ह्वयाम्यग्निं प्रथमं स्वस्तये ह्वयामि मित्रावरुणाविहावसे । ह्वयामि रात्रीं जगतो निवेशनीं ह्वयामि देवं सवितारमूतये ॥

hvayāmyagniṃ prathamaṃ svastaye hvayāmi mitrāvaruṇāvihāvase | hvayāmi rātrīṃ jagato niveśanīṃ hvayāmi devaṃ savitāramūtaye ||

Invoke Agni first, for protection: I invoke for protection, Mitra and Varuṇa; invoke Night, who brings rest to the world; invoke the divine Savitā for my preservation.

आ कृष्णेन रजसा वर्तमानो निवेशयन्नमृतं मर्त्यं च । हिरण्ययेन सविता रथेना देवो याति भुवनानि पश्यन् ॥

ā kṛṣṇena rajasā vartamāno niveśayannamṛtaṃ martyaṃ ca | hiraṇyayena savitā rathenā devo yāti bhuvanāni paśyan ||

Revolving through the darkened firmament, arousing mortal and immortal, the divine Savitā travels in his golden chariot, beholding the (several) worlds.

याति देवः प्रवता यात्युद्वता याति शुभ्राभ्यां यजतो हरिभ्याम् । आ देवो याति सविता परावतोऽप विश्वा दुरिता बाधमानः ॥

yāti devaḥ pravatā yātyudvatā yāti śubhrābhyāṃ yajato haribhyām | ā devo yāti savitā parāvato'pa viśvā duritā bādhamānaḥ ||

The divine Savitā travels by an upward and by a downward path; deserving adoration, he journeys with two white horses; he comes hither from a distance, removing all sins.

अभीवृतं कृशनैर्विश्वरूपं हिरण्यशम्यं यजतो बृहन्तम् । आस्थाद्रथं सविता चित्रभानुः कृष्णा रजांसि तविषीं दधानः ॥

abhīvṛtaṃ kṛśanairviśvarūpaṃ hiraṇyaśamyaṃ yajato bṛhantam | āsthādrathaṃ savitā citrabhānuḥ kṛṣṇā rajāṃsi taviṣīṃ dadhānaḥ ||

The many-rayed adorable Savitā, having power (to disperse) darkness from the world, has mounted his nigh-standing chariot, decorated with many kinds of golden ornaments, and furnished with golden yokes.

वि जनाञ्छ्यावाः शितिपादो अख्यन्रथं हिरण्यप्रौगं वहन्तः । शश्वद्विशः सवितुर्दैव्यस्योपस्थे विश्वा भुवनानि तस्थुः ॥

vi janāñchyāvāḥ śitipādo akhyanrathaṃ hiraṇyapraugaṃ vahantaḥ | śaśvadviśaḥ saviturdaivyasyopasthe viśvā bhuvanāni tasthuḥ ||

His white-footed coursers, harnessed to his car with a golden yoke, have manifested light to manking. Men and all the regions are ever in the presence of divine Savitā.

तिस्रो द्यावः सवितुर्द्वा उपस्थाँ एका यमस्य भुवने विराषाट् । आणिं न रथ्यममृताधि तस्थुरिह ब्रवीतु य उ तच्चिकेतत् ॥

tisro dyāvaḥ saviturdvā upasthā~ ekā yamasya bhuvane virāṣāṭ | āṇiṃ na rathyamamṛtādhi tasthuriha bravītu ya u tacciketat ||

Three are the spheres; two are in the proximity of Savitā, one leads men to the dwelling of Yama. The immortal (luminaries) depend upon Savitā as a car upon the pin of the axle; let him who knows (the greatness of Savitā) declare it.

वि सुपर्णो अन्तरिक्षाण्यख्यद्गभीरवेपा असुरः सुनीथः । क्वेदानीं सूर्यः कश्चिकेत कतमां द्यां रश्मिरस्या ततान ॥

vi suparṇo antarikṣāṇyakhyadgabhīravepā asuraḥ sunīthaḥ | kvedānīṃ sūryaḥ kaściketa katamāṃ dyāṃ raśmirasyā tatāna ||

Suparṇa, (the solar ray), deep-quivering, life-bestowing, well-directed, has illuminated the three regions. Where now is Sūrya Who knows to what sphere his rays have extended?

अष्टौ व्यख्यत्ककुभः पृथिव्यास्त्री धन्व योजना सप्त सिन्धून् । हिरण्याक्षः सविता देव आगाद्दधद्रत्ना दाशुषे वार्याणि ॥

aṣṭau vyakhyatkakubhaḥ pṛthivyāstrī dhanva yojanā sapta sindhūn | hiraṇyākṣaḥ savitā deva āgāddadhadratnā dāśuṣe vāryāṇi ||

He has lighted up the eight points of the horizon, the three regions of living beings, the seven rivers; may the golden-eyes Savitā come hither, bestowing upon the offerer of the oblation desirable riches.

हिरण्यपाणिः सविता विचर्षणिरुभे द्यावापृथिवी अन्तरीयते । अपामीवां बाधते वेति सूर्यमभि कृष्णेन रजसा द्यामृणोति ॥

hiraṇyapāṇiḥ savitā vicarṣaṇirubhe dyāvāpṛthivī antarīyate | apāmīvāṃ bādhate veti sūryamabhi kṛṣṇena rajasā dyāmṛṇoti ||

The gold-handed, all-beholding, Savitā travels between the two regions of heaven and earth, dispels diseases, approaches the sun, and overspreads the sky with gloom, alternating radiance.

हिरण्यहस्तो असुरः सुनीथः सुमृऴीकः स्ववाँ यात्वर्वाङ् । अपसेधन्रक्षसो यातुधानानस्थाद्देवः प्रतिदोषं गृणानः ॥

hiraṇyahasto asuraḥ sunīthaḥ sumṛḻīkaḥ svavā~ yātvarvāṅ | apasedhanrakṣaso yātudhānānasthāddevaḥ pratidoṣaṃ gṛṇānaḥ ||

May the golden-handed, life-bestowing, well-guiding, exhilarating, and affluent Savitā, be present (at the sacrifice); for the deity, if worshipped in the evening, it at hand, driving away rākṣas and yātudhānas.

ये ते पन्थाः सवितः पूर्व्यासोऽरेणवः सुकृता अन्तरिक्षे । तेभिर्नो अद्य पथिभिः सुगेभी रक्षा च नो अधि च ब्रूहि देव ॥

ye te panthāḥ savitaḥ pūrvyāso'reṇavaḥ sukṛtā antarikṣe | tebhirno adya pathibhiḥ sugebhī rakṣā ca no adhi ca brūhi deva ||

Your paths, Savitā, are prepared of old, and free from dust, and well plural ced in the firmament; (coming) by those paths easy to be traversed, preserve us today. Deity, speak to us.
