[rv-10-142] • 8 श्लोकाः

अयमग्ने जरिता त्वे अभूदपि सहसः सूनो नह्यन्यदस्त्याप्यम् । भद्रं हि शर्म त्रिवरूथमस्ति त आरे हिंसानामप दिद्युमा कृधि ॥

ayamagne jaritā tve abhūdapi sahasaḥ sūno nahyanyadastyāpyam | bhadraṃ hi śarma trivarūthamasti ta āre hiṃsānāmapa didyumā kṛdhi ||

This person n, Agni, was your praiser, for there is nothing else attainable, O son of strength; holy is thehappiness derived from you, a triple defence; remove far from us, who are susceptible of harm, your scorchingflame.

प्रवत्ते अग्ने जनिमा पितूयतः साचीव विश्वा भुवना न्यृञ्जसे । प्र सप्तयः प्र सनिषन्त नो धियः पुरश्चरन्ति पशुपा इव त्मना ॥

pravatte agne janimā pitūyataḥ sācīva viśvā bhuvanā nyṛñjase | pra saptayaḥ pra saniṣanta no dhiyaḥ puraścaranti paśupā iva tmanā ||

Exalted is the birth of you, Agni, who are desirous of (sacrificial) food; you preside like a councillorover all created beings; our praises flowing smoothly proceed to you, as herdsmen of their own will (go slowly)before (their flocks).

उत वा उ परि वृणक्षि बप्सद्बहोरग्न उलपस्य स्वधावः । उत खिल्या उर्वराणां भवन्ति मा ते हेतिं तविषीं चुक्रुधाम ॥

uta vā u pari vṛṇakṣi bapsadbahoragna ulapasya svadhāvaḥ | uta khilyā urvarāṇāṃ bhavanti mā te hetiṃ taviṣīṃ cukrudhāma ||

Blazing Agni, you destroy many a shrub, as you burn; and (the sites) of the tilled fields are laid waste,may we never rouse to anger your terrible flame.

यदुद्वतो निवतो यासि बप्सत्पृथगेषि प्रगर्धिनीव सेना । यदा ते वातो अनुवाति शोचिर्वप्तेव श्मश्रु वपसि प्र भूम ॥

yadudvato nivato yāsi bapsatpṛthageṣi pragardhinīva senā | yadā te vāto anuvāti śocirvapteva śmaśru vapasi pra bhūma ||

When you move burning above and burning below, you scatter yourself like a devastating host; whenthe wind fans your flame, you shave the earth as a barber shaves a beard.

प्रत्यस्य श्रेणयो ददृश्र एकं नियानं बहवो रथासः । बाहू यदग्ने अनुमर्मृजानो न्यङ्ङुत्तानामन्वेषि भूमिम् ॥

pratyasya śreṇayo dadṛśra ekaṃ niyānaṃ bahavo rathāsaḥ | bāhū yadagne anumarmṛjāno nyaṅṅuttānāmanveṣi bhūmim ||

His lines (of flame) are visible, like one array of many chariots, when clearing away (the forests) withyour arms (of flame) you march, Agni, over the prostrate earth.

उत्ते शुष्मा जिहतामुत्ते अर्चिरुत्ते अग्ने शशमानस्य वाजाः । उच्छ्वञ्चस्व नि नम वर्धमान आ त्वाद्य विश्वे वसवः सदन्तु ॥

utte śuṣmā jihatāmutte arcirutte agne śaśamānasya vājāḥ | ucchvañcasva ni nama vardhamāna ā tvādya viśve vasavaḥ sadantu ||

May your withering flames, Agni, arise; may your light (arise), and the swift movements of you whenyou are praised; rise up, stoop down, increasing in might; may all the Vasus this day attend upon you.

अपामिदं न्ययनं समुद्रस्य निवेशनम् । अन्यं कृणुष्वेतः पन्थां तेन याहि वशाँ अनु ॥

apāmidaṃ nyayanaṃ samudrasya niveśanam | anyaṃ kṛṇuṣvetaḥ panthāṃ tena yāhi vaśā~ anu ||

This is the abode of the waters, the dwelling of the ocean; pursue, Agni, a different path from this; goby this (path) according to your plural asure.

आयने ते परायणे दूर्वा रोहन्तु पुष्पिणीः । ह्रदाश्च पुण्डरीकाणि समुद्रस्य गृहा इमे ॥

āyane te parāyaṇe dūrvā rohantu puṣpiṇīḥ | hradāśca puṇḍarīkāṇi samudrasya gṛhā ime ||

Both at your arrival, Agni, and at your departure, may the flowering dūrva grasses spring up; maylakes (be formed) and lotuses (therein); may these be the dwellings of the ocean.
