A synonym for महालक्ष्मी . There is a story in the एइघ्थ् स्कन्ध of देवी भागवत as to how the name रमा came to be attached to लक्ष्मी .

रेवन्त , the very handsome son of सूर्य one day came to वैकुण्ठ mounted on his horse उच्चैश्श्रवस् to pay his respects to महाविष्णु . Even लक्ष्मीदेवी stood aghast speechless for a very short time at the charm of रेवन्त changing her looks between him and his horse. महाविष्णु did not at all like this and cursed that since Lakṣmī's eyes enjoyed the sight of some one she would come to be called रमा also and that she would be born as a mare on earth.
