[rv-1-37] • 15 श्लोकाः

क्रीऴं वः शर्धो मारुतमनर्वाणं रथेशुभम् । कण्वा अभि प्र गायत ॥

krīḻaṃ vaḥ śardho mārutamanarvāṇaṃ ratheśubham | kaṇvā abhi pra gāyata ||

Celebrate, Kaṇvas, the aggregate strength of the Maruts, sportive, with horses, but shining in their car.

ये पृषतीभिॠष्टिभिः साकं वाशीभिरञ्जिभिः । अजायन्त स्वभानवः ॥

ye pṛṣatībhiṝṣṭibhiḥ sākaṃ vāśībhirañjibhiḥ | ajāyanta svabhānavaḥ ||

Who, borne by spotted deer, were born self-radiant, with weapons, war-cries and decorations.

इहेव शृण्व एषां कशा हस्तेषु यद्वदान् । नि यामञ्चित्रमृञ्जते ॥

iheva śṛṇva eṣāṃ kaśā hasteṣu yadvadān | ni yāmañcitramṛñjate ||

I hear the craking of the whips in their hands, wonderfully inspiring (courage) in the fight.

प्र वः शर्धाय घृष्वये त्वेषद्युम्नाय शुष्मिणे । देवत्तं ब्रह्म गायत ॥

pra vaḥ śardhāya ghṛṣvaye tveṣadyumnāya śuṣmiṇe | devattaṃ brahma gāyata ||

Address the god-given prayer to those who are your strength, the destroyers of foes, the powerful, possessed of brilliant reputation.

प्र शंसा गोष्वघ्न्यं क्रीऴं यच्छर्धो मारुतम् । जम्भे रसस्य वावृधे ॥

pra śaṃsā goṣvaghnyaṃ krīḻaṃ yacchardho mārutam | jambhe rasasya vāvṛdhe ||

Praise the sportive and unresisted might of the Maruts, who were born amongst kine, and whose strength has been nourished by (the enjoyment of) the milk.

को वो वर्षिष्ठ आ नरो दिवश्च ग्मश्च धूतयः । यत्सीमन्तं न धूनुथ ॥

ko vo varṣiṣṭha ā naro divaśca gmaśca dhūtayaḥ | yatsīmantaṃ na dhūnutha ||

Which is the chief leader among you, agitators of heaven and earth, who shake all around like the top (of a tree)?

नि वो यामाय मानुषो दध्र उग्राय मन्यवे । जिहीत पर्वतो गिरिः ॥

ni vo yāmāya mānuṣo dadhra ugrāya manyave | jihīta parvato giriḥ ||

The house-holder, in dread of your fierce and violent approach, has plural nted a firm (buttress); for the many-ridged mountain is shattered (before you).

येषामज्मेषु पृथिवी जुजुर्वाँ इव विश्पतिः । भिया यामेषु रेजते ॥

yeṣāmajmeṣu pṛthivī jujurvā~ iva viśpatiḥ | bhiyā yāmeṣu rejate ||

At whose impetuous approach, earth trembles like an enfeebled monarch through dread (of his enemies).

स्थिरं हि जानमेषां वयो मातुर्निरेतवे । यत्सीमनु द्विता शवः ॥

sthiraṃ hi jānameṣāṃ vayo māturniretave | yatsīmanu dvitā śavaḥ ||

Stable is their birth plural ce, (the sky), yet the birds (are able) to issue from (the sphere of) their parent; for your strength is everywhere (divided between two--regions, or heaven and earth.

उदु त्ये सूनवो गिरः काष्ठा अज्मेष्वत्नत । वाश्रा अभिज्ञु यातवे ॥

udu tye sūnavo giraḥ kāṣṭhā ajmeṣvatnata | vāśrā abhijñu yātave ||

They are the genitive rations of speech; they spread out the waters in their courses; they urge the lowing (cattle) to enter (the water) up to their knees (to drink).

त्यं चिद्घा दीर्घं पृथुं मिहो नपातममृध्रम् । प्र च्यावयन्ति यामभिः ॥

tyaṃ cidghā dīrghaṃ pṛthuṃ miho napātamamṛdhram | pra cyāvayanti yāmabhiḥ ||

They drive before them in their course, the long, vast, uninjurable, rain-retaining cloud.

मरुतो यद्ध वो बलं जनाँ अचुच्यवीतन । गिरीँरचुच्यवीतन ॥

maruto yaddha vo balaṃ janā~ acucyavītana | girī~racucyavītana ||

Maruts, as you have vigour, invogorate mankind; give animation to the clouds.

यद्ध यान्ति मरुतः सं ह ब्रुवतेऽध्वन्ना । शृणोति कश्चिदेषाम् ॥

yaddha yānti marutaḥ saṃ ha bruvate'dhvannā | śṛṇoti kaścideṣām ||

Wherever the Maruts pass, they fill the way with clamour; every one hears their (noise).

प्र यात शीभमाशुभिः सन्ति कण्वेषु वो दुवः । तत्रो षु मादयाध्वै ॥

pra yāta śībhamāśubhiḥ santi kaṇveṣu vo duvaḥ | tatro ṣu mādayādhvai ||

Come quickly, with your swift (vehicles); the offerings of the kaṇvas are prepared; be plural ased with them.

अस्ति हि ष्मा मदाय वः स्मसि ष्मा वयमेषाम् । विश्वं चिदायुर्जीवसे ॥

asti hi ṣmā madāya vaḥ smasi ṣmā vayameṣām | viśvaṃ cidāyurjīvase ||

The offering is prepared for your gratification; we are your (worshipper), that we may live all our life.
