[rv-8-47] • 18 श्लोकाः

महि वो महतामवो वरुण मित्र दाशुषे । यमादित्या अभि द्रुहो रक्षथा नेमघं नशदनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

mahi vo mahatāmavo varuṇa mitra dāśuṣe | yamādityā abhi druho rakṣathā nemaghaṃ naśadanehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Mitra and Varuṇa, you are great, and great is your protection to the offerer; no evil, Ādityas, harmshim whom you guard from the injurer; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

विदा देवा अघानामादित्यासो अपाकृतिम् । पक्षा वयो यथोपरि व्यस्मे शर्म यच्छतानेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

vidā devā aghānāmādityāso apākṛtim | pakṣā vayo yathopari vyasme śarma yacchatānehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Divine Ādityas, you know the averting of evils; as birds (spread) their wings over (their) young, grantus happiness; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

व्यस्मे अधि शर्म तत्पक्षा वयो न यन्तन । विश्वानि विश्ववेदसो वरूथ्या मनामहेऽनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

vyasme adhi śarma tatpakṣā vayo na yantana | viśvāni viśvavedaso varūthyā manāmahe'nehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Grant us that happiness of yours, as birds (spread) their wings; O you possessed of all wealth, wesolicit all riches suitable for our dwelling; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

यस्मा अरासत क्षयं जीवातुं च प्रचेतसः । मनोर्विश्वस्य घेदिम आदित्या राय ईशतेऽनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

yasmā arāsata kṣayaṃ jīvātuṃ ca pracetasaḥ | manorviśvasya ghedima ādityā rāya īśate'nehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

To whomsoever these wise Ādityas gran a dwelling and the means of life, (for him) they master thewealth of every man; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

परि णो वृणजन्नघा दुर्गाणि रथ्यो यथा । स्यामेदिन्द्रस्य शर्मण्यादित्यानामुतावस्यनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

pari ṇo vṛṇajannaghā durgāṇi rathyo yathā | syāmedindrasya śarmaṇyādityānāmutāvasyanehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

May our sins avoid us as charioteers inaccessible plural ce; may we abide in Indra's happiness and in theprotection of the Ādiyas; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

परिह्वृतेदना जनो युष्मादत्तस्य वायति । देवा अदभ्रमाश वो यमादित्या अहेतनानेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

parihvṛtedanā jano yuṣmādattasya vāyati | devā adabhramāśa vo yamādityā ahetanānehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Only by painful means does a living man obtain the wealth which you bestow; but he whom you, divineĀdityas, visit, wins great (riches); your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

न तं तिग्मं चन त्यजो न द्रासदभि तं गुरु । यस्मा उ शर्म सप्रथ आदित्यासो अराध्वमनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

na taṃ tigmaṃ cana tyajo na drāsadabhi taṃ guru | yasmā u śarma sapratha ādityāso arādhvamanehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Him fierce wrath touches not, nor heavy (calamity), to whom, Ādityas, you have given greathappiness; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

युष्मे देवा अपि ष्मसि युध्यन्त इव वर्मसु । यूयं महो न एनसो यूयमर्भादुरुष्यतानेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

yuṣme devā api ṣmasi yudhyanta iva varmasu | yūyaṃ maho na enaso yūyamarbhāduruṣyatānehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Deities, may we abide in you as warriors in their armour; do you defend us from great evil, do youdefend us from litt;e your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

अदितिर्न उरुष्यत्वदितिः शर्म यच्छतु । माता मित्रस्य रेवतोऽर्यम्णो वरुणस्य चानेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

aditirna uruṣyatvaditiḥ śarma yacchatu | mātā mitrasya revato'ryamṇo varuṇasya cānehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

May Aditi defend us, may Aditi grant us happiness, the mother of the wealthy Mitra, Aryama andVaruṇa; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

यद्देवाः शर्म शरणं यद्भद्रं यदनातुरम् । त्रिधातु यद्वरूथ्यं तदस्मासु वि यन्तनानेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

yaddevāḥ śarma śaraṇaṃ yadbhadraṃ yadanāturam | tridhātu yadvarūthyaṃ tadasmāsu vi yantanānehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Grant to us, deities, that happiness which is a refuge, auspicious, and free from sickness, which isthreefold and fit for a (secure) shelter; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

आदित्या अव हि ख्यताधि कूलादिव स्पशः । सुतीर्थमर्वतो यथानु नो नेषथा सुगमनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

ādityā ava hi khyatādhi kūlādiva spaśaḥ | sutīrthamarvato yathānu no neṣathā sugamanehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Ādityas, look down upon us as those who look from the shore; as (men lead) their horses to a secureGhāṭa, so conduct us along a good path; your aids are void of harm, your aids are void of harm, your aids aretrue aids.

