[rv-10-1] • 7 श्लोकाः

अग्रे बृहन्नुषसामूर्ध्वो अस्थान्निर्जगन्वान्तमसो ज्योतिषागात् । अग्निर्भानुना रुशता स्वङ्ग आ जातो विश्वा सद्मान्यप्राः ॥

agre bṛhannuṣasāmūrdhvo asthānnirjaganvāntamaso jyotiṣāgāt | agnirbhānunā ruśatā svaṅga ā jāto viśvā sadmānyaprāḥ ||

The great fire from beginning of dawn has sprung aloft, and coming forth from the darkness has comewith radiance. Agni, the bright-bodied, as soon as born, fills all dwellings with shining light.

स जातो गर्भो असि रोदस्योरग्ने चारुर्विभृत ओषधीषु । चित्रः शिशुः परि तमांस्यक्तून्प्र मातृभ्यो अधि कनिक्रदद्गाः ॥

sa jāto garbho asi rodasyoragne cārurvibhṛta oṣadhīṣu | citraḥ śiśuḥ pari tamāṃsyaktūnpra mātṛbhyo adhi kanikradadgāḥ ||

When born, you, O Agni, are the embryo of heaven and earth, beautiful, borne about in the plural nts;variegated, infantine, you disperse the noctural glooms; you issue roaring loudly from the maternal (sources).

विष्णुरित्था परममस्य विद्वाञ्जातो बृहन्नभि पाति तृतीयम् । आसा यदस्य पयो अक्रत स्वं सचेतसो अभ्यर्चन्त्यत्र ॥

viṣṇuritthā paramamasya vidvāñjāto bṛhannabhi pāti tṛtīyam | āsā yadasya payo akrata svaṃ sacetaso abhyarcantyatra ||

May he, who as soon as manifested is vast and wise, and thus (universally) pervading, defend (me),his third (manifestation); and when (the worshippers) ask with their mouths for his own water, animated by onepurpose, they praise him in this world.

अत उ त्वा पितुभृतो जनित्रीरन्नावृधं प्रति चरन्त्यन्नैः । ता ईं प्रत्येषि पुनरन्यरूपा असि त्वं विक्षु मानुषीषु होता ॥

ata u tvā pitubhṛto janitrīrannāvṛdhaṃ prati carantyannaiḥ | tā īṃ pratyeṣi punaranyarūpā asi tvaṃ vikṣu mānuṣīṣu hotā ||

Therefore, the genitive trices (of all things, the herbs), the cherishers (of all) with food, wait on you whoare the augmenter of food, with (sacrificial) viands; you visit them again, when they have assumed other forms,you among human beings the invoker (of the gods).

होतारं चित्ररथमध्वरस्य यज्ञस्ययज्ञस्य केतुं रुशन्तम् । प्रत्यर्धिं देवस्यदेवस्य मह्ना श्रिया त्वग्निमतिथिं जनानाम् ॥

hotāraṃ citrarathamadhvarasya yajñasyayajñasya ketuṃ ruśantam | pratyardhiṃ devasyadevasya mahnā śriyā tvagnimatithiṃ janānām ||

(We worship) Agni for prosperity, you, who are the invoker of the gods, the many-colouredconveyance of the saacrifice, the brilliant banner of every offering, the surpasser of every other deity in might, theguest of men.

स तु वस्त्राण्यध पेशनानि वसानो अग्निर्नाभा पृथिव्याः । अरुषो जातः पद इऴायाः पुरोहितो राजन्यक्षीह देवान् ॥

sa tu vastrāṇyadha peśanāni vasāno agnirnābhā pṛthivyāḥ | aruṣo jātaḥ pada iḻāyāḥ purohito rājanyakṣīha devān ||

Arrayed in splendid garments, that Agni (abides) on the navel of the earth; do you, royal (Agni), whoare radiant, born on the foot-mark of Iḷā, offer worship here as Purohita to the gods.

आ हि द्यावापृथिवी अग्न उभे सदा पुत्रो न मातरा ततन्थ । प्र याह्यच्छोशतो यविष्ठाथा वह सहस्येह देवान् ॥

ā hi dyāvāpṛthivī agna ubhe sadā putro na mātarā tatantha | pra yāhyacchośato yaviṣṭhāthā vaha sahasyeha devān ||

You have, ever sustained, Agni, both heaven and earth, as a son (supports) his parents; come,youngest (of the gods), to the presence of those desiring (you); son of strength, bring here the gods.
