[rv-1-174] • 10 श्लोकाः

त्वं राजेन्द्र ये च देवा रक्षा नॄन्पाह्यसुर त्वमस्मान् । त्वं सत्पतिर्मघवा नस्तरुत्रस्त्वं सत्यो वसवानः सहोदाः ॥

tvaṃ rājendra ye ca devā rakṣā nṝnpāhyasura tvamasmān | tvaṃ satpatirmaghavā nastarutrastvaṃ satyo vasavānaḥ sahodāḥ ||

You, Indra, are king; they who are gods (are subject) to you; therefore, scatterer (of foes), do you protect and cherish us men; you are the protector of the good, the possessor of wealth, the extricator of us (from sin); you are true, the invester (of all with your lustre) the giver of strength.

दनो विश इन्द्र मृध्रवाचः सप्त यत्पुरः शर्म शारदीर्दर्त् । ऋणोरपो अनवद्यार्णा यूने वृत्रं पुरुकुत्साय रन्धीः ॥

dano viśa indra mṛdhravācaḥ sapta yatpuraḥ śarma śāradīrdart | ṛṇorapo anavadyārṇā yūne vṛtraṃ purukutsāya randhīḥ ||

You have humbled the people, suing for pardon when you have destroyed their seven new cities; you the irrproachable have dispersed the flowing waters; you have destroyed Vṛtra for the sake of the youthful Purukutsa.

अजा वृत इन्द्र शूरपत्नीर्द्यां च येभिः पुरुहूत नूनम् । रक्षो अग्निमशुषं तूर्वयाणं सिंहो न दमे अपांसि वस्तोः ॥

ajā vṛta indra śūrapatnīrdyāṃ ca yebhiḥ puruhūta nūnam | rakṣo agnimaśuṣaṃ tūrvayāṇaṃ siṃho na dame apāṃsi vastoḥ ||

Go the cities inhabited by the rākṣasas, and thence to heaven (attended), receiver of many sacrifices by those who (attend you). Defend, like a lion, the untamed, quick-moving Agni, that he may abide in his dwelling, fulfilling his functions.

शेषन्नु त इन्द्र सस्मिन्योनौ प्रशस्तये पवीरवस्य मह्ना । सृजदर्णांस्यव यद्युधा गास्तिष्ठद्धरी धृषता मृष्ट वाजान् ॥

śeṣannu ta indra sasminyonau praśastaye pavīravasya mahnā | sṛjadarṇāṃsyava yadyudhā gāstiṣṭhaddharī dhṛṣatā mṛṣṭa vājān ||

Let (your foes, Indra), humbled by the might of your thunderbolt rest in their own station, for your glory; when you move, (armed) with your weapons, you send down the waters; arresting your horses, increase, by your power, (the abundance of) food.

वह कुत्समिन्द्र यस्मिञ्चाकन्त्स्यूमन्यू ऋज्रा वातस्याश्वा । प्र सूरश्चक्रं वृहतादभीकेऽभि स्पृधो यासिषद्वज्रबाहुः ॥

vaha kutsamindra yasmiñcākantsyūmanyū ṛjrā vātasyāśvā | pra sūraścakraṃ vṛhatādabhīke'bhi spṛdho yāsiṣadvajrabāhuḥ ||

Bear, Indra, with your obedient horses, as swift as the wind, (the sage) Kutsa, to that ceremony (to which) you desire (to convey him); let the sun bring near the wheel of his chariot, and let the thunder-armed advance against his opponents.

जघन्वाँ इन्द्र मित्रेरूञ्चोदप्रवृद्धो हरिवो अदाशून् । प्र ये पश्यन्नर्यमणं सचायोस्त्वया शूर्ता वहमाना अपत्यम् ॥

jaghanvā~ indra mitrerūñcodapravṛddho harivo adāśūn | pra ye paśyannaryamaṇaṃ sacāyostvayā śūrtā vahamānā apatyam ||

Indra, lord of steeds, invigorated by our animating praise, you have slain those who make you no offerings and disturb your worshippers; but they who look upon you as (their) protector, and are associated for (the presentation of sacrificial) food, obtain from the posterity.

रपत्कविरिन्द्रार्कसातौ क्षां दासायोपबर्हणीं कः । करत्तिस्रो मघवा दानुचित्रा नि दुर्योणे कुयवाचं मृधि श्रेत् ॥

rapatkavirindrārkasātau kṣāṃ dāsāyopabarhaṇīṃ kaḥ | karattisro maghavā dānucitrā ni duryoṇe kuyavācaṃ mṛdhi śret ||

The sage praises you, Indra, for the grant of desirable (food), since you have made the earth the bed of the asura; Maghavan has made the three (regions) marvellous by his gifts, and has destroyed for (the prince) Duryoṇi (the asura), Kuyavāca, in combat.

सना ता त इन्द्र नव्या आगुः सहो नभोऽविरणाय पूर्वीः । भिनत्पुरो न भिदो अदेवीर्ननमो वधरदेवस्य पीयोः ॥

sanā tā ta indra navyā āguḥ saho nabho'viraṇāya pūrvīḥ | bhinatpuro na bhido adevīrnanamo vadharadevasya pīyoḥ ||

The sages have celebrated your everlasting (as well as your) recent (exploits, in achieving which) you have endured many injuries in putting an end to war; verily, you have demolished hostile and undivine cities; you have bowed down the thunderbolt of the undivine asura.

त्वं धुनिरिन्द्र धुनिमतीॠणोरपः सीरा न स्रवन्तीः । प्र यत्समुद्रमति शूर पर्षि पारया तुर्वशं यदुं स्वस्ति ॥

tvaṃ dhunirindra dhunimatīṝṇorapaḥ sīrā na sravantīḥ | pra yatsamudramati śūra parṣi pārayā turvaśaṃ yaduṃ svasti ||

You, Indra, are the terrifier (of your foes); you have made the trembling waters overspread (the earth) like flowing rivers; but, hero, when you fill the ocean you have protected in their well-being Turvaśa and Yadu.

त्वमस्माकमिन्द्र विश्वध स्या अवृकतमो नरां नृपाता । स नो विश्वासां स्पृधां सहोदा विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम् ॥

tvamasmākamindra viśvadha syā avṛkatamo narāṃ nṛpātā | sa no viśvāsāṃ spṛdhāṃ sahodā vidyāmeṣaṃ vṛjanaṃ jīradānum ||

Be you, Indra, at all times our especial defender; the preserver of our people, the bestower of strength upon all these our emulous (followers); that we may obtain food, strength, and long life.
