[rv-10-2] • 7 श्लोकाः

पिप्रीहि देवाँ उशतो यविष्ठ विद्वाँ ऋतूँॠतुपते यजेह । ये दैव्या ऋत्विजस्तेभिरग्ने त्वं होतॄणामस्यायजिष्ठः ॥

piprīhi devā~ uśato yaviṣṭha vidvā~ ṛtū~ṝtupate yajeha | ye daivyā ṛtvijastebhiragne tvaṃ hotṝṇāmasyāyajiṣṭhaḥ ||

Agni, youngest (of the deities), propitiate the desiring gods; lord of seasons, cognizant of seasons,here offer worship; worship with those who are the priests of the celestials; among the ministrant priests you arethe best offerer.

वेषि होत्रमुत पोत्रं जनानां मन्धातासि द्रविणोदा ऋतावा । स्वाहा वयं कृणवामा हवींषि देवो देवान्यजत्वग्निरर्हन् ॥

veṣi hotramuta potraṃ janānāṃ mandhātāsi draviṇodā ṛtāvā | svāhā vayaṃ kṛṇavāmā havīṃṣi devo devānyajatvagnirarhan ||

Whether, Agni, you prefer the office of hotā or potā among men, you are wise, the giver of wealth,the observer of truth, let us offer the oblations with the (sacred) svāhā, and may the most excellent and divineAgni present them to the gods.

आ देवानामपि पन्थामगन्म यच्छक्नवाम तदनु प्रवोऴ्हुम् । अग्निर्विद्वान्त्स यजात्सेदु होता सो अध्वरान्त्स ऋतून्कल्पयाति ॥

ā devānāmapi panthāmaganma yacchaknavāma tadanu pravoḻhum | agnirvidvāntsa yajātsedu hotā so adhvarāntsa ṛtūnkalpayāti ||

May we pursue the path that leads to the gods to convey that (worship) which we may be able (tooffer). May that wise Agni minister, for he verily is the ministrant priest, and let him prescribe the ceremonies andthe seasons.

यद्वो वयं प्रमिनाम व्रतानि विदुषां देवा अविदुष्टरासः । अग्निष्टद्विश्वमा पृणाति विद्वान्येभिर्देवाँ ऋतुभिः कल्पयाति ॥

yadvo vayaṃ pramināma vratāni viduṣāṃ devā aviduṣṭarāsaḥ | agniṣṭadviśvamā pṛṇāti vidvānyebhirdevā~ ṛtubhiḥ kalpayāti ||

O gods, when we who are most ignorant neglect the offices addressed to you who are wise, may thewise Agni complete the whole by (appointing) those seasons by which he regulates the worship of the godṣ

यत्पाकत्रा मनसा दीनदक्षा न यज्ञस्य मन्वते मर्त्यासः । अग्निष्टद्धोता क्रतुविद्विजानन्यजिष्ठो देवाँ ऋतुशो यजाति ॥

yatpākatrā manasā dīnadakṣā na yajñasya manvate martyāsaḥ | agniṣṭaddhotā kratuvidvijānanyajiṣṭho devā~ ṛtuśo yajāti ||

Since men of feeble energies, with mind yet immature, are unacquainted with (the ritual of) thesacrifice, may Agni, the invoker (of the gods), the skilled in rites, well-knowing (what is to be done), the bestofferer, offer worship according to the fit season to the gods.

विश्वेषां ह्यध्वराणामनीकं चित्रं केतुं जनिता त्वा जजान । स आ यजस्व नृवतीरनु क्षा स्पार्हा इषः क्षुमतीर्विश्वजन्याः ॥

viśveṣāṃ hyadhvarāṇāmanīkaṃ citraṃ ketuṃ janitā tvā jajāna | sa ā yajasva nṛvatīranu kṣā spārhā iṣaḥ kṣumatīrviśvajanyāḥ ||

The progenitor has engendered you the chief of all sacrifices, variegated, illuminating (all); do youoffer (to the gods) the desirable all- sustaining praise-accompanied viands growing upon man-occupied earth.

यं त्वा द्यावापृथिवी यं त्वापस्त्वष्टा यं त्वा सुजनिमा जजान । पन्थामनु प्रविद्वान्पितृयाणं द्युमदग्ने समिधानो वि भाहि ॥

yaṃ tvā dyāvāpṛthivī yaṃ tvāpastvaṣṭā yaṃ tvā sujanimā jajāna | panthāmanu pravidvānpitṛyāṇaṃ dyumadagne samidhāno vi bhāhi ||

Do you, Agni, whom the earth and heaven, whom the waters, whom Tvaṣṭā, the glorious creator,engendered, who are cognizant of the path, the road of the Pitṛs, shine brilliantly, being kindled.
