[rv-8-51] • 10 श्लोकाः

यथा मनौ सांवरणौ सोममिन्द्रापिबः सुतम् । नीपातिथौ मघवन्मेध्यातिथौ पुष्टिगौ श्रुष्टिगौ सचा ॥

yathā manau sāṃvaraṇau somamindrāpibaḥ sutam | nīpātithau maghavanmedhyātithau puṣṭigau śruṣṭigau sacā ||

As you did drink, O Indra, the effused Soma beside Manu, the descendant of Saṃvaraṇa, byNīpātithi and Medhyātithi, by Puṣṭigu and Śruṣṭigu, O Maghavan (so do you drink it here).

पार्षद्वाणः प्रस्कण्वं समसादयच्छयानं जिव्रिमुद्धितम् । सहस्राण्यसिषासद्गवामृषिस्त्वोतो दस्यवे वृकः ॥

pārṣadvāṇaḥ praskaṇvaṃ samasādayacchayānaṃ jivrimuddhitam | sahasrāṇyasiṣāsadgavāmṛṣistvoto dasyave vṛkaḥ ||

The descendant of Pṛṣadvana entertained the aged Praskaṇva who lay rejected (by his kindred);aided by you the seer Dasyave-vṛka desired to obtain thousands of cows.

य उक्थेभिर्न विन्धते चिकिद्य ऋषिचोदनः । इन्द्रं तमच्छा वद नव्यस्या मत्यरिष्यन्तं न भोजसे ॥

ya ukthebhirna vindhate cikidya ṛṣicodanaḥ | indraṃ tamacchā vada navyasyā matyariṣyantaṃ na bhojase ||

Sing that Indra with the new hymn who has no lack of praises, who is wise and the inspirer of seers,who is as it were eager to enjoy.

यस्मा अर्कं सप्तशीर्षाणमानृचुस्त्रिधातुमुत्तमे पदे । स त्विमा विश्वा भुवनानि चिक्रददादिज्जनिष्ट पौंस्यम् ॥

yasmā arkaṃ saptaśīrṣāṇamānṛcustridhātumuttame pade | sa tvimā viśvā bhuvanāni cikradadādijjaniṣṭa pauṃsyam ||

He to whom they sang the seven-headed hymn with its three parts in the highest region, he has madeall these worlds tremble, and has thus brought forth his power.

यो नो दाता वसूनामिन्द्रं तं हूमहे वयम् । विद्मा ह्यस्य सुमतिं नवीयसीं गमेम गोमति व्रजे ॥

yo no dātā vasūnāmindraṃ taṃ hūmahe vayam | vidmā hyasya sumatiṃ navīyasīṃ gamema gomati vraje ||

We invoke that Indra who gives us wealth; for we know his new favour; may we obtain a stall rich incows.

यस्मै त्वं वसो दानाय शिक्षसि स रायस्पोषमश्नुते । तं त्वा वयं मघवन्निन्द्र गिर्वणः सुतावन्तो हवामहे ॥

yasmai tvaṃ vaso dānāya śikṣasi sa rāyaspoṣamaśnute | taṃ tvā vayaṃ maghavannindra girvaṇaḥ sutāvanto havāmahe ||

He whom you help, O gracious one, to give, obtains abundance of wealth; bringing the Soma we invokeyou, Indra, Maghavan, you that love hymns.

कदा चन स्तरीरसि नेन्द्र सश्चसि दाशुषे । उपोपेन्नु मघवन्भूय इन्नु ते दानं देवस्य पृच्यते ॥

kadā cana starīrasi nendra saścasi dāśuṣe | upopennu maghavanbhūya innu te dānaṃ devasya pṛcyate ||

Never are you niggardly, Indra, and give not to the worshipper; but your godlike gifts, O Maghavan, arepoured forth more and more.

प्र यो ननक्षे अभ्योजसा क्रिविं वधैः शुष्णं निघोषयन् । यदेदस्तम्भीत्प्रथयन्नमूं दिवमादिज्जनिष्ट पार्थिवः ॥

pra yo nanakṣe abhyojasā kriviṃ vadhaiḥ śuṣṇaṃ nighoṣayan | yadedastambhītprathayannamūṃ divamādijjaniṣṭa pārthivaḥ ||

He who overpowered Krivi by his might and silences Suṣṇa with his weapons, when he spread abroadyonder sky and propped it up, then first the dweller on earth was born.

यस्यायं विश्व आर्यो दासः शेवधिपा अरिः । तिरश्चिदर्ये रुशमे परीरवि तुभ्येत्सो अज्यते रयिः ॥

yasyāyaṃ viśva āryo dāsaḥ śevadhipā ariḥ | tiraścidarye ruśame parīravi tubhyetso ajyate rayiḥ ||

That wealth, which every Ārya here covets and every miserly Dāsa, is sent direct to yo, the piousRuśama Paviru.

तुरण्यवो मधुमन्तं घृतश्चुतं विप्रासो अर्कमानृचुः । अस्मे रयिः पप्रथे वृष्ण्यं शवोऽस्मे सुवानास इन्दवः ॥

turaṇyavo madhumantaṃ ghṛtaścutaṃ viprāso arkamānṛcuḥ | asme rayiḥ paprathe vṛṣṇyaṃ śavo'sme suvānāsa indavaḥ ||

The zealous seers have sung a hymn, sweet with Soma and dropping ghī; wealth and manly strengthhav espread themselves among us, and so too the expressed Soma drops.
