ऋग्वेद 1.159 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

प्र द्यावा यज्ञैः पृथिवी ऋतावृधा मही स्तुषे विदथेषु प्रचेतसा । देवेभिर्ये देवपुत्रे सुदंससेत्था धिया वार्याणि प्रभूषतः ॥

pra dyāvā yajñaiḥ pṛthivī ṛtāvṛdhā mahī stuṣe vidatheṣu pracetasā | devebhirye devaputre sudaṃsasetthā dhiyā vāryāṇi prabhūṣataḥ ||

I glorify with sacred rites themighty Heaven and Earth, the augmenters of sacrifice, who (are to be contemplated) with devotion at holy ceremonies; those two, who, cherishing their worshippers as children, are venerated by the devout, and therefore with favour bestow (upon us) desirable blessings.

उत मन्ये पितुरद्रुहो मनो मातुर्महि स्वतवस्तद्धवीमभिः । सुरेतसा पितरा भूम चक्रतुरुरु प्रजाया अमृतं वरीमभिः ॥

uta manye pituradruho mano māturmahi svatavastaddhavīmabhiḥ | suretasā pitarā bhūma cakratururu prajāyā amṛtaṃ varīmabhiḥ ||

Verily I propitiate, by my invocations, the mind of the benevolent father, and the great and spontaneous (affection) of the mother (of all beings). The parents, with kindness, have secured, by their excellent protections, the vast and manifold immortality of their progeny.

ते सूनवः स्वपसः सुदंससो मही जज्ञुर्मातरा पूर्वचित्तये । स्थातुश्च सत्यं जगतश्च धर्मणि पुत्रस्य पाथः पदमद्वयाविनः ॥

te sūnavaḥ svapasaḥ sudaṃsaso mahī jajñurmātarā pūrvacittaye | sthātuśca satyaṃ jagataśca dharmaṇi putrasya pāthaḥ padamadvayāvinaḥ ||

These, your children, the performers of good works, and of goodly appearance, recognize you as their great parents, through experience of former (kindness); preserve uninterrupted stability in the functions of your progeny, whether stationary or moving, (depending for existence) on none other than you.

ते मायिनो ममिरे सुप्रचेतसो जामी सयोनी मिथुना समोकसा । नव्यंनव्यं तन्तुमा तन्वते दिवि समुद्रे अन्तः कवयः सुदीतयः ॥

te māyino mamire supracetaso jāmī sayonī mithunā samokasā | navyaṃnavyaṃ tantumā tanvate divi samudre antaḥ kavayaḥ sudītayaḥ ||

Those provident and intelligent sisters, (the rays of light), conceived of the same womb, (ever) united (with each other), and dwelling in the same abode, metre out (all things); knowing (their functions), and bright-shining, they spread in ever new (directions) throughout the radiant firmament.

तद्राधो अद्य सवितुर्वरेण्यं वयं देवस्य प्रसवे मनामहे । अस्मभ्यं द्यावापृथिवी सुचेतुना रयिं धत्तं वसुमन्तं शतग्विनम् ॥

tadrādho adya saviturvareṇyaṃ vayaṃ devasya prasave manāmahe | asmabhyaṃ dyāvāpṛthivī sucetunā rayiṃ dhattaṃ vasumantaṃ śatagvinam ||

We solicit today of the divine sun, his favour being propitiated, that wealth which is desirable. Benignant Heaven and Earth, bestow upon us riches, (consisting of) habitations and hundreds (of cattle and the like).
