ऋग्वेद 1.170 (श्लोक 5) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

न नूनमस्ति नो श्वः कस्तद्वेद यदद्भुतम् । अन्यस्य चित्तमभि संचरेण्यमुताधीतं वि नश्यति ॥

na nūnamasti no śvaḥ kastadveda yadadbhutam | anyasya cittamabhi saṃcareṇyamutādhītaṃ vi naśyati ||

(Indra speaks): It is not certain what today or what tomorrow will yield to us; who comprehends this mystery; verily, the mind of any other (being) is of an unsteady (nature), and even that which has been profoundly studied, is (in time) forgotten.

किं न इन्द्र जिघांससि भ्रातरो मरुतस्तव । तेभिः कल्पस्व साधुया मा नः समरणे वधीः ॥

kiṃ na indra jighāṃsasi bhrātaro marutastava | tebhiḥ kalpasva sādhuyā mā naḥ samaraṇe vadhīḥ ||

(Agstya): Why, Indra, do you purpose to slay us; the Maruts are your brothers; share with them (the offering) in peace; destroy us not in enmity.

किं नो भ्रातरगस्त्य सखा सन्नति मन्यसे । विद्मा हि ते यथा मनोऽस्मभ्यमिन्न दित्ससि ॥

kiṃ no bhrātaragastya sakhā sannati manyase | vidmā hi te yathā mano'smabhyaminna ditsasi ||

(Indra): Wherefore, brother Agastya, do you, who are my friend, treat me with regard; verily, we know what is in your mind; you do not intend to give us anything.

अरं कृण्वन्तु वेदिं समग्निमिन्धतां पुरः । तत्रामृतस्य चेतनं यज्ञं ते तनवावहै ॥

araṃ kṛṇvantu vediṃ samagnimindhatāṃ puraḥ | tatrāmṛtasya cetanaṃ yajñaṃ te tanavāvahai ||

(Agastya): Let the priests decorate the altar; let them kindle the fire to the east; and then let us both consummate the sacrifice, the inspirerof immortal (wisdom).

त्वमीशिषे वसुपते वसूनां त्वं मित्राणां मित्रपते धेष्ठः । इन्द्र त्वं मरुद्भिः सं वदस्वाध प्राशान ऋतुथा हवींषि ॥

tvamīśiṣe vasupate vasūnāṃ tvaṃ mitrāṇāṃ mitrapate dheṣṭhaḥ | indra tvaṃ marudbhiḥ saṃ vadasvādha prāśāna ṛtuthā havīṃṣi ||

(Agastya); You, Vasupati, are the lord of riches; you, Mitrapati, are the firm stay (of us), your friends; declare, Indra, along with the Maruts, (your approval of our acts), and partake of the oblation offered in due season.
