[rv-1-89] • 10 श्लोकाः

आ नो भद्राः क्रतवो यन्तु विश्वतोऽदब्धासो अपरीतास उद्भिदः । देवा नो यथा सदमिद्वृधे असन्नप्रायुवो रक्षितारो दिवेदिवे ॥

ā no bhadrāḥ kratavo yantu viśvato'dabdhāso aparītāsa udbhidaḥ | devā no yathā sadamidvṛdhe asannaprāyuvo rakṣitāro divedive ||

May auspicious works, unmolested, unimpeded, and subversive (of foes), come to us from every quarter; may the gods, turning not away from us, but granting us protection day by day, be ever with us for our advancement.

देवानां भद्रा सुमतिॠजूयतां देवानां रातिरभि नो नि वर्तताम् । देवानां सख्यमुप सेदिमा वयं देवा न आयुः प्र तिरन्तु जीवसे ॥

devānāṃ bhadrā sumatiṝjūyatāṃ devānāṃ rātirabhi no ni vartatām | devānāṃ sakhyamupa sedimā vayaṃ devā na āyuḥ pra tirantu jīvase ||

May the benevolent favour of the gods (be ours); may the bounty of the gods, ever approving of the upright, light upon us; may we obtain the friendship of the gods, and may the gods extend our days to longevity.

तान्पूर्वया निविदा हूमहे वयं भगं मित्रमदितिं दक्षमस्रिधम् । अर्यमणं वरुणं सोममश्विना सरस्वती नः सुभगा मयस्करत् ॥

tānpūrvayā nividā hūmahe vayaṃ bhagaṃ mitramaditiṃ dakṣamasridham | aryamaṇaṃ varuṇaṃ somamaśvinā sarasvatī naḥ subhagā mayaskarat ||

We invoke them with an ancient text, Bhaga, Mitra, Aditi, Dakṣa, Asridh, Aryaman, Varuṇa, Soma, the Aśvins; and may the gracious Sarasvatī grant us happiness.

तन्नो वातो मयोभु वातु भेषजं तन्माता पृथिवी तत्पिता द्यौः । तद्ग्रावाणः सोमसुतो मयोभुवस्तदश्विना शृणुतं धिष्ण्या युवम् ॥

tanno vāto mayobhu vātu bheṣajaṃ tanmātā pṛthivī tatpitā dyauḥ | tadgrāvāṇaḥ somasuto mayobhuvastadaśvinā śṛṇutaṃ dhiṣṇyā yuvam ||

May the wind waft to us the grateful medicament; may mother earth, may father heaven, (convey) it (to us); may the stones that express Soma, and are productive of plural asure (bring) it (to us); Aśvins, who are to be meditated upon, hear (our submission).

तमीशानं जगतस्तस्थुषस्पतिं धियंजिन्वमवसे हूमहे वयम् । पूषा नो यथा वेदसामसद्वृधे रक्षिता पायुरदब्धः स्वस्तये ॥

tamīśānaṃ jagatastasthuṣaspatiṃ dhiyaṃjinvamavase hūmahe vayam | pūṣā no yathā vedasāmasadvṛdhe rakṣitā pāyuradabdhaḥ svastaye ||

We invoke that lord of living beings, that protector of things immoveable, Indra, who is to be propitiated by pious rites, for our protection; as Pūṣan has ever been our defender for the increase of our riches, so may he (continue) the unmolested guardian of our welfare.

स्वस्ति न इन्द्रो वृद्धश्रवाः स्वस्ति नः पूषा विश्ववेदाः । स्वस्ति नस्तार्क्ष्यो अरिष्टनेमिः स्वस्ति नो बृहस्पतिर्दधातु ॥

svasti na indro vṛddhaśravāḥ svasti naḥ pūṣā viśvavedāḥ | svasti nastārkṣyo ariṣṭanemiḥ svasti no bṛhaspatirdadhātu ||

May Indra, who listens to much praise, guard our welfare; may Pūṣan, who knows all things, guard our welfare; may Tārkṣya, with unblemished weapons, guard our welfare.

पृषदश्वा मरुतः पृश्निमातरः शुभंयावानो विदथेषु जग्मयः । अग्निजिह्वा मनवः सूरचक्षसो विश्वे नो देवा अवसा गमन्निह ॥

pṛṣadaśvā marutaḥ pṛśnimātaraḥ śubhaṃyāvāno vidatheṣu jagmayaḥ | agnijihvā manavaḥ sūracakṣaso viśve no devā avasā gamanniha ||

May the Maruts, whose coursers are spotted deer, who are the sons of Pṛśni, gracefully-moving frequenters of sacrifices, (seated) on the tongue of Agni, regarders (of all), and radiant as the sun, may all the gods come hither for our preservation.

भद्रं कर्णेभिः शृणुयाम देवा भद्रं पश्येमाक्षभिर्यजत्राः । स्थिरैरङ्गैस्तुष्टुवांसस्तनूभिर्व्यशेम देवहितं यदायुः ॥

bhadraṃ karṇebhiḥ śṛṇuyāma devā bhadraṃ paśyemākṣabhiryajatrāḥ | sthirairaṅgaistuṣṭuvāṃsastanūbhirvyaśema devahitaṃ yadāyuḥ ||

Let us hear, gods, with our ears, what is good; objects of sacrifice, let us see with our eyes what is good; let us, engaged in your praises, enjoy, with firm limb and (sound) bodies, the term of life granted by the gods.

शतमिन्नु शरदो अन्ति देवा यत्रा नश्चक्रा जरसं तनूनाम् । पुत्रासो यत्र पितरो भवन्ति मा नो मध्या रीरिषतायुर्गन्तोः ॥

śataminnu śarado anti devā yatrā naścakrā jarasaṃ tanūnām | putrāso yatra pitaro bhavanti mā no madhyā rīriṣatāyurgantoḥ ||

Since a hundred years were appointed (for the life of man), interpose not, gods, in the midst of our passing existence, by inflicting infirmity in our bodies so that our sons become our sires (i.e. let us not become so feeble and firm as to be, infants and to require the paternal care of our own sons].

अदितिर्द्यौरदितिरन्तरिक्षमदितिर्माता स पिता स पुत्रः । विश्वे देवा अदितिः पञ्च जना अदितिर्जातमदितिर्जनित्वम् ॥

aditirdyauraditirantarikṣamaditirmātā sa pitā sa putraḥ | viśve devā aditiḥ pañca janā aditirjātamaditirjanitvam ||

Aditi is heaven; Aditi is the firmament; Aditi is mother, father and son; Aditi is all the gods; Aditi is the five classes of people; Aditi is genitive ration and birth.
