[rv-10-20] • 10 श्लोकाः

भद्रं नो अपि वातय मनः ॥

bhadraṃ no api vātaya manaḥ ||

(Agni), manifest towards us a favourable mind.

अग्निमीऴे भुजां यविष्ठं शासा मित्रं दुर्धरीतुम् । यस्य धर्मन्त्स्वरेनीः सपर्यन्ति मातुरूधः ॥

agnimīḻe bhujāṃ yaviṣṭhaṃ śāsā mitraṃ durdharītum | yasya dharmantsvarenīḥ saparyanti māturūdhaḥ ||

I glorify Agni, the youngest of the feeders (on oblations), friendly in counsel, difficult to resist, at whoserite the oblations seek heaven, as (calves) the udder of the mother cow.

यमासा कृपनीऴं भासाकेतुं वर्धयन्ति । भ्राजते श्रेणिदन् ॥

yamāsā kṛpanīḻaṃ bhāsāketuṃ vardhayanti | bhrājate śreṇidan ||

He whom (the worshippers) magnify with their mouth, the sustainer of pious works; whose banner isthe light, he shines, bestowing upon them all their desires.

अर्यो विशां गातुरेति प्र यदानड्दिवो अन्तान् । कविरभ्रं दीद्यानः ॥

aryo viśāṃ gātureti pra yadānaḍdivo antān | kavirabhraṃ dīdyānaḥ ||

The refuge of the people, the mover, who, when he moves, penetrates to the ends of the sky; thesage illumining the firmament.

जुषद्धव्या मानुषस्योर्ध्वस्तस्थावृभ्वा यज्ञे । मिन्वन्त्सद्म पुर एति ॥

juṣaddhavyā mānuṣasyordhvastasthāvṛbhvā yajñe | minvantsadma pura eti ||

Accepting the oblations (offered) at the sacrifice of the worshipper, he blazes up, with a mighty flame;fixing his abode, he advances.

स हि क्षेमो हविर्यज्ञः श्रुष्टीदस्य गातुरेति । अग्निं देवा वाशीमन्तम् ॥

sa hi kṣemo haviryajñaḥ śruṣṭīdasya gātureti | agniṃ devā vāśīmantam ||

Agni is capable (of protecting all men), he is himself the oblation, and the sacrifice; rapidly indeed doeshis spirit move, the gods come to Agni, who bears the praises.

यज्ञासाहं दुव इषेऽग्निं पूर्वस्य शेवस्य । अद्रेः सूनुमायुमाहुः ॥

yajñāsāhaṃ duva iṣe'gniṃ pūrvasya śevasya | adreḥ sūnumāyumāhuḥ ||

Agni, who goes to (summon the gods), the bearer of the oblation, whom men call the sow of the stone;him I desire to worship (for the sake) of supreme felicity.

नरो ये के चास्मदा विश्वेत्ते वाम आ स्युः । अग्निं हविषा वर्धन्तः ॥

naro ye ke cāsmadā viśvette vāma ā syuḥ | agniṃ haviṣā vardhantaḥ ||

May all the men who belong to us be (gratified) in all that is desirable, augmenting Agni with oblationṣ

कृष्णः श्वेतोऽरुषो यामो अस्य ब्रध्न ऋज्र उत शोणो यशस्वान् । हिरण्यरूपं जनिता जजान ॥

kṛṣṇaḥ śveto'ruṣo yāmo asya bradhna ṛjra uta śoṇo yaśasvān | hiraṇyarūpaṃ janitā jajāna ||

His chariot is black, white, red, tawny, dark red, crimson, and glorious; the progenitor of all has givenhim a chariot of gold.

एवा ते अग्ने विमदो मनीषामूर्जो नपादमृतेभिः सजोषाः । गिर आ वक्षत्सुमतीरियान इषमूर्जं सुक्षितिं विश्वमाभाः ॥

evā te agne vimado manīṣāmūrjo napādamṛtebhiḥ sajoṣāḥ | gira ā vakṣatsumatīriyāna iṣamūrjaṃ sukṣitiṃ viśvamābhāḥ ||

Grandson of strength, Agni, who are gratified by the ambrosial (Viands), Vimada, (desirous of) wisdom,has recited your praises; do you, approaching with a kind intention, bestow upon us food, strength, and aprosperous abode.
