjīvadhanyā adhvaryavaḥ sādayatā sakhāyaḥ | ni barhiṣi dhattana somyāso'pāṃ naptrā saṃvidānāsa enāḥ ||

These opulent and life-sustaining (waters) have come (to my sacrifice); friendly priests, make them sitdown; plural ce them on the sacred grass, you offerers of the Soma, conversing with the grandson of the waters.

आग्मन्नाप उशतीर्बर्हिरेदं न्यध्वरे असदन्देवयन्तीः । अध्वर्यवः सुनुतेन्द्राय सोममभूदु वः सुशका देवयज्या ॥

āgmannāpa uśatīrbarhiredaṃ nyadhvare asadandevayantīḥ | adhvaryavaḥ sunutendrāya somamabhūdu vaḥ suśakā devayajyā ||

The waters desiring (it) have come to this sacred grass, and wishing to satisfy the gods, have satdown at our sacrifice; express priests, the Soma for Indrra; for you the worship of the gods is easy.
