[rv-1-11] • 8 श्लोकाः

इन्द्रं विश्वा अवीवृधन्त्समुद्रव्यचसं गिरः । रथीतमं रथीनां वाजानां सत्पतिं पतिम् ॥

indraṃ viśvā avīvṛdhantsamudravyacasaṃ giraḥ | rathītamaṃ rathīnāṃ vājānāṃ satpatiṃ patim ||

All our praises magnify Indra, expansive as the ocean, the most valiant of warriors who fight in chariots, the lord of food, the protector of the virtuous.

सख्ये त इन्द्र वाजिनो मा भेम शवसस्पते । त्वामभि प्र णोनुमो जेतारमपराजितम् ॥

sakhye ta indra vājino mā bhema śavasaspate | tvāmabhi pra ṇonumo jetāramaparājitam ||

Supported by your friendship, Indra, cherisher of strength, we have no fear, but glorify you, the conqueror, the unconquered.

पूर्वीरिन्द्रस्य रातयो न वि दस्यन्त्यूतयः । यदी वाजस्य गोमतः स्तोतृभ्यो मंहते मघम् ॥

pūrvīrindrasya rātayo na vi dasyantyūtayaḥ | yadī vājasya gomataḥ stotṛbhyo maṃhate magham ||

The ancient liberalities of Indra, his protections, will not be wanting to him who presents to the reciters of the hymns, wealth of food and cattle.

पुरां भिन्दुर्युवा कविरमितौजा अजायत । इन्द्रो विश्वस्य कर्मणो धर्ता वज्री पुरुष्टुतः ॥

purāṃ bhinduryuvā kaviramitaujā ajāyata | indro viśvasya karmaṇo dhartā vajrī puruṣṭutaḥ ||

Indra was born the destroyer of cities, ever young, ever wise, of unbounded strength, the sustainer of all pious acts, the wielder of the thunderbolt, the many-praised.

त्वं वलस्य गोमतोऽपावरद्रिवो बिलम् । त्वां देवा अबिभ्युषस्तुज्यमानास आविषुः ॥

tvaṃ valasya gomato'pāvaradrivo bilam | tvāṃ devā abibhyuṣastujyamānāsa āviṣuḥ ||

Your, wielder of the thunderbolt, did open the cave of Vala, who had there concealed the cattle; and the gods whom he had oppressed, no longer feared when they had obtained you (for their ally).

तवाहं शूर रातिभिः प्रत्यायं सिन्धुमावदन् । उपातिष्ठन्त गिर्वणो विदुष्टे तस्य कारवः ॥

tavāhaṃ śūra rātibhiḥ pratyāyaṃ sindhumāvadan | upātiṣṭhanta girvaṇo viduṣṭe tasya kāravaḥ ||

(Attracted) by your bounties, I again come, Hero, to you, celebrating (your liberality) while offering this libation; the performers of the rite approach you, who are worthy of praise, for they have known your (munificence).

मायाभिरिन्द्र मायिनं त्वं शुष्णमवातिरः । विदुष्टे तस्य मेधिरास्तेषां श्रवांस्युत्तिर ॥

māyābhirindra māyinaṃ tvaṃ śuṣṇamavātiraḥ | viduṣṭe tasya medhirāsteṣāṃ śravāṃsyuttira ||

Your slewest, Indra, by stratagems, the wily Śuṣṇa; the wise have known of this your (greatness); bestow upon them (abundant) food.

इन्द्रमीशानमोजसाभि स्तोमा अनूषत । सहस्रं यस्य रातय उत वा सन्ति भूयसीः ॥

indramīśānamojasābhi stomā anūṣata | sahasraṃ yasya rātaya uta vā santi bhūyasīḥ ||

The reciters of sacred hymns praise with all their might, Indra, the ruler of the world, whose bounties are (computed) by thousands or even more.
