सहस्रं त इन्द्रोतयो नः सहस्रमिषो हरिवो गूर्ततमाः । सहस्रं रायो मादयध्यै सहस्रिण उप नो यन्तु वाजाः ॥

sahasraṃ ta indrotayo naḥ sahasramiṣo harivo gūrtatamāḥ | sahasraṃ rāyo mādayadhyai sahasriṇa upa no yantu vājāḥ ||

May your thousand benefits, Indra, come to us; may a thousand kinds of abundant food come to us, lord of horses; may a thousand (sorts of wealth) come to exhilarate us; may thousands of horses be ours.

आ नोऽवोभिर्मरुतो यान्त्वच्छा ज्येष्ठेभिर्वा बृहद्दिवैः सुमायाः । अध यदेषां नियुतः परमाः समुद्रस्य चिद्धनयन्त पारे ॥

ā no'vobhirmaruto yāntvacchā jyeṣṭhebhirvā bṛhaddivaiḥ sumāyāḥ | adha yadeṣāṃ niyutaḥ paramāḥ samudrasya ciddhanayanta pāre ||

May the Maruts come to our presence with benefaction; may they who are possessed of knowledge (come) with most excellent and brilliant (treasures), since their glorious horses, the Niyutas, gather wealth even on the farther shore of the sea.

मिम्यक्ष येषु सुधिता घृताची हिरण्यनिर्णिगुपरा न ऋष्टिः । गुहा चरन्ती मनुषो न योषा सभावती विदथ्येव सं वाक् ॥

mimyakṣa yeṣu sudhitā ghṛtācī hiraṇyanirṇiguparā na ṛṣṭiḥ | guhā carantī manuṣo na yoṣā sabhāvatī vidathyeva saṃ vāk ||

In whom the water-shedding, golden-coloured lighting, is fitly deposited like a chaplet (of clouds) moving in the firmament like the (splendidly-attired) wife of a man (of rank), and distinguished in assemblies like a sacrificial hymn.

परा शुभ्रा अयासो यव्या साधारण्येव मरुतो मिमिक्षुः । न रोदसी अप नुदन्त घोरा जुषन्त वृधं सख्याय देवाः ॥

parā śubhrā ayāso yavyā sādhāraṇyeva maruto mimikṣuḥ | na rodasī apa nudanta ghorā juṣanta vṛdhaṃ sakhyāya devāḥ ||

The radiant, ever-moving Maruts, have mingled with (their) associate, (lightning), like (youths) with common women; the formidable divinities do not overwhelm heaven and earth (with rain), but promote their prosperity through (friendly) regard.

जोषद्यदीमसुर्या सचध्यै विषितस्तुका रोदसी नृमणाः । आ सूर्येव विधतो रथं गात्त्वेषप्रतीका नभसो नेत्या ॥

joṣadyadīmasuryā sacadhyai viṣitastukā rodasī nṛmaṇāḥ | ā sūryeva vidhato rathaṃ gāttveṣapratīkā nabhaso netyā ||

Rodasī, the associate of the scatterers (of the clouds), with dishevelled tresses, and mind devoted to her lords, woos them to associate (with her); radiant in form, she has ascended the car of the restless (Maruts) as Sūrya (ascended the car of the Aśvins), and comes hither (with the celerity) of the sun.

आस्थापयन्त युवतिं युवानः शुभे निमिश्लां विदथेषु पज्राम् । अर्को यद्वो मरुतो हविष्मान्गायद्गाथं सुतसोमो दुवस्यन् ॥

āsthāpayanta yuvatiṃ yuvānaḥ śubhe nimiślāṃ vidatheṣu pajrām | arko yadvo maruto haviṣmāngāyadgāthaṃ sutasomo duvasyan ||

The youthful (Maruts) have plural ced the young (lightning) in (their) brilliant (car), commingling (with them), and vigorous (in yielding rain) on sacrifices (being solemnized); when, Maruts, your worshipper, presenting oblations, pouring out the Soma, and offering adoration, chants the sacred song.

प्र तं विवक्मि वक्म्यो य एषां मरुतां महिमा सत्यो अस्ति । सचा यदीं वृषमणा अहंयुः स्थिरा चिज्जनीर्वहते सुभागाः ॥

pra taṃ vivakmi vakmyo ya eṣāṃ marutāṃ mahimā satyo asti | sacā yadīṃ vṛṣamaṇā ahaṃyuḥ sthirā cijjanīrvahate subhāgāḥ ||

I celebrate that greatness of the Maruts, which is true, and worthy of celebration, inasmuch as their high-minded,haughty, and ever-enduring (bride), supports a flourishing progeny.

पान्ति मित्रावरुणाववद्याच्चयत ईमर्यमो अप्रशस्तान् । उत च्यवन्ते अच्युता ध्रुवाणि वावृध ईं मरुतो दातिवारः ॥

pānti mitrāvaruṇāvavadyāccayata īmaryamo apraśastān | uta cyavante acyutā dhruvāṇi vāvṛdha īṃ maruto dātivāraḥ ||

Mitra and Varuṇa, and Aryaman, defend (this) sacrifice from (all that is) reprehensible, and destroy (all that are) unworthy. They cause the yet unfallen and showering (rains) to descend, when, Maruts, the water-yielding (season) gives increase to this (world).

नही नु वो मरुतो अन्त्यस्मे आरात्ताच्चिच्छवसो अन्तमापुः । ते धृष्णुना शवसा शूशुवांसोऽर्णो न द्वेषो धृषता परि ष्ठुः ॥

nahī nu vo maruto antyasme ārāttāccicchavaso antamāpuḥ | te dhṛṣṇunā śavasā śūśuvāṃso'rṇo na dveṣo dhṛṣatā pari ṣṭhuḥ ||

None of us, Maruts, have attained, either nearly or remotely, the limit of your strength; those (Maruts), increasing in energy and vigour, overwhelm their enemies like an ocean.

वयमद्येन्द्रस्य प्रेष्ठा वयं श्वो वोचेमहि समर्ये । वयं पुरा महि च नो अनु द्यून्तन्न ऋभुक्षा नरामनु ष्यात् ॥

vayamadyendrasya preṣṭhā vayaṃ śvo vocemahi samarye | vayaṃ purā mahi ca no anu dyūntanna ṛbhukṣā narāmanu ṣyāt ||

Let us, who are beloved of Indra, glorify him today; let us glorify him tomorrow, at the sacred rite; let us glorify him for our great (good), in future days as of old, so that Ṛbhukṣin may ever be favourable to us amongst men.

एष वः स्तोमो मरुत इयं गीर्मान्दार्यस्य मान्यस्य कारोः । एषा यासीष्ट तन्वे वयां विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम् ॥

eṣa vaḥ stomo maruta iyaṃ gīrmāndāryasya mānyasya kāroḥ | eṣā yāsīṣṭa tanve vayāṃ vidyāmeṣaṃ vṛjanaṃ jīradānum ||

This praise, Maruts, is for you, this hymn is for you, (the work) of a venerable author, capable of conferring delight (by his laudations); may the praise reach you for (the good of your) person ns, so that we may thence obtain food, strength, and long life.
