[rv-1-151] • 9 श्लोकाः

मित्रं न यं शिम्या गोषु गव्यवः स्वाध्यो विदथे अप्सु जीजनन् । अरेजेतां रोदसी पाजसा गिरा प्रति प्रियं यजतं जनुषामवः ॥

mitraṃ na yaṃ śimyā goṣu gavyavaḥ svādhyo vidathe apsu jījanan | arejetāṃ rodasī pājasā girā prati priyaṃ yajataṃ januṣāmavaḥ ||

Heaven and earth have been terrified by the strength and the noise (of him), whom pious worshippers, desirous of acquiring cattle, have genitive rated by their (sacred) acts, amidst the waters (of the firmament), at the sacrifice, as a friend for the preservation of living beings, the benefactor (of man), and entitled to adoration.

यद्ध त्यद्वां पुरुमीऴ्हस्य सोमिनः प्र मित्रासो न दधिरे स्वाभुवः । अध क्रतुं विदतं गातुमर्चत उत श्रुतं वृषणा पस्त्यावतः ॥

yaddha tyadvāṃ purumīḻhasya sominaḥ pra mitrāso na dadhire svābhuvaḥ | adha kratuṃ vidataṃ gātumarcata uta śrutaṃ vṛṣaṇā pastyāvataḥ ||

Since they, (the priests), like friends, have prepared for you both, (Mitra and Varuṇa a libation) of the abundantly-flowing and spontaneous Soma, therefore do you consent to come to the rite of the worshipper, and listen, showerers (of blessings), to the (prayers of the) householdeṛ

आ वां भूषन्क्षितयो जन्म रोदस्योः प्रवाच्यं वृषणा दक्षसे महे । यदीमृताय भरथो यदर्वते प्र होत्रया शिम्या वीथो अध्वरम् ॥

ā vāṃ bhūṣankṣitayo janma rodasyoḥ pravācyaṃ vṛṣaṇā dakṣase mahe | yadīmṛtāya bharatho yadarvate pra hotrayā śimyā vītho adhvaram ||

For the sake (of obtaining) great vigour, showerers (of benefits), men glorify your birth from heaven and earth, which is to be extolled, inasmuch as you bestow (his desires) upon the worshipper (as the reward) of his sacrifice, and accept the rite (that is solemnized) with praise and oblation.

प्र सा क्षितिरसुर या महि प्रिय ऋतावानावृतमा घोषथो बृहत् । युवं दिवो बृहतो दक्षमाभुवं गां न धुर्युप युञ्जाथे अपः ॥

pra sā kṣitirasura yā mahi priya ṛtāvānāvṛtamā ghoṣatho bṛhat | yuvaṃ divo bṛhato dakṣamābhuvaṃ gāṃ na dhuryupa yuñjāthe apaḥ ||

Powerful divinities, most acceptable to you both is that spot, (where you are worshipped); accepters of sacrifice, proclaim the great ceremony (as duly performed); for you two connect the efficacious and comprehensive rise with the vast heaven, like a cow with a burden.

मही अत्र महिना वारमृण्वथोऽरेणवस्तुज आ सद्मन्धेनवः । स्वरन्ति ता उपरताति सूर्यमा निम्रुच उषसस्तक्ववीरिव ॥

mahī atra mahinā vāramṛṇvatho'reṇavastuja ā sadmandhenavaḥ | svaranti tā uparatāti sūryamā nimruca uṣasastakvavīriva ||

You bring (the cattle) to their acceptable (pasture) upon earth, whence the milk-yielding cows, protected by your power, return unharmed to their stalls; they cry to the sun (in heaven) above, both at evening and at dawn, as one (cries aloud) who detects a thief.

आ वामृताय केशिनीरनूषत मित्र यत्र वरुण गातुमर्चथः । अव त्मना सृजतं पिन्वतं धियो युवं विप्रस्य मन्मनामिरज्यथः ॥

ā vāmṛtāya keśinīranūṣata mitra yatra varuṇa gātumarcathaḥ | ava tmanā sṛjataṃ pinvataṃ dhiyo yuvaṃ viprasya manmanāmirajyathaḥ ||

The tresses of Agni minister, Mitra and Varuṇa, to your sacrifice, when you honour (with your presence) the sacrificial chamber; send down of your own accord (the rain), and prosper our offerings, for you have command over the praise of the pious men.

यो वां यज्ञैः शशमानो ह दाशति कविर्होता यजति मन्मसाधनः । उपाह तं गच्छथो वीथो अध्वरमच्छा गिरः सुमतिं गन्तमस्मयू ॥

yo vāṃ yajñaiḥ śaśamāno ha dāśati kavirhotā yajati manmasādhanaḥ | upāha taṃ gacchatho vītho adhvaramacchā giraḥ sumatiṃ gantamasmayū ||

Come to the devout (worshipper), who, glorifying you, and providing (all that is) acceptable, presents you with oblations; (to him), the sage, the invoker, who offers you worship; accept his sacrifice; favourably disposed towards us, (accept) our praises.

युवां यज्ञैः प्रथमा गोभिरञ्जत ऋतावाना मनसो न प्रयुक्तिषु । भरन्ति वां मन्मना संयता गिरोऽदृप्यता मनसा रेवदाशाथे ॥

yuvāṃ yajñaiḥ prathamā gobhirañjata ṛtāvānā manaso na prayuktiṣu | bharanti vāṃ manmanā saṃyatā giro'dṛpyatā manasā revadāśāthe ||

Accepter of sacrifices, you are the first whom (worshippers) propitiate with offerings, the produce of the cow; like (the application) of the mind (in the first instrumental nce) to the results (of the senses); hymns (prompted) by thoughts wholly intent upon you, celebrate (your praise); do you, with humble minds, bestow upon us wealth.

रेवद्वयो दधाथे रेवदाशाथे नरा मायाभिरितऊति माहिनम् । न वां द्यावोऽहभिर्नोत सिन्धवो न देवत्वं पणयो नानशुर्मघम् ॥

revadvayo dadhāthe revadāśāthe narā māyābhiritaūti māhinam | na vāṃ dyāvo'habhirnota sindhavo na devatvaṃ paṇayo nānaśurmagham ||

You distribute food, accompanied by riches; you bestow upon us, leaders (of sacrifice), wealth, ample, and defended by your wise provisions; the days with the nights have not attained your divinity; neither have the rivers, nor have the asuras, and they have not obtained (your) wealth.
