ऋग्वेद 1.160 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

ते हि द्यावापृथिवी विश्वशम्भुव ऋतावरी रजसो धारयत्कवी । सुजन्मनी धिषणे अन्तरीयते देवो देवी धर्मणा सूर्यः शुचिः ॥

te hi dyāvāpṛthivī viśvaśambhuva ṛtāvarī rajaso dhārayatkavī | sujanmanī dhiṣaṇe antarīyate devo devī dharmaṇā sūryaḥ śuciḥ ||

Those two, the divine Heaven and Earth, are the diffusers of happiness on all, encouragers of truth, able to sustain the water (of the rains), auspicious of birth, and energetic (in action); in the interval between whom proceeds the pure and divine Sun for (the discharge of his) duties.

उरुव्यचसा महिनी असश्चता पिता माता च भुवनानि रक्षतः । सुधृष्टमे वपुष्ये न रोदसी पिता यत्सीमभि रूपैरवासयत् ॥

uruvyacasā mahinī asaścatā pitā mātā ca bhuvanāni rakṣataḥ | sudhṛṣṭame vapuṣye na rodasī pitā yatsīmabhi rūpairavāsayat ||

Wide-spreading, vast, unconnected, the father and mother (of all beings), they two preservethe worlds. Resolute, as if (for the good) of embodied (beings), are Heaven and Earth, and the father ahs invested evry thing with (visible) forms.

स वह्निः पुत्रः पित्रोः पवित्रवान्पुनाति धीरो भुवनानि मायया । धेनुं च पृश्निं वृषभं सुरेतसं विश्वाहा शुक्रं पयो अस्य दुक्षत ॥

sa vahniḥ putraḥ pitroḥ pavitravānpunāti dhīro bhuvanāni māyayā | dhenuṃ ca pṛśniṃ vṛṣabhaṃ suretasaṃ viśvāhā śukraṃ payo asya dukṣata ||

The pure and the resolute son of (these) parents, the bearer (of rewards), sanctifies the worlds by his intelligence;. as well as the cow (the earth), and the vigorous bull (the heaven), and daily milks the pellucid milk (of the sky).

अयं देवानामपसामपस्तमो यो जजान रोदसी विश्वशम्भुवा । वि यो ममे रजसी सुक्रतूययाजरेभिः स्कम्भनेभिः समानृचे ॥

ayaṃ devānāmapasāmapastamo yo jajāna rodasī viśvaśambhuvā | vi yo mame rajasī sukratūyayājarebhiḥ skambhanebhiḥ samānṛce ||

He it is, amongst gods (the most divine), amongst (pious) works the most pious, who gave birth to the all-delighting heaven and earth; who measured them both, and, for the sake of holy rites, propped them up with undecaying pillars.

ते नो गृणाने महिनी महि श्रवः क्षत्रं द्यावापृथिवी धासथो बृहत् । येनाभि कृष्टीस्ततनाम विश्वहा पनाय्यमोजो अस्मे समिन्वतम् ॥

te no gṛṇāne mahinī mahi śravaḥ kṣatraṃ dyāvāpṛthivī dhāsatho bṛhat | yenābhi kṛṣṭīstatanāma viśvahā panāyyamojo asme saminvatam ||

Glorified by us, grant to us, Heaven and Earth abundant food and great strength; whereby we may daily multiply mankind; bestow upon us commendable vigour.