नेह भद्रं रक्षस्विने नावयै नोपया उत । गवे च भद्रं धेनवे वीराय च श्रवस्यतेऽनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

neha bhadraṃ rakṣasvine nāvayai nopayā uta | gave ca bhadraṃ dhenave vīrāya ca śravasyate'nehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Let there not be prosperit here to our powerul (foe), nor to him who threaten or assails us; but let therebe prosperity to our cattle, our kine, and our male offspring desirous of food; your aids are void of harm, your aidsare true aids.

यदाविर्यदपीच्यं देवासो अस्ति दुष्कृतम् । त्रिते तद्विश्वमाप्त्य आरे अस्मद्दधातनानेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

yadāviryadapīcyaṃ devāso asti duṣkṛtam | trite tadviśvamāptya āre asmaddadhātanānehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Deities, whatever evil is manifest, whatever is concealed, (let it be not found) in Trita Āptya, keep it farfrom us; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

यच्च गोषु दुष्ष्वप्न्यं यच्चास्मे दुहितर्दिवः । त्रिताय तद्विभावर्याप्त्याय परा वहानेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

yacca goṣu duṣṣvapnyaṃ yaccāsme duhitardivaḥ | tritāya tadvibhāvaryāptyāya parā vahānehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Daughter of heaven, (Uṣas), whatever ill-omened dream threatens our cattle, keep it, O brilliant one,far from Trita Āptya; y our aids are void of harm, your aids, are true aids.

निष्कं वा घा कृणवते स्रजं वा दुहितर्दिवः । त्रिते दुष्ष्वप्न्यं सर्वमाप्त्ये परि दद्मस्यनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

niṣkaṃ vā ghā kṛṇavate srajaṃ vā duhitardivaḥ | trite duṣṣvapnyaṃ sarvamāptye pari dadmasyanehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Daughter of heaven, whatever ill-omened dream threatens Trita Āptya, we transfer it to the worker ofgold ornaments or to the maker of garlands; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.

तदन्नाय तदपसे तं भागमुपसेदुषे । त्रिताय च द्विताय चोषो दुष्ष्वप्न्यं वहानेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

tadannāya tadapase taṃ bhāgamupaseduṣe | tritāya ca dvitāya coṣo duṣṣvapnyaṃ vahānehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

Uṣas, bear (elsewhere) the ill-omened dream for Trita and Dvita, who eat and do (in dreams) that(which is eaten and done amiss when awake) and who obtain that (inauspicious) portion; your aids are void ofharm, your aids are true aids.

यथा कलां यथा शफं यथ ऋणं संनयामसि । एवा दुष्ष्वप्न्यं सर्वमाप्त्ये सं नयामस्यनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

yathā kalāṃ yathā śaphaṃ yatha ṛṇaṃ saṃnayāmasi | evā duṣṣvapnyaṃ sarvamāptye saṃ nayāmasyanehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

As (in the sacrifice) we put severally together the proper parts and the hoofs, and as we discharge adebt, so we transfer all the ill-omened dream that rests on Āptya; your aids are void of harm, your aids are trueaids.

अजैष्माद्यासनाम चाभूमानागसो वयम् । उषो यस्माद्दुष्ष्वप्न्यादभैष्माप तदुच्छत्वनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥

ajaiṣmādyāsanāma cābhūmānāgaso vayam | uṣo yasmādduṣṣvapnyādabhaiṣmāpa taducchatvanehaso va ūtayaḥ sutayo va ūtayaḥ ||

May we be today victorious, and obtain (happiness); may we be free from evil; Uṣas, may that ill dreamdepart, of which we were afraid; your aids are void of harm, your aids are true aids.
