[rv-8-71] • 15 श्लोकाः

त्वं नो अग्ने महोभिः पाहि विश्वस्या अरातेः । उत द्विषो मर्त्यस्य ॥

tvaṃ no agne mahobhiḥ pāhi viśvasyā arāteḥ | uta dviṣo martyasya ||

Agni, do you protect us by great wealh from every niggard and mortal foe.

नहि मन्युः पौरुषेय ईशे हि वः प्रियजात । त्वमिदसि क्षपावान् ॥

nahi manyuḥ pauruṣeya īśe hi vaḥ priyajāta | tvamidasi kṣapāvān ||

O you who was born loved, no human anger can hrm you-- you only are the lord of night.

स नो विश्वेभिर्देवेभिरूर्जो नपाद्भद्रशोचे । रयिं देहि विश्ववारम् ॥

sa no viśvebhirdevebhirūrjo napādbhadraśoce | rayiṃ dehi viśvavāram ||

Son of strength, auspicious in brilliance, associated with all the gods, give us all desirable wealth.

न तमग्ने अरातयो मर्तं युवन्त रायः । यं त्रायसे दाश्वांसम् ॥

na tamagne arātayo martaṃ yuvanta rāyaḥ | yaṃ trāyase dāśvāṃsam ||

That sacrificing mortal whom you, Agni, protect the niggardly cannot separate from wealht.

यं त्वं विप्र मेधसातावग्ने हिनोषि धनाय । स तवोती गोषु गन्ता ॥

yaṃ tvaṃ vipra medhasātāvagne hinoṣi dhanāya | sa tavotī goṣu gantā ||

Wise (Agni), he whom in his performance of the sacrifice you incite to attain wealth, by your protectionwalks (lord) among crowds of cattle.

त्वं रयिं पुरुवीरमग्ने दाशुषे मर्ताय । प्र णो नय वस्यो अच्छ ॥

tvaṃ rayiṃ puruvīramagne dāśuṣe martāya | pra ṇo naya vasyo accha ||

You, Agni give to the offerer wealth comprehending many male descendants; conduct us to affluence.

उरुष्या णो मा परा दा अघायते जातवेदः । दुराध्ये मर्ताय ॥

uruṣyā ṇo mā parā dā aghāyate jātavedaḥ | durādhye martāya ||

Defend us, Jātavedas; deliver us not over to the malevolent, to the man whose thoughts are evil.

अग्ने माकिष्टे देवस्य रातिमदेवो युयोत । त्वमीशिषे वसूनाम् ॥

agne mākiṣṭe devasya rātimadevo yuyota | tvamīśiṣe vasūnām ||

Agni, let not the godless take away the wealth which you, the divine, have given, for you are the lord oftreasures.

स नो वस्व उप मास्यूर्जो नपान्माहिनस्य । सखे वसो जरितृभ्यः ॥

sa no vasva upa māsyūrjo napānmāhinasya | sakhe vaso jaritṛbhyaḥ ||

Son of strength, the friend, the giver of dwellings, you get our abundant treasure to us your praisers.

अच्छा नः शीरशोचिषं गिरो यन्तु दर्शतम् । अच्छा यज्ञासो नमसा पुरूवसुं पुरुप्रशस्तमूतये ॥

acchā naḥ śīraśociṣaṃ giro yantu darśatam | acchā yajñāso namasā purūvasuṃ purupraśastamūtaye ||

Let our voices come near the beautiful (Agni) him who bears devouring flames; let our sacrifices withour oblations come near him, for our protection, who is rich in wealth and rich in praise.

अग्निं सूनुं सहसो जातवेदसं दानाय वार्याणाम् । द्विता यो भूदमृतो मर्त्येष्वा होता मन्द्रतमो विशि ॥

agniṃ sūnuṃ sahaso jātavedasaṃ dānāya vāryāṇām | dvitā yo bhūdamṛto martyeṣvā hotā mandratamo viśi ||

(Let them come near) Agni, Jātavedas, son of strength, for the giving of all desirable good things, whois doubly immortal as (perpetually burning) among priests, among the sacrificers.

अग्निं वो देवयज्ययाग्निं प्रयत्यध्वरे । अग्निं धीषु प्रथममग्निमर्वत्यग्निं क्षैत्राय साधसे ॥

agniṃ vo devayajyayāgniṃ prayatyadhvare | agniṃ dhīṣu prathamamagnimarvatyagniṃ kṣaitrāya sādhase ||

I praise Agni, (O sacrificers), for the inauguration of your divine offering; (I praise him) when thesacrifice is proceeding; (I praise) Agni first of the gods, at our rites; (I praise) Agni when the enemy approaches; (Ipraise) Agni for the attainment of land.

अग्निरिषां सख्ये ददातु न ईशे यो वार्याणाम् । अग्निं तोके तनये शश्वदीमहे वसुं सन्तं तनूपाम् ॥

agniriṣāṃ sakhye dadātu na īśe yo vāryāṇām | agniṃ toke tanaye śaśvadīmahe vasuṃ santaṃ tanūpām ||

May Agni in his friendship give us food for he is the lord of all desirable things; we solicit abundance forour sons and grandsons from Agni, who is the giver of dwellings and the protector of our bodies.

अग्निमीऴिष्वावसे गाथाभिः शीरशोचिषम् । अग्निं राये पुरुमीऴ्ह श्रुतं नरोऽग्निं सुदीतये छर्दिः ॥

agnimīḻiṣvāvase gāthābhiḥ śīraśociṣam | agniṃ rāye purumīḻha śrutaṃ naro'gniṃ sudītaye chardiḥ ||

Land with your hymns for our protection, Agni, whose splendour lie outspread; laud Agni for wealth, OPurumīḷha, for other offerers are lauding that far famed one on their own behalf; solicit of Agni a house for (me)Sudīti.

अग्निं द्वेषो योतवै नो गृणीमस्यग्निं शं योश्च दातवे । विश्वासु विक्ष्ववितेव हव्यो भुवद्वस्तुॠषूणाम् ॥

agniṃ dveṣo yotavai no gṛṇīmasyagniṃ śaṃ yośca dātave | viśvāsu vikṣvaviteva havyo bhuvadvastuṝṣūṇām ||

We praise Agni that he may keep off our enemies; we praise Agni that he may give us joy and security;he may be worshipped as the giver of dwellings to the ṛṣis; he who is as it were the protector of all men.
