[rv-10-109] • 7 श्लोकाः

तेऽवदन्प्रथमा ब्रह्मकिल्बिषेऽकूपारः सलिलो मातरिश्वा । वीऴुहरास्तप उग्रो मयोभूरापो देवीः प्रथमजा ऋतेन ॥

te'vadanprathamā brahmakilbiṣe'kūpāraḥ salilo mātariśvā | vīḻuharāstapa ugro mayobhūrāpo devīḥ prathamajā ṛtena ||

These spoke first about Brahmā's sin, the boundless (sun), the water- god (Varuṇa), the wind-god(Vāyu), the fierce, wide-consuming fire, the source of happiness, (Soma), the divine waters, the first-born sonsof the truthful (Brahmā).

सोमो राजा प्रथमो ब्रह्मजायां पुनः प्रायच्छदहृणीयमानः । अन्वर्तिता वरुणो मित्र आसीदग्निर्होता हस्तगृह्या निनाय ॥

somo rājā prathamo brahmajāyāṃ punaḥ prāyacchadahṛṇīyamānaḥ | anvartitā varuṇo mitra āsīdagnirhotā hastagṛhyā nināya ||

First, the royal Soma, without being ashamed, restored Brahmā's wife (to Bṛhaspati), Varuṇa wasthe inviter, and Mitra, Agni as the ministrant priest taking her by the hand, led her (to her husband).

हस्तेनैव ग्राह्य आधिरस्या ब्रह्मजायेयमिति चेदवोचन् । न दूताय प्रह्ये तस्थ एषा तथा राष्ट्रं गुपितं क्षत्रियस्य ॥

hastenaiva grāhya ādhirasyā brahmajāyeyamiti cedavocan | na dūtāya prahye tastha eṣā tathā rāṣṭraṃ gupitaṃ kṣatriyasya ||

And (the gods) said (to Bṛhaspati), "This plural dge of hers is to be taken by the hand, this is the wife ofBrahmā; she has not made herself known to the messenger sent (to seek her), so is the kingdom of a kṣatriyaprotected".

देवा एतस्यामवदन्त पूर्वे सप्तऋषयस्तपसे ये निषेदुः । भीमा जाया ब्राह्मणस्योपनीता दुर्धां दधाति परमे व्योमन् ॥

devā etasyāmavadanta pūrve saptaṛṣayastapase ye niṣeduḥ | bhīmā jāyā brāhmaṇasyopanītā durdhāṃ dadhāti parame vyoman ||

The ancient deities spoke about her, the seven Ṛṣis who were engaged in penance. The terrible wifeof Brahma has been brought back (to her husband); (penance) elevates into the highest heaven.

ब्रह्मचारी चरति वेविषद्विषः स देवानां भवत्येकमङ्गम् । तेन जायामन्वविन्दद्बृहस्पतिः सोमेन नीतां जुह्वं न देवाः ॥

brahmacārī carati veviṣadviṣaḥ sa devānāṃ bhavatyekamaṅgam | tena jāyāmanvavindadbṛhaspatiḥ somena nītāṃ juhvaṃ na devāḥ ||

He leads the life of a Brahmacārin, even adoring all the gods; he becomes a portion of the gods;therefore, Bṛhaspati obtained his wife (formerly) brought him by Soma, as the gods receive an offering.

पुनर्वै देवा अददुः पुनर्मनुष्या उत । राजानः सत्यं कृण्वाना ब्रह्मजायां पुनर्ददुः ॥

punarvai devā adaduḥ punarmanuṣyā uta | rājānaḥ satyaṃ kṛṇvānā brahmajāyāṃ punardaduḥ ||

The gods gave her back again, men also gave her back, and kings confirming (the gift) gaveBrahmā's wife back again.

पुनर्दाय ब्रह्मजायां कृत्वी देवैर्निकिल्बिषम् । ऊर्जं पृथिव्या भक्त्वायोरुगायमुपासते ॥

punardāya brahmajāyāṃ kṛtvī devairnikilbiṣam | ūrjaṃ pṛthivyā bhaktvāyorugāyamupāsate ||

The gods having given back Brahmā's wife, and made her free from sin, having partaken of the foodof the earth, sat down to (the sacrifice of) the widely hymned Bṛhaspati.
