[rv-8-41] • 10 श्लोकाः

अस्मा ऊ षु प्रभूतये वरुणाय मरुद्भ्योऽर्चा विदुष्टरेभ्यः । यो धीता मानुषाणां पश्वो गा इव रक्षति नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

asmā ū ṣu prabhūtaye varuṇāya marudbhyo'rcā viduṣṭarebhyaḥ | yo dhītā mānuṣāṇāṃ paśvo gā iva rakṣati nabhantāmanyake same ||

Offer praise to that opulent Varuṇa, and to the most sage Maruts; (Varuṇa) who protects men by hisacts, as (the herdsman guards) the cattle; may all our adversaries perish.

तमू षु समना गिरा पितॄणां च मन्मभिः । नाभाकस्य प्रशस्तिभिर्यः सिन्धूनामुपोदये सप्तस्वसा स मध्यमो नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

tamū ṣu samanā girā pitṝṇāṃ ca manmabhiḥ | nābhākasya praśastibhiryaḥ sindhūnāmupodaye saptasvasā sa madhyamo nabhantāmanyake same ||

(I praise) with a like praise, with the praises of (my) progenitors, with the eulogies of Nabhāka, thatVaruṇa who rises up in the vicinity of the rivers, and in the midst (of them) has seven sisters; may all ouradversaries perish.

स क्षपः परि षस्वजे न्युस्रो मायया दधे स विश्वं परि दर्शतः । तस्य वेनीरनु व्रतमुषस्तिस्रो अवर्धयन्नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

sa kṣapaḥ pari ṣasvaje nyusro māyayā dadhe sa viśvaṃ pari darśataḥ | tasya venīranu vratamuṣastisro avardhayannabhantāmanyake same ||

He embraces the nights; of goodly aspect, and quick of movement, he encompasses the universe byhis acts; all who are desirous (of his favour) diligently offer him worship at the three diurnal rites; may all ouradversaries perish.

यः ककुभो निधारयः पृथिव्यामधि दर्शतः । स माता पूर्व्यं पदं तद्वरुणस्य सप्त्यं स हि गोपा इवेर्यो नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

yaḥ kakubho nidhārayaḥ pṛthivyāmadhi darśataḥ | sa mātā pūrvyaṃ padaṃ tadvaruṇasya saptyaṃ sa hi gopā iveryo nabhantāmanyake same ||

He, who visible above the earth sustains the points of the horizon, is the measurer (of the universe);that is the ancient abode of Varuṇa, to which we have access; he is our lord, like the keeper of cattle; may all ouradversaries perish.

यो धर्ता भुवनानां य उस्राणामपीच्या वेद नामानि गुह्या । स कविः काव्या पुरु रूपं द्यौरिव पुष्यति नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

yo dhartā bhuvanānāṃ ya usrāṇāmapīcyā veda nāmāni guhyā | sa kaviḥ kāvyā puru rūpaṃ dyauriva puṣyati nabhantāmanyake same ||

He who is the sustainer of the worlds, who knows the hidden and secret names of the (solar) rays, he isthe sage who cherishes the acts of sages, as the heaven cherishes numerous forms; may all our adversariesperish.

यस्मिन्विश्वानि काव्या चक्रे नाभिरिव श्रिता । त्रितं जूती सपर्यत व्रजे गावो न संयुजे युजे अश्वाँ अयुक्षत नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

yasminviśvāni kāvyā cakre nābhiriva śritā | tritaṃ jūtī saparyata vraje gāvo na saṃyuje yuje aśvā~ ayukṣata nabhantāmanyake same ||

In whom all pious acts are concentrated, like the nave in the (centre of the) wheel, worship him quicklywho abides in the three worlds; as men assemble the cattle in their pasture, so do (our foes) collect their horses(to assail us); may all our adversaries perish.

य आस्वत्क आशये विश्वा जातान्येषाम् । परि धामानि मर्मृशद्वरुणस्य पुरो गये विश्वे देवा अनु व्रतं नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

ya āsvatka āśaye viśvā jātānyeṣām | pari dhāmāni marmṛśadvaruṇasya puro gaye viśve devā anu vrataṃ nabhantāmanyake same ||

He who, passing amid those (regions of the firmament), given refuge to all their races, and all thedeities precede the chariot of Varuṇa, when manifesting his glories to perform his worship; may all ouradversaries perish.

स समुद्रो अपीच्यस्तुरो द्यामिव रोहति नि यदासु यजुर्दधे । स माया अर्चिना पदास्तृणान्नाकमारुहन्नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

sa samudro apīcyasturo dyāmiva rohati ni yadāsu yajurdadhe | sa māyā arcinā padāstṛṇānnākamāruhannabhantāmanyake same ||

He is the hidden ocean; swift he mounts (the heaven) as (the sun) the sky; when he has plural ced thesacrifice in those (regions of the firmament), he demolishes with his brilliant radiance the devices (of the asuras);he ascends to heaven; may all our adversaries perish.

यस्य श्वेता विचक्षणा तिस्रो भूमीरधिक्षितः । त्रिरुत्तराणि पप्रतुर्वरुणस्य ध्रुवं सदः स सप्तानामिरज्यति नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

yasya śvetā vicakṣaṇā tisro bhūmīradhikṣitaḥ | triruttarāṇi papraturvaruṇasya dhruvaṃ sadaḥ sa saptānāmirajyati nabhantāmanyake same ||

Of whom, present in the three worlds, the brilliant rays pervade the three realms beyond, the eternaldwelling of Varuṇa, he is lord of the seven (rivers); may all our adversaries perish.

यः श्वेताँ अधिनिर्णिजश्चक्रे कृष्णाँ अनु व्रता । स धाम पूर्व्यं ममे यः स्कम्भेन वि रोदसी अजो न द्यामधारयन्नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

yaḥ śvetā~ adhinirṇijaścakre kṛṣṇā~ anu vratā | sa dhāma pūrvyaṃ mame yaḥ skambhena vi rodasī ajo na dyāmadhārayannabhantāmanyake same ||

He who in his successive functions emits his bright rays or turns them dark, first made his residence (inthe firmament), and as the unborn sun the sky, supports with the pillar (of the firmament) both heaven and earth;may all our adversaries perish.
