स यो वृषा वृष्ण्येभिः समोका महो दिवः पृथिव्याश्च सम्राट् । सतीनसत्वा हव्यो भरेषु मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

sa yo vṛṣā vṛṣṇyebhiḥ samokā maho divaḥ pṛthivyāśca samrāṭ | satīnasatvā havyo bhareṣu marutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

May he who is the showerer of desires, who is co-dweller with (all) energies the supreme ruler over the vast heaven and earth, the sender of water, and to be invoked in battles; may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

यस्यानाप्तः सूर्यस्येव यामो भरेभरे वृत्रहा शुष्मो अस्ति । वृषन्तमः सखिभिः स्वेभिरेवैर्मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

yasyānāptaḥ sūryasyeva yāmo bharebhare vṛtrahā śuṣmo asti | vṛṣantamaḥ sakhibhiḥ svebhirevairmarutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

May he whose course, like that of the sun, is not to be overtaken, who in every battle is the slayer of his foes, the witherer (of opponents), who, with his swift-moving friends (the winds), is the most bountiful (of givers); may Indra, associated with the Maruts be our protection.

दिवो न यस्य रेतसो दुघानाः पन्थासो यन्ति शवसापरीताः । तरद्द्वेषाः सासहिः पौंस्येभिर्मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

divo na yasya retaso dughānāḥ panthāso yanti śavasāparītāḥ | taraddveṣāḥ sāsahiḥ pauṃsyebhirmarutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

May he, whose rays, powerful and unattainable issue forth like those of the sun, milking (the clouds); he who is victorious over his adversaries, triumphant by his manly energies; may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

सो अङ्गिरोभिरङ्गिरस्तमो भूद्वृषा वृषभिः सखिभिः सखा सन् । ऋग्मिभिॠग्मी गातुभिर्ज्येष्ठो मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

so aṅgirobhiraṅgirastamo bhūdvṛṣā vṛṣabhiḥ sakhibhiḥ sakhā san | ṛgmibhiṝgmī gātubhirjyeṣṭho marutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

He is the swiftest among the swift, most bountiful amongst the bountiful, a friend with friends, venerable among those who claim veneration, and pre-eminent among those deserving of praise; may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

स सूनुभिर्न रुद्रेभिॠभ्वा नृषाह्ये सासह्वाँ अमित्रान् । सनीऴेभिः श्रवस्यानि तूर्वन्मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

sa sūnubhirna rudrebhiṝbhvā nṛṣāhye sāsahvā~ amitrān | sanīḻebhiḥ śravasyāni tūrvanmarutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

Mighty with the Rudras, as if with his sons, victorious in battle over his enemies, and sending down with his co-dwellers (the waters which are productive of) food; Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

स मन्युमीः समदनस्य कर्तास्माकेभिर्नृभिः सूर्यं सनत् । अस्मिन्नहन्त्सत्पतिः पुरुहूतो मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

sa manyumīḥ samadanasya kartāsmākebhirnṛbhiḥ sūryaṃ sanat | asminnahantsatpatiḥ puruhūto marutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

May he, the represser of (hostile) wrath, the author of war, the protector of the good, the invoked of many, share with our people on this day the (light of the) sun; may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

तमूतयो रणयञ्छूरसातौ तं क्षेमस्य क्षितयः कृण्वत त्राम् । स विश्वस्य करुणस्येश एको मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

tamūtayo raṇayañchūrasātau taṃ kṣemasya kṣitayaḥ kṛṇvata trām | sa viśvasya karuṇasyeśa eko marutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

Hi, his allies, the Maruts, animate in battle; him, men regard as the preserver of their property; he alone presides over every act of worship; may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

तमप्सन्त शवस उत्सवेषु नरो नरमवसे तं धनाय । सो अन्धे चित्तमसि ज्योतिर्विदन्मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

tamapsanta śavasa utsaveṣu naro naramavase taṃ dhanāya | so andhe cittamasi jyotirvidanmarutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

To him, a leader (to victory), his worshippers apply in contests of strength for protection and for wealth, as he grants them the light (of conquest) in the bewildering darkness (of battle); may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

स सव्येन यमति व्राधतश्चित्स दक्षिणे संगृभीता कृतानि । स कीरिणा चित्सनिता धनानि मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

sa savyena yamati vrādhataścitsa dakṣiṇe saṃgṛbhītā kṛtāni | sa kīriṇā citsanitā dhanāni marutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

With his left hand he restrains the malignant, with his right he receives the (sacrificial) offerings; he is the giver of riches, (when propitiated) by one who celebrates his praise; may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

स ग्रामेभिः सनिता स रथेभिर्विदे विश्वाभिः कृष्टिभिर्न्वद्य । स पौंस्येभिरभिभूरशस्तीर्मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

sa grāmebhiḥ sanitā sa rathebhirvide viśvābhiḥ kṛṣṭibhirnvadya | sa pauṃsyebhirabhibhūraśastīrmarutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

He, along with his attendants, is a benefactor; he is quickly recognized by all men today, through his chariots; by his manly energies he is victor over unruly (adversaries); may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

स जामिभिर्यत्समजाति मीऴ्हेऽजामिभिर्वा पुरुहूत एवैः । अपां तोकस्य तनयस्य जेषे मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

sa jāmibhiryatsamajāti mīḻhe'jāmibhirvā puruhūta evaiḥ | apāṃ tokasya tanayasya jeṣe marutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

