ऋग्वेद 1.153 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

यजामहे वां महः सजोषा हव्येभिर्मित्रावरुणा नमोभिः । घृतैर्घृतस्नू अध यद्वामस्मे अध्वर्यवो न धीतिभिर्भरन्ति ॥

yajāmahe vāṃ mahaḥ sajoṣā havyebhirmitrāvaruṇā namobhiḥ | ghṛtairghṛtasnū adha yadvāmasme adhvaryavo na dhītibhirbharanti ||

Mighty Mitra and Varuṇa, dispensers of butter, we worship you, rejoicing, with oblations; with reverential homage, and with (offerings of) water; so that our ministrant priests may propitiate you by (our) devotions.

प्रस्तुतिर्वां धाम न प्रयुक्तिरयामि मित्रावरुणा सुवृक्तिः । अनक्ति यद्वां विदथेषु होता सुम्नं वां सूरिर्वृषणावियक्षन् ॥

prastutirvāṃ dhāma na prayuktirayāmi mitrāvaruṇā suvṛktiḥ | anakti yadvāṃ vidatheṣu hotā sumnaṃ vāṃ sūrirvṛṣaṇāviyakṣan ||

The purpose of worshipping you, Mitra and Varuṇa, is not the performance, but (even by so much) I may attain to your glory, and there is acquittance (of my duty); for when the priest offers you oblations in sacrifices, then the pious man, showerers (of benefits), being desirous of worshipping you, (obtains) felicity.

पीपाय धेनुरदितिॠताय जनाय मित्रावरुणा हविर्दे । हिनोति यद्वां विदथे सपर्यन्त्स रातहव्यो मानुषो न होता ॥

pīpāya dhenuraditiṝtāya janāya mitrāvaruṇā havirde | hinoti yadvāṃ vidathe saparyantsa rātahavyo mānuṣo na hotā ||

Let the productive cow, Mitra and Varuṇa, furnish abundant nutriment to the pious man who presents you with oblations, as when Rātahavya, glorifying you, propitiates you in the solemnity, like the ministrant priest of a man (who instrumental tutes the rite).

उत वां विक्षु मद्यास्वन्धो गाव आपश्च पीपयन्त देवीः । उतो नो अस्य पूर्व्यः पतिर्दन्वीतं पातं पयस उस्रियायाः ॥

uta vāṃ vikṣu madyāsvandho gāva āpaśca pīpayanta devīḥ | uto no asya pūrvyaḥ patirdanvītaṃ pātaṃ payasa usriyāyāḥ ||

May the divine cows, and the waters, supply you with (sacrificial) food, for the prosperity of the people whom you favour; or may (Agni), the former protector of this (our patron), be the donor (of the oblation); eat (of the butter and curds), drink of the milk of the kine.
