ऋग्वेद 1.76 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

का त उपेतिर्मनसो वराय भुवदग्ने शंतमा का मनीषा । को वा यज्ञैः परि दक्षं त आप केन वा ते मनसा दाशेम ॥

kā ta upetirmanaso varāya bhuvadagne śaṃtamā kā manīṣā | ko vā yajñaiḥ pari dakṣaṃ ta āpa kena vā te manasā dāśema ||

What approximation of the mind, Agni, to you, can be accomplished for our good; what can a hundred encomiums (effect); who, by sacrifices has obtained your might; with what intent may we offer you (oblations)?

एह्यग्न इह होता नि षीदादब्धः सु पुरएता भवा नः । अवतां त्वा रोदसी विश्वमिन्वे यजा महे सौमनसाय देवान् ॥

ehyagna iha hotā ni ṣīdādabdhaḥ su puraetā bhavā naḥ | avatāṃ tvā rodasī viśvaminve yajā mahe saumanasāya devān ||

Come, Agni, hither; invoker (of the gods), sit down; be our preceder; for you are irresistible; may the all-expansive heaven and earth defend you, that you may worship the gods to their great satisfaction.

प्र सु विश्वान्रक्षसो धक्ष्यग्ने भवा यज्ञानामभिशस्तिपावा । अथा वह सोमपतिं हरिभ्यामातिथ्यमस्मै चकृमा सुदाव्ने ॥

pra su viśvānrakṣaso dhakṣyagne bhavā yajñānāmabhiśastipāvā | athā vaha somapatiṃ haribhyāmātithyamasmai cakṛmā sudāvne ||

Utterly consume all the rākṣasas, Agni, and be the protector of our sacrifices against interruption. Bring hither the guardian of Soma, (Indra), with his steeds, that we may show hospitality to the giver of food.

प्रजावता वचसा वह्निरासा च हुवे नि च सत्सीह देवैः । वेषि होत्रमुत पोत्रं यजत्र बोधि प्रयन्तर्जनितर्वसूनाम् ॥

prajāvatā vacasā vahnirāsā ca huve ni ca satsīha devaiḥ | veṣi hotramuta potraṃ yajatra bodhi prayantarjanitarvasūnām ||

I invoke (you), who are the conveyor (of oblations), with your flames, with a hymn productive of progeny (to the worshipper); sit down here with the gods, and do you, who are deserving of worship, discharge the office of Hotā, or of Potā and awaken us, you who are the depository and genitive rator of riches.

यथा विप्रस्य मनुषो हविर्भिर्देवाँ अयजः कविभिः कविः सन् । एवा होतः सत्यतर त्वमद्याग्ने मन्द्रया जुह्वा यजस्व ॥

yathā viprasya manuṣo havirbhirdevā~ ayajaḥ kavibhiḥ kaviḥ san | evā hotaḥ satyatara tvamadyāgne mandrayā juhvā yajasva ||

As at the sacrifice of the holy Manu, you, a sage amongst sages, did worship the gods with oblations, so also, Agni, veracious invoker of the gods, do you today (present the oblations), with an exhilarating ladle.
