[rv-1-133] • 7 श्लोकाः

उभे पुनामि रोदसी ऋतेन द्रुहो दहामि सं महीरनिन्द्राः । अभिव्लग्य यत्र हता अमित्रा वैलस्थानं परि तृऴ्हा अशेरन् ॥

ubhe punāmi rodasī ṛtena druho dahāmi saṃ mahīranindrāḥ | abhivlagya yatra hatā amitrā vailasthānaṃ pari tṛḻhā aśeran ||

By sacriice I purify both the heaven and the earth; I burn the wide (realms of earth) that are without Indra, and are (the haunts) of the wicked; wherever the enemies have congregated they have been slain; and, utterly destroyed, they sleep in a deep pit.

अभिव्लग्या चिदद्रिवः शीर्षा यातुमतीनाम् । छिन्धि वटूरिणा पदा महावटूरिणा पदा ॥

abhivlagyā cidadrivaḥ śīrṣā yātumatīnām | chindhi vaṭūriṇā padā mahāvaṭūriṇā padā ||

Devourer (of foes) having trampled on the heads of the malignant (hosts), crush them with your wide-spreading foot; you vast wide-spreading foot.

अवासां मघवञ्जहि शर्धो यातुमतीनाम् । वैलस्थानके अर्मके महावैलस्थे अर्मके ॥

avāsāṃ maghavañjahi śardho yātumatīnām | vailasthānake armake mahāvailasthe armake ||

Annihilate, Maghavan, the might of malignant (hosts), hurl them into the vile pit; and vast and vile pit.

यासां तिस्रः पञ्चाशतोऽभिव्लङ्गैरपावपः । तत्सु ते मनायति तकत्सु ते मनायति ॥

yāsāṃ tisraḥ pañcāśato'bhivlaṅgairapāvapaḥ | tatsu te manāyati takatsu te manāyati ||

That you have destroyed, by your assaults, thirce fifty of such (hosts), is a deed that well becomes you, although thought by you of little moment.

पिशङ्गभृष्टिमम्भृणं पिशाचिमिन्द्र सं मृण । सर्वं रक्षो नि बर्हय ॥

piśaṅgabhṛṣṭimambhṛṇaṃ piśācimindra saṃ mṛṇa | sarvaṃ rakṣo ni barhaya ||

Destroy, Indra, the tawny-coloured, fearfully-roaring, piśāci; annihilate all the rākṣasas.

अवर्मह इन्द्र दादृहि श्रुधी नः शुशोच हि द्यौः क्षा न भीषाँ अद्रिवो घृणान्न भीषाँ अद्रिवः । शुष्मिन्तमो हि शुष्मिभिर्वधैरुग्रेभिरीयसे । अपूरुषघ्नो अप्रतीत शूर सत्वभिस्त्रिसप्तैः शूर सत्वभिः ॥

avarmaha indra dādṛhi śrudhī naḥ śuśoca hi dyauḥ kṣā na bhīṣā~ adrivo ghṛṇānna bhīṣā~ adrivaḥ | śuṣmintamo hi śuṣmibhirvadhairugrebhirīyase | apūruṣaghno apratīta śūra satvabhistrisaptaiḥ śūra satvabhiḥ ||

Hurl headlong, Indra, the vast (cloud); hear our supplications; verily the heaven is in sorrow like the earth, through fear, wielder of the thunderbolt, (of famine), as (formerly through fear of) Tvaṣṭā; most powerful withmighty energies, you assail, Indra, (the clouds) with terrible blows; and, doing no injury to man (you march) invincible, hero, by (your) enemies attended, hero, by three or by seven followers.

वनोति हि सुन्वन्क्षयं परीणसः सुन्वानो हि ष्मा यजत्यव द्विषो देवानामव द्विषः । सुन्वान इत्सिषासति सहस्रा वाज्यवृतः । सुन्वानायेन्द्रो ददात्याभुवं रयिं ददात्याभुवम् ॥

vanoti hi sunvankṣayaṃ parīṇasaḥ sunvāno hi ṣmā yajatyava dviṣo devānāmava dviṣaḥ | sunvāna itsiṣāsati sahasrā vājyavṛtaḥ | sunvānāyendro dadātyābhuvaṃ rayiṃ dadātyābhuvam ||

Offering libations, (the worshipper) obtains a (safe) asylum; offering libations, he destroys his prostrate foes; (he destroys) the enemies of the gods; abounding with food, and unsubdued (by adversaries), he hopes to attain, when offering libations, infinite (riches), for Indra grants to him who offers libations whatever there is (that he desires); he grants (him) accusative ulated wealth.
