[rv-8-39] • 10 श्लोकाः

अग्निमस्तोष्यृग्मियमग्निमीऴा यजध्यै । अग्निर्देवाँ अनक्तु न उभे हि विदथे कविरन्तश्चरति दूत्यं नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

agnimastoṣyṛgmiyamagnimīḻā yajadhyai | agnirdevā~ anaktu na ubhe hi vidathe kavirantaścarati dūtyaṃ nabhantāmanyake same ||

I glorify the adorable Agni, (I invite) Agni with praise to the sacrifice, may Agni brighten the gods with theoblations at our sacrifice; the sage Agni traverses both (worlds discharging his function) as messenger of thegods; may all our adversaries perish.

न्यग्ने नव्यसा वचस्तनूषु शंसमेषाम् । न्यराती रराव्णां विश्वा अर्यो अरातीरितो युच्छन्त्वामुरो नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

nyagne navyasā vacastanūṣu śaṃsameṣām | nyarātī rarāvṇāṃ viśvā aryo arātīrito yucchantvāmuro nabhantāmanyake same ||

(Propitiated), Agni, by our new praise baffle the hostile attempts of these against our person ns, consumethe enemies of those who are liberal (at sacred rites); may all our foolish assailants depart from here, may all ouradversaries perish.

अग्ने मन्मानि तुभ्यं कं घृतं न जुह्व आसनि । स देवेषु प्र चिकिद्धि त्वं ह्यसि पूर्व्यः शिवो दूतो विवस्वतो नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

agne manmāni tubhyaṃ kaṃ ghṛtaṃ na juhva āsani | sa deveṣu pra cikiddhi tvaṃ hyasi pūrvyaḥ śivo dūto vivasvato nabhantāmanyake same ||

I pour into your mouth, Agni, praises as others (fill it) with delicious butter; do you amidst the godsacknowledge (them), for you are ancient, the giver of happiness, the messenger of Vivaśvat; may all ouradversaries perish.

तत्तदग्निर्वयो दधे यथायथा कृपण्यति । ऊर्जाहुतिर्वसूनां शं च योश्च मयो दधे विश्वस्यै देवहूत्यै नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

tattadagnirvayo dadhe yathāyathā kṛpaṇyati | ūrjāhutirvasūnāṃ śaṃ ca yośca mayo dadhe viśvasyai devahūtyai nabhantāmanyake same ||

Agni grants whatever food is solicited; invoked with offerings, he bestows on the worshippershappiness springing from tranquility and the enjoyment (of objects of sense); he is requisite for all invocation ofthe gods; may all our adversaries perish.

स चिकेत सहीयसाग्निश्चित्रेण कर्मणा । स होता शश्वतीनां दक्षिणाभिरभीवृत इनोति च प्रतीव्यं नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

sa ciketa sahīyasāgniścitreṇa karmaṇā | sa hotā śaśvatīnāṃ dakṣiṇābhirabhīvṛta inoti ca pratīvyaṃ nabhantāmanyake same ||

Agni is known by his most powerful and manifold deeds; he is the invoker of the eternals; surroundedby victims, he proceeds against the foe; may all our adversaries perish.

अग्निर्जाता देवानामग्निर्वेद मर्तानामपीच्यम् । अग्निः स द्रविणोदा अग्निर्द्वारा व्यूर्णुते स्वाहुतो नवीयसा नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

agnirjātā devānāmagnirveda martānāmapīcyam | agniḥ sa draviṇodā agnirdvārā vyūrṇute svāhuto navīyasā nabhantāmanyake same ||

Agni knows the birth of the gods; Agni knows the secrets of mankind; Agni is the giver of riches; Agni,duly worshipped with a new (oblation), sets open the doors (of opulence); may all our adversaries perish.

अग्निर्देवेषु संवसुः स विक्षु यज्ञियास्वा । स मुदा काव्या पुरु विश्वं भूमेव पुष्यति देवो देवेषु यज्ञियो नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

agnirdeveṣu saṃvasuḥ sa vikṣu yajñiyāsvā | sa mudā kāvyā puru viśvaṃ bhūmeva puṣyati devo deveṣu yajñiyo nabhantāmanyake same ||

Agni has his abode among the gods, he (dwells) among pious people; he cherishes with plural asure manypious acts, as the earth all (beings); a god adorable among the gods; may all our adversaries perish.

यो अग्निः सप्तमानुषः श्रितो विश्वेषु सिन्धुषु । तमागन्म त्रिपस्त्यं मन्धातुर्दस्युहन्तममग्निं यज्ञेषु पूर्व्यं नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

yo agniḥ saptamānuṣaḥ śrito viśveṣu sindhuṣu | tamāganma tripastyaṃ mandhāturdasyuhantamamagniṃ yajñeṣu pūrvyaṃ nabhantāmanyake same ||

Let us approach that Agni who is ministered to by seven priess; who takes refuge in all rivers, who hasa triple dwelling plural ce, the slayer of the Dasyu for Mandhātā, who is foremost in sacrifices; may all ouradversaries perish.

अग्निस्त्रीणि त्रिधातून्या क्षेति विदथा कविः । स त्रीँरेकादशाँ इह यक्षच्च पिप्रयच्च नो विप्रो दूतः परिष्कृतो नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

agnistrīṇi tridhātūnyā kṣeti vidathā kaviḥ | sa trī~rekādaśā~ iha yakṣacca piprayacca no vipro dūtaḥ pariṣkṛto nabhantāmanyake same ||

Agni, the sage, inhabits the three elementary regions; may he, intelligent, and richly decorated, themessenger (of the gods), here perform worship to the thrice eleven deities, and satisfy all our desires; may all ouradversaries perish.

त्वं नो अग्न आयुषु त्वं देवेषु पूर्व्य वस्व एक इरज्यसि । त्वामापः परिस्रुतः परि यन्ति स्वसेतवो नभन्तामन्यके समे ॥

tvaṃ no agna āyuṣu tvaṃ deveṣu pūrvya vasva eka irajyasi | tvāmāpaḥ parisrutaḥ pari yanti svasetavo nabhantāmanyake same ||

You, ancient Agni, among men and gods, are alone to us the lord of wealth; the flowing waters confinedwithin their own banks flow around you;may all our adversaries perish.
