ऋग्वेद 1.135 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

स्तीर्णं बर्हिरुप नो याहि वीतये सहस्रेण नियुता नियुत्वते शतिनीभिर्नियुत्वते । तुभ्यं हि पूर्वपीतये देवा देवाय येमिरे । प्र ते सुतासो मधुमन्तो अस्थिरन्मदाय क्रत्वे अस्थिरन् ॥

stīrṇaṃ barhirupa no yāhi vītaye sahasreṇa niyutā niyutvate śatinībhirniyutvate | tubhyaṃ hi pūrvapītaye devā devāya yemire | pra te sutāso madhumanto asthiranmadāya kratve asthiran ||

Approach our strewngrass, Vāyu, with (your) thousand steeds, to partake of the (offered) food, (prepared) for the lord of the steeds; (approach) with hundreds (to the sacrifice prepared) for thelord of the steeds; the gods holdback for you as the deity (entitled) first to drink (Soma); the sweet effused (Soma) are ready for your exhilaration; are redy for their function.

तुभ्यायं सोमः परिपूतो अद्रिभिः स्पार्हा वसानः परि कोशमर्षति शुक्रा वसानो अर्षति । तवायं भाग आयुषु सोमो देवेषु हूयते । वह वायो नियुतो याह्यस्मयुर्जुषाणो याह्यस्मयुः ॥

tubhyāyaṃ somaḥ paripūto adribhiḥ spārhā vasānaḥ pari kośamarṣati śukrā vasāno arṣati | tavāyaṃ bhāga āyuṣu somo deveṣu hūyate | vaha vāyo niyuto yāhyasmayurjuṣāṇo yāhyasmayuḥ ||

For you this Soma, purified by the stones (that bruise), and clothed with enviable (splendour), flows to its (appropriate) receptacle; clothed with brilliant (splendour), this Soma is offered as your portion amongst men and amongst gods; (having received it), harness your horses, and depart well effected towards us; gratified, and well disposed towards us, depart.

आ नो नियुद्भिः शतिनीभिरध्वरं सहस्रिणीभिरुप याहि वीतये वायो हव्यानि वीतये । तवायं भाग ऋत्वियः सरश्मिः सूर्ये सचा । अध्वर्युभिर्भरमाणा अयंसत वायो शुक्रा अयंसत ॥

ā no niyudbhiḥ śatinībhiradhvaraṃ sahasriṇībhirupa yāhi vītaye vāyo havyāni vītaye | tavāyaṃ bhāga ṛtviyaḥ saraśmiḥ sūrye sacā | adhvaryubhirbharamāṇā ayaṃsata vāyo śukrā ayaṃsata ||

Come with hundreds and thousand of your steeds to our sacrifice to partake of (the sacrificial) food; (come), Vāyu, to partake of the oblations; this is your reasonable portion, and it is radiant along with the sun; the Soma (portions) borne by the priests are prepared; the pure Soma (portions), Vāyu, are prepared.

आ वां रथो नियुत्वान्वक्षदवसेऽभि प्रयांसि सुधितानि वीतये वायो हव्यानि वीतये । पिबतं मध्वो अन्धसः पूर्वपेयं हि वां हितम् । वायवा चन्द्रेण राधसा गतमिन्द्रश्च राधसा गतम् ॥

ā vāṃ ratho niyutvānvakṣadavase'bhi prayāṃsi sudhitāni vītaye vāyo havyāni vītaye | pibataṃ madhvo andhasaḥ pūrvapeyaṃ hi vāṃ hitam | vāyavā candreṇa rādhasā gatamindraśca rādhasā gatam ||

Let the chariot drawn by the Niyuts convey you both, (Indra and Vāyu, to the sacrifice), for our preservation, and to partake of the consecrated viands; to partake, Vāyu, of the oblations; drink of the sweet beverage;for the first draught is your (joing) due. Vāyu (and Indra), come with joy-bestowing wealth; Indra (and Vāyu), come with wealth.

