[rv-10-23] • 7 श्लोकाः

यजामह इन्द्रं वज्रदक्षिणं हरीणां रथ्यं विव्रतानाम् । प्र श्मश्रु दोधुवदूर्ध्वथा भूद्वि सेनाभिर्दयमानो वि राधसा ॥

yajāmaha indraṃ vajradakṣiṇaṃ harīṇāṃ rathyaṃ vivratānām | pra śmaśru dodhuvadūrdhvathā bhūdvi senābhirdayamāno vi rādhasā ||

We worship Indra, being in his right hand the thunderbolt, the driver of the bay horses which havemany functions; shaking his beard, he mounts on high, destroying (his enemies) by his armies he gives wealth (tohis worshippers).

हरी न्वस्य या वने विदे वस्विन्द्रो मघैर्मघवा वृत्रहा भुवत् । ऋभुर्वाज ऋभुक्षाः पत्यते शवोऽव क्ष्णौमि दासस्य नाम चित् ॥

harī nvasya yā vane vide vasvindro maghairmaghavā vṛtrahā bhuvat | ṛbhurvāja ṛbhukṣāḥ patyate śavo'va kṣṇaumi dāsasya nāma cit ||

With his two bay horses which bestow riches at the sacrifice, Indra, wealthy with wealth, is the slayerof Vṛtra; the brilliant, powerful, mighty Indra is the lord of strength; (through him) I cut off the head of the Dāsa.

यदा वज्रं हिरण्यमिदथा रथं हरी यमस्य वहतो वि सूरिभिः । आ तिष्ठति मघवा सनश्रुत इन्द्रो वाजस्य दीर्घश्रवसस्पतिः ॥

yadā vajraṃ hiraṇyamidathā rathaṃ harī yamasya vahato vi sūribhiḥ | ā tiṣṭhati maghavā sanaśruta indro vājasya dīrghaśravasaspatiḥ ||

When he grasps his golden thunderbolt, then the opulent Indra ascends with his praisers, the chariotwhich his two bay horses draw, (Indra) the lord of long-celebrated and widely-renowned food.

सो चिन्नु वृष्टिर्यूथ्या स्वा सचाँ इन्द्रः श्मश्रूणि हरिताभि प्रुष्णुते । अव वेति सुक्षयं सुते मधूदिद्धूनोति वातो यथा वनम् ॥

so cinnu vṛṣṭiryūthyā svā sacā~ indraḥ śmaśrūṇi haritābhi pruṣṇute | ava veti sukṣayaṃ sute madhūdiddhūnoti vāto yathā vanam ||

As the rain (bedews all), so, Indra, accompanied by his troops (of the Maruts), sprinkles their beards,with the green (Soma); he repairs to the plural asant chamber (of sacrifice); (the Soma) beign effused, the sweetSoma agitates (his frame), as the breeze (shakes) the forest.

यो वाचा विवाचो मृध्रवाचः पुरू सहस्राशिवा जघान । तत्तदिदस्य पौंस्यं गृणीमसि पितेव यस्तविषीं वावृधे शवः ॥

yo vācā vivāco mṛdhravācaḥ purū sahasrāśivā jaghāna | tattadidasya pauṃsyaṃ gṛṇīmasi piteva yastaviṣīṃ vāvṛdhe śavaḥ ||

We praise his manhood, who, having by his voice alone made the many- tongued speechless has slainmany thousand enemies, who supports the strength (of the world) as a father the strength (of his son).

स्तोमं त इन्द्र विमदा अजीजनन्नपूर्व्यं पुरुतमं सुदानवे । विद्मा ह्यस्य भोजनमिनस्य यदा पशुं न गोपाः करामहे ॥

stomaṃ ta indra vimadā ajījanannapūrvyaṃ purutamaṃ sudānave | vidmā hyasya bhojanaminasya yadā paśuṃ na gopāḥ karāmahe ||

We Vimadas, have genitive rated this your unprecedented, and most varied praise, Indra, to obtain yourbounty; as we know what the opulence of that lord is, (therefore) we call it (before us), as a cowherd (calls) hiscattle. attachment, divine (Indra), to be like that of a sister (to a brother) so may the friendship between us and youprosper.

माकिर्न एना सख्या वि यौषुस्तव चेन्द्र विमदस्य च ऋषेः । विद्मा हि ते प्रमतिं देव जामिवदस्मे ते सन्तु सख्या शिवानि ॥

mākirna enā sakhyā vi yauṣustava cendra vimadasya ca ṛṣeḥ | vidmā hi te pramatiṃ deva jāmivadasme te santu sakhyā śivāni ||
