[rv-8-49] • 10 श्लोकाः

अभि प्र वः सुराधसमिन्द्रमर्च यथा विदे । यो जरितृभ्यो मघवा पुरूवसुः सहस्रेणेव शिक्षति ॥

abhi pra vaḥ surādhasamindramarca yathā vide | yo jaritṛbhyo maghavā purūvasuḥ sahasreṇeva śikṣati ||

I would praise to you the bounteous Indra as is fit, the wealth- abounding Maghavan, who loves to helpwith thousandfold treasure those who praise him.

शतानीकेव प्र जिगाति धृष्णुया हन्ति वृत्राणि दाशुषे । गिरेरिव प्र रसा अस्य पिन्विरे दत्राणि पुरुभोजसः ॥

śatānīkeva pra jigāti dhṛṣṇuyā hanti vṛtrāṇi dāśuṣe | gireriva pra rasā asya pinvire datrāṇi purubhojasaḥ ||

He rushes on boldly like a weapon with a hundred edges, he smites the enemies of his worshipper; thegifts of him who feeds many, swell like the streams of a mountain.

आ त्वा सुतास इन्दवो मदा य इन्द्र गिर्वणः । आपो न वज्रिन्नन्वोक्यं सरः पृणन्ति शूर राधसे ॥

ā tvā sutāsa indavo madā ya indra girvaṇaḥ | āpo na vajrinnanvokyaṃ saraḥ pṛṇanti śūra rādhase ||

The expressed exhilarate Soma, O Indra, lover of hymns, fills you for bounty, O hero, O thunderer, asthe waters flow to their accusative tomed lake.

अनेहसं प्रतरणं विवक्षणं मध्वः स्वादिष्ठमीं पिब । आ यथा मन्दसानः किरासि नः प्र क्षुद्रेव त्मना धृषत् ॥

anehasaṃ prataraṇaṃ vivakṣaṇaṃ madhvaḥ svādiṣṭhamīṃ piba | ā yathā mandasānaḥ kirāsi naḥ pra kṣudreva tmanā dhṛṣat ||

Drink the incomparable, helpful, swelling Soma, the sweet of the Soma, that in your exultation you maypour out treasure for us, just as the mill-stone pours out meal.

आ नः स्तोममुप द्रवद्धियानो अश्वो न सोतृभिः । यं ते स्वधावन्त्स्वदयन्ति धेनव इन्द्र कण्वेषु रातयः ॥

ā naḥ stomamupa dravaddhiyāno aśvo na sotṛbhiḥ | yaṃ te svadhāvantsvadayanti dhenava indra kaṇveṣu rātayaḥ ||

Come quickly to our praise--urged on by the Soma-pressers like a horse- - which the kine make sweet,for you, O Indra, of independent mighty; there are gifts (for you) among the Kaṇva's.

उग्रं न वीरं नमसोप सेदिम विभूतिमक्षितावसुम् । उद्रीव वज्रिन्नवतो न सिञ्चते क्षरन्तीन्द्र धीतयः ॥

ugraṃ na vīraṃ namasopa sedima vibhūtimakṣitāvasum | udrīva vajrinnavato na siñcate kṣarantīndra dhītayaḥ ||

We have approached you with homage like a mighty hero, the pre-eminent one, of imperishable wealth;O Indra, thunderer, our prayers flow forth as an abundant fountain pours out its streams.

यद्ध नूनं यद्वा यज्ञे यद्वा पृथिव्यामधि । अतो नो यज्ञमाशुभिर्महेमत उग्र उग्रेभिरा गहि ॥

yaddha nūnaṃ yadvā yajñe yadvā pṛthivyāmadhi | ato no yajñamāśubhirmahemata ugra ugrebhirā gahi ||

Whether you are now present at a sacrifice, or whether you are abroad on the earth, come from thencewith your swift steeds to our sacrifice, O you of lofty counsel, come, strong one, with the strong (steeds).

अजिरासो हरयो ये त आशवो वाता इव प्रसक्षिणः । येभिरपत्यं मनुषः परीयसे येभिर्विश्वं स्वर्दृशे ॥

ajirāso harayo ye ta āśavo vātā iva prasakṣiṇaḥ | yebhirapatyaṃ manuṣaḥ parīyase yebhirviśvaṃ svardṛśe ||

Agile and swift are your steeds, overpowering like the winds; with which you encircle the race of Manus,with which he whole heaven becomes visible.

एतावतस्त ईमह इन्द्र सुम्नस्य गोमतः । यथा प्रावो मघवन्मेध्यातिथिं यथा नीपातिथिं धने ॥

etāvatasta īmaha indra sumnasya gomataḥ | yathā prāvo maghavanmedhyātithiṃ yathā nīpātithiṃ dhane ||

O Indra, we long for such a bounty of yours, rich in kine; (help us), Maghavan, as you did helpMedhyātithi with wealth, as you did help Nīpātithi.

यथा कण्वे मघवन्त्रसदस्यवि यथा पक्थे दशव्रजे । यथा गोशर्ये असनोॠजिश्वनीन्द्र गोमद्धिरण्यवत् ॥

yathā kaṇve maghavantrasadasyavi yathā pakthe daśavraje | yathā gośarye asanoṝjiśvanīndra gomaddhiraṇyavat ||

As you, Mahavan, did give abundant kine and gold to Kaṇva and Trasadasyu, to Paktha andDaśavraja; as you did give them to Gośarya and Ṛjiśvan.