Invoked by many, he goes to battle with his kinsmen, or with (followers) not of his kindred; he secures the (triumph) of those who trust him, and of their sons and grandsons; may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

स वज्रभृद्दस्युहा भीम उग्रः सहस्रचेताः शतनीथ ऋभ्वा । चम्रीषो न शवसा पाञ्चजन्यो मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

sa vajrabhṛddasyuhā bhīma ugraḥ sahasracetāḥ śatanītha ṛbhvā | camrīṣo na śavasā pāñcajanyo marutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

He is the wielder of the thunderbolt, the slayer of robbers, fearful and fierce, knowing many things, much eulogized and mighty, and like the Soma, inspiring the five classes of beings with vigour; may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

तस्य वज्रः क्रन्दति स्मत्स्वर्षा दिवो न त्वेषो रवथः शिमीवान् । तं सचन्ते सनयस्तं धनानि मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

tasya vajraḥ krandati smatsvarṣā divo na tveṣo ravathaḥ śimīvān | taṃ sacante sanayastaṃ dhanāni marutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

His thunderbolt draws cries (from his enemies), he is the sender of good waters, brilliant as (the luminary) of heaven, the thunderer, the promoter of beneficent acts, upon him do donations and riches attend; may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

यस्याजस्रं शवसा मानमुक्थं परिभुजद्रोदसी विश्वतः सीम् । स पारिषत्क्रतुभिर्मन्दसानो मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

yasyājasraṃ śavasā mānamukthaṃ paribhujadrodasī viśvataḥ sīm | sa pāriṣatkratubhirmandasāno marutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

May he, of whom the excellent measure (of all things), through strength, eternally and everywhere cherishes heaven and earth, propitiated by our acts, convey us beyond (evil); may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

न यस्य देवा देवता न मर्ता आपश्चन शवसो अन्तमापुः । स प्ररिक्वा त्वक्षसा क्ष्मो दिवश्च मरुत्वान्नो भवत्विन्द्र ऊती ॥

na yasya devā devatā na martā āpaścana śavaso antamāpuḥ | sa prarikvā tvakṣasā kṣmo divaśca marutvānno bhavatvindra ūtī ||

Nor gods, nor men, nor waters, have reached the limit of the strength of that beneficent (divinity) for he surpasses both earth and heaven by his foe-consuming (might); may Indra, associated with the Maruts, be our protection.

रोहिच्छ्यावा सुमदंशुर्ललामीर्द्युक्षा राय ऋज्राश्वस्य । वृषण्वन्तं बिभ्रती धूर्षु रथं मन्द्रा चिकेत नाहुषीषु विक्षु ॥

rohicchyāvā sumadaṃśurlalāmīrdyukṣā rāya ṛjrāśvasya | vṛṣaṇvantaṃ bibhratī dhūrṣu rathaṃ mandrā ciketa nāhuṣīṣu vikṣu ||

The red and black coursers, long-limbed, well-caparisoned, and celestial, an dharnessed, well-plural ased, to the yoke of the chariot in which the showerer of benefits is conveyed, for the enrichment of Ṛjrāśva, an dis recognized amongst human hosts.

एतत्त्यत्त इन्द्र वृष्ण उक्थं वार्षागिरा अभि गृणन्ति राधः । ऋज्राश्वः प्रष्टिभिरम्बरीषः सहदेवो भयमानः सुराधाः ॥

etattyatta indra vṛṣṇa ukthaṃ vārṣāgirā abhi gṛṇanti rādhaḥ | ṛjrāśvaḥ praṣṭibhirambarīṣaḥ sahadevo bhayamānaḥ surādhāḥ ||

Indra, showerer (of benefits), the Vārṣāgirās, Ṛjrāśva and his companions, Ambariṣa, Sahadeva, Bhayamāna, and Surādhās, address to you this propitiatory praise].

दस्यूञ्छिम्यूँश्च पुरुहूत एवैर्हत्वा पृथिव्यां शर्वा नि बर्हीत् । सनत्क्षेत्रं सखिभिः श्वित्न्येभिः सनत्सूर्यं सनदपः सुवज्रः ॥

dasyūñchimyū~śca puruhūta evairhatvā pṛthivyāṃ śarvā ni barhīt | sanatkṣetraṃ sakhibhiḥ śvitnyebhiḥ sanatsūryaṃ sanadapaḥ suvajraḥ ||

Indra, who is invoked by many, attended by the moving (Maruts), having attacked the Dasyus and the Śimyus, slew them with his thunderbolt; the thunderer then divided the fields with his white-complexioned friends, and rescued the sun and set free the water.

विश्वाहेन्द्रो अधिवक्ता नो अस्त्वपरिह्वृताः सनुयाम वाजम् । तन्नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्तामदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी उत द्यौः ॥

viśvāhendro adhivaktā no astvaparihvṛtāḥ sanuyāma vājam | tanno mitro varuṇo māmahantāmaditiḥ sindhuḥ pṛthivī uta dyauḥ ||

May Indra be daily our vindicator, and may we, with undiverted course, enjoy (abundant) food; and may Mitra, Varuṇa, Aditi--ocean, earth and heaven, preserve it to us].
