ऋग्वेद 1.147 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

कथा ते अग्ने शुचयन्त आयोर्ददाशुर्वाजेभिराशुषाणाः । उभे यत्तोके तनये दधाना ऋतस्य सामन्रणयन्त देवाः ॥

kathā te agne śucayanta āyordadāśurvājebhirāśuṣāṇāḥ | ubhe yattoke tanaye dadhānā ṛtasya sāmanraṇayanta devāḥ ||

How have your shining and evaporating (rays), Agni, supported life (and supplied) food; so that, enjoying both, the devout (worshippers), possessing sons and grandsons, may repeat the hymns of the sacrifice.

बोधा मे अस्य वचसो यविष्ठ मंहिष्ठस्य प्रभृतस्य स्वधावः । पीयति त्वो अनु त्वो गृणाति वन्दारुस्ते तन्वं वन्दे अग्ने ॥

bodhā me asya vacaso yaviṣṭha maṃhiṣṭhasya prabhṛtasya svadhāvaḥ | pīyati tvo anu tvo gṛṇāti vandāruste tanvaṃ vande agne ||

Youthful (Agni), to whom oblations are due, appreciate this my reverential and earnest praise; one man reviles (you), another propitiates (you); I, your worshipper, glorify, your person n.

ये पायवो मामतेयं ते अग्ने पश्यन्तो अन्धं दुरितादरक्षन् । ररक्ष तान्त्सुकृतो विश्ववेदा दिप्सन्त इद्रिपवो नाह देभुः ॥

ye pāyavo māmateyaṃ te agne paśyanto andhaṃ duritādarakṣan | rarakṣa tāntsukṛto viśvavedā dipsanta idripavo nāha debhuḥ ||

Your fostering (rays), Agni, beholding the blind son of Mamatā, relieved him of the affliction; he who knows all things protect the pious, and (their) malevolent enemies are unable to do them harm.

यो नो अग्ने अररिवाँ अघायुररातीवा मर्चयति द्वयेन । मन्त्रो गुरुः पुनरस्तु सो अस्मा अनु मृक्षीष्ट तन्वं दुरुक्तैः ॥

yo no agne ararivā~ aghāyurarātīvā marcayati dvayena | mantro guruḥ punarastu so asmā anu mṛkṣīṣṭa tanvaṃ duruktaiḥ ||

When a wicked (man), with twofold (malignity of thought and speech), obstructing our offerings, and refraining from gifts (himself), reviles us, may his prayer be heavy on him, and involve his person n (in the consequences of) his evil words.

उत वा यः सहस्य प्रविद्वान्मर्तो मर्तं मर्चयति द्वयेन । अतः पाहि स्तवमान स्तुवन्तमग्ने माकिर्नो दुरिताय धायीः ॥

uta vā yaḥ sahasya pravidvānmarto martaṃ marcayati dvayena | ataḥ pāhi stavamāna stuvantamagne mākirno duritāya dhāyīḥ ||

When, Son of Strength, a man skilful (in deception) assails another man with a doubly (malignant prayer), do you, Agni, duly propitiated, protect him who worships you (from its effects); consign us not to misfortune.
