[rv-10-105] • 11 श्लोकाः

कदा वसो स्तोत्रं हर्यत आव श्मशा रुधद्वाः । दीर्घं सुतं वाताप्याय ॥

kadā vaso stotraṃ haryata āva śmaśā rudhadvāḥ | dīrghaṃ sutaṃ vātāpyāya ||

When, Vasu, (will our) praise (reach) you desiring it? (when) will he, (like) a dam, obstruct and letloose the long-protracted for the sake of wind- driven (rain)?

हरी यस्य सुयुजा विव्रता वेरर्वन्तानु शेपा । उभा रजी न केशिना पतिर्दन् ॥

harī yasya suyujā vivratā verarvantānu śepā | ubhā rajī na keśinā patirdan ||

(O Indra), to whom belong the two bay horses, well-trained, active, swift, courageous, brilliant as thetwo worlds, do you, who are lord (of bay horses), bestowing (wealth upon us), desire (our praises).

अप योरिन्द्रः पापज आ मर्तो न शश्रमाणो बिभीवान् । शुभे यद्युयुजे तविषीवान् ॥

apa yorindraḥ pāpaja ā marto na śaśramāṇo bibhīvān | śubhe yadyuyuje taviṣīvān ||

Indra repelled (him), being like a mortal tired and frightened in (the combat with) the offspring ofiniquity (Vṛtra), when being associated with the forces (of the Maruts), he has been prepared for splendour.

सचायोरिन्द्रश्चर्कृष आँ उपानसः सपर्यन् । नदयोर्विव्रतयोः शूर इन्द्रः ॥

sacāyorindraścarkṛṣa ā~ upānasaḥ saparyan | nadayorvivratayoḥ śūra indraḥ ||

Indra, the friend of man, for his exhilaration, comes mounted in his chariot, granting him favour, thehero Indra, (the driver) of the two neighing and prancing (steeds).

अधि यस्तस्थौ केशवन्ता व्यचस्वन्ता न पुष्ट्यै । वनोति शिप्राभ्यां शिप्रिणीवान् ॥

adhi yastasthau keśavantā vyacasvantā na puṣṭyai | vanoti śiprābhyāṃ śipriṇīvān ||

He who has mounted the two long-maned and all pervading steeds for the nourishment (of thesacrificer) asks (for the Soma) with his two jaws, possessing mighty jaws.

प्रास्तौदृष्वौजा ऋष्वेभिस्ततक्ष शूरः शवसा । ऋभुर्न क्रतुभिर्मातरिश्वा ॥

prāstaudṛṣvaujā ṛṣvebhistatakṣa śūraḥ śavasā | ṛbhurna kratubhirmātariśvā ||

Of glorious strength (associated) with the glorious (maruts) he was renowned; the hero abiding in thefirmament wrought with his strength as the Ṛbhus with their wonderful works.

वज्रं यश्चक्रे सुहनाय दस्यवे हिरीमशो हिरीमान् । अरुतहनुरद्भुतं न रजः ॥

vajraṃ yaścakre suhanāya dasyave hirīmaśo hirīmān | arutahanuradbhutaṃ na rajaḥ ||

The golden-bearded (Indra), lord of bay horses, who made the thunderbolt for the easy destruction ofthe Dasyu, who has irresistible jaws like the vast firmament.

अव नो वृजिना शिशीह्यृचा वनेमानृचः । नाब्रह्मा यज्ञ ऋधग्जोषति त्वे ॥

ava no vṛjinā śiśīhyṛcā vanemānṛcaḥ | nābrahmā yajña ṛdhagjoṣati tve ||

Mitigate, Indra, our iniquities, may we, by our hymns, extermiante those who offer no hymns. Thesacrifice, unaccompanied by prayer, distinct (from that which is performed with prayer), is not grateful to you. in the hall of sacrifice, accompanied by the sacrifice, you, the friend of man, (ascend) the vessel of your glory.

ऊर्ध्वा यत्ते त्रेतिनी भूद्यज्ञस्य धूर्षु सद्मन् । सजूर्नावं स्वयशसं सचायोः ॥

ūrdhvā yatte tretinī bhūdyajñasya dhūrṣu sadman | sajūrnāvaṃ svayaśasaṃ sacāyoḥ ||

Details:

श्रिये ते पृश्निरुपसेचनी भूच्छ्रिये दर्विररेपाः । यया स्वे पात्रे सिञ्चस उत् ॥

śriye te pṛśnirupasecanī bhūcchriye darvirarepāḥ | yayā sve pātre siñcasa ut ||

May the spotted cow yield milk for mixing with your (Soma), may the ladle for the mixture wherewithyou pour it into your own vessel be free from defect.

शतं वा यदसुर्य प्रति त्वा सुमित्र इत्थास्तौद्दुर्मित्र इत्थास्तौत् । आवो यद्दस्युहत्ये कुत्सपुत्रं प्रावो यद्दस्युहत्ये कुत्सवत्सम् ॥

śataṃ vā yadasurya prati tvā sumitra itthāstauddurmitra itthāstaut | āvo yaddasyuhatye kutsaputraṃ prāvo yaddasyuhatye kutsavatsam ||

When, you, mighty (Indra, gave) hundredfold (riches), Sumitra praised you thus, Durmitra praised youthus, when at the slaughter of the Dasyus you did protect Kutsa's son, when at the slaughter of the Dasyus youprotected Kutsa's darling.