आ वां धियो ववृत्युरध्वराँ उपेममिन्दुं मर्मृजन्त वाजिनमाशुमत्यं न वाजिनम् । तेषां पिबतमस्मयू आ नो गन्तमिहोत्या । इन्द्रवायू सुतानामद्रिभिर्युवं मदाय वाजदा युवम् ॥

ā vāṃ dhiyo vavṛtyuradhvarā~ upemaminduṃ marmṛjanta vājinamāśumatyaṃ na vājinam | teṣāṃ pibatamasmayū ā no gantamihotyā | indravāyū sutānāmadribhiryuvaṃ madāya vājadā yuvam ||

The pious acts (addressed) to you have given augmented (efficacy) to our sacrifices; for you, (the priests) strain this quick-dropping Soma, as (the grooms rub down) a fleet, quick-running courser; drink of their (libations), and come hither, well disposed towards us, for our protection; do you both drink of the Soma that have been expressed by the stones, for you are both givers of food.

इमे वां सोमा अप्स्वा सुता इहाध्वर्युभिर्भरमाणा अयंसत वायो शुक्रा अयंसत । एते वामभ्यसृक्षत तिरः पवित्रमाशवः । युवायवोऽति रोमाण्यव्यया सोमासो अत्यव्यया ॥

ime vāṃ somā apsvā sutā ihādhvaryubhirbharamāṇā ayaṃsata vāyo śukrā ayaṃsata | ete vāmabhyasṛkṣata tiraḥ pavitramāśavaḥ | yuvāyavo'ti romāṇyavyayā somāso atyavyayā ||

These Soma, poured out in our rites, and borne by the priests, are prepared for you both; the pure Soma, Vāyu (and Indra), are prepared; these pervading (effusions) have passed through the oblique filter for you both; the Soma intended for you both, pass through the woolly fleece; the inexhaustible soma.

अति वायो ससतो याहि शश्वतो यत्र ग्रावा वदति तत्र गच्छतं गृहमिन्द्रश्च गच्छतम् । वि सूनृता ददृशे रीयते घृतमा पूर्णया नियुता याथो अध्वरमिन्द्रश्च याथो अध्वरम् ॥

ati vāyo sasato yāhi śaśvato yatra grāvā vadati tatra gacchataṃ gṛhamindraśca gacchatam | vi sūnṛtā dadṛśe rīyate ghṛtamā pūrṇayā niyutā yātho adhvaramindraśca yātho adhvaram ||

Pass, (Vāyu), by the many sleeping (worshippers) and go (with Indra) to the house where the stone resounds; Indra (and Vāyu), go to that dwelling; (go where) the (word of) truth is manifest; (go where) the butter flows; go both well-fed horses to the sacrifice; Indra (and Vāyu), repair to the sacrifice.

अत्राह तद्वहेथे मध्व आहुतिं यमश्वत्थमुपतिष्ठन्त जायवोऽस्मे ते सन्तु जायवः । साकं गावः सुवते पच्यते यवो न ते वाय उप दस्यन्ति धेनवो नाप दस्यन्ति धेनवः ॥

atrāha tadvahethe madhva āhutiṃ yamaśvatthamupatiṣṭhanta jāyavo'sme te santu jāyavaḥ | sākaṃ gāvaḥ suvate pacyate yavo na te vāya upa dasyanti dhenavo nāpa dasyanti dhenavaḥ ||

Then, accept the libations of the sweet Soma at the sacrifice in which the triumphant priests stand round the rock-born (plural nt); may they ever be victorious for us; (for you) together the cows distil (their milk); the (offering of) barley is dressed; and never for you, (Vāyu), will the cows grow meagre. never will the kine be carried off (by thieves).

इमे ये ते सु वायो बाह्वोजसोऽन्तर्नदी ते पतयन्त्युक्षणो महि व्राधन्त उक्षणः । धन्वञ्चिद्ये अनाशवो जीराश्चिदगिरौकसः । सूर्यस्येव रश्मयो दुर्नियन्तवो हस्तयोर्दुर्नियन्तवः ॥

ime ye te su vāyo bāhvojaso'ntarnadī te patayantyukṣaṇo mahi vrādhanta ukṣaṇaḥ | dhanvañcidye anāśavo jīrāścidagiraukasaḥ | sūryasyeva raśmayo durniyantavo hastayordurniyantavaḥ ||

These your horses, excellent Vāyu, strong of limb, youthful and full of vigour, bear you through the space between heaven and earth; growing (are they) in bulk, and strong as oxen; they are not lost in the firmament, but hold on their speed, unretarded by reviling; difficult are they to be arrested as the beams of the sun; difficult are they to be arrested by force.
