[rv-1-120] • 12 श्लोकाः

का राधद्धोत्राश्विना वां को वां जोष उभयोः । कथा विधात्यप्रचेताः ॥

kā rādhaddhotrāśvinā vāṃ ko vāṃ joṣa ubhayoḥ | kathā vidhātyapracetāḥ ||

What praise may propitiate you, Aśvins? who may give satisfaction to you both? how may an ignorant (man) pay fitting homage?

विद्वांसाविद्दुरः पृच्छेदविद्वानित्थापरो अचेताः । नू चिन्नु मर्ते अक्रौ ॥

vidvāṃsāvidduraḥ pṛcchedavidvānitthāparo acetāḥ | nū cinnu marte akrau ||

Thus may an ignorant man inquire the means of worshipping the all-wise, for every (one) other (than the Aśvins) is unknowing; they, the unconquered, quickly(show favour) to the man (who worships them).

ता विद्वांसा हवामहे वां ता नो विद्वांसा मन्म वोचेतमद्य । प्रार्चद्दयमानो युवाकुः ॥

tā vidvāṃsā havāmahe vāṃ tā no vidvāṃsā manma vocetamadya | prārcaddayamāno yuvākuḥ ||

We invoke you, who know all things; may you, who are omniscient, declare to us today the praise tha tis acceptable; desirous of your presence, I reverence you, offering (oblations).

वि पृच्छामि पाक्या न देवान्वषट्कृतस्याद्भुतस्य दस्रा । पातं च सह्यसो युवं च रभ्यसो नः ॥

vi pṛcchāmi pākyā na devānvaṣaṭkṛtasyādbhutasya dasrā | pātaṃ ca sahyaso yuvaṃ ca rabhyaso naḥ ||

I invite not the gods immature (in wisdom), but you, Dasras; drink of the wonderful and strength-giving burnt-offering, and make us vigorous.

प्र या घोषे भृगवाणे न शोभे यया वाचा यजति पज्रियो वाम् । प्रैषयुर्न विद्वान् ॥

pra yā ghoṣe bhṛgavāṇe na śobhe yayā vācā yajati pajriyo vām | praiṣayurna vidvān ||

Powerful is the hymn that was repeated by the son of Ghoṣā, and by Bhṛgu, and with which hymn the Aṅgirasas adore you; may the sage (kakṣīvat), desirous (of food), obtain it abundantly.

श्रुतं गायत्रं तकवानस्याहं चिद्धि रिरेभाश्विना वाम् । आक्षी शुभस्पती दन् ॥

śrutaṃ gāyatraṃ takavānasyāhaṃ ciddhi rirebhāśvinā vām | ākṣī śubhaspatī dan ||

Hear the song of the stumbling (blind man), for verily, Aśvins, I glorify you, recovering my eyes (through you), who are protectors of good works

युवं ह्यास्तं महो रन्युवं वा यन्निरततंसतम् । ता नो वसू सुगोपा स्यातं पातं नो वृकादघायोः ॥

yuvaṃ hyāstaṃ maho ranyuvaṃ vā yanniratataṃsatam | tā no vasū sugopā syātaṃ pātaṃ no vṛkādaghāyoḥ ||

You have been givers of great riches; you have again caused them to disappear; do you, who are donors of dwellings, become our preservers; protect us from the felonous robber.

मा कस्मै धातमभ्यमित्रिणे नो माकुत्रा नो गृहेभ्यो धेनवो गुः । स्तनाभुजो अशिश्वीः ॥

mā kasmai dhātamabhyamitriṇe no mākutrā no gṛhebhyo dhenavo guḥ | stanābhujo aśiśvīḥ ||

deliver us not, Aśvins, to our enemies; never may our cows, who nourish us with their udders, stray from our houses, separated from their calves.

दुहीयन्मित्रधितये युवाकु राये च नो मिमीतं वाजवत्यै । इषे च नो मिमीतं धेनुमत्यै ॥

duhīyanmitradhitaye yuvāku rāye ca no mimītaṃ vājavatyai | iṣe ca no mimītaṃ dhenumatyai ||

Those who adore you obtain (wealth) for the support of their friends; direct us to opulence, bestowing food; direct us to food, associated with kine.

अश्विनोरसनं रथमनश्वं वाजिनीवतोः । तेनाहं भूरि चाकन ॥

aśvinorasanaṃ rathamanaśvaṃ vājinīvatoḥ | tenāhaṃ bhūri cākana ||

I have obtained, without horses, the car of the food-bestowing Aśvins, and expect (to gain) by it much (wealth).

अयं समह मा तनूह्याते जनाँ अनु । सोमपेयं सुखो रथः ॥

ayaṃ samaha mā tanūhyāte janā~ anu | somapeyaṃ sukho rathaḥ ||

This (is he who has obtained you), wealth- bearing (car); augment (my prosperity); may the delightful car bear the Soma beverage (to the Aśvins).

अध स्वप्नस्य निर्विदेऽभुञ्जतश्च रेवतः । उभा ता बस्रि नश्यतः ॥

adha svapnasya nirvide'bhuñjataśca revataḥ | ubhā tā basri naśyataḥ ||

Now am I disdainful of sleep, and of the rich man who benefits not others, for both (the morning sleep and the selfish rich man) quickly perish.
