[rv-8-100] • 12 श्लोकाः

अयं त एमि तन्वा पुरस्ताद्विश्वे देवा अभि मा यन्ति पश्चात् । यदा मह्यं दीधरो भागमिन्द्रादिन्मया कृणवो वीर्याणि ॥

ayaṃ ta emi tanvā purastādviśve devā abhi mā yanti paścāt | yadā mahyaṃ dīdharo bhāgamindrādinmayā kṛṇavo vīryāṇi ||

I here go before you with my son, the Viśve devās follow after me; if, Indra, you keep wealth for me,then put forth your strength on my side.

दधामि ते मधुनो भक्षमग्रे हितस्ते भागः सुतो अस्तु सोमः । असश्च त्वं दक्षिणतः सखा मेऽधा वृत्राणि जङ्घनाव भूरि ॥

dadhāmi te madhuno bhakṣamagre hitaste bhāgaḥ suto astu somaḥ | asaśca tvaṃ dakṣiṇataḥ sakhā me'dhā vṛtrāṇi jaṅghanāva bhūri ||

I offer the exhilarating Soma first toyou, let the effused enjoyable Soma be plural ced within you; be you afriend on my right hand, then will we two smite our many enemies.

प्र सु स्तोमं भरत वाजयन्त इन्द्राय सत्यं यदि सत्यमस्ति । नेन्द्रो अस्तीति नेम उ त्व आह क ईं ददर्श कमभि ष्टवाम ॥

pra su stomaṃ bharata vājayanta indrāya satyaṃ yadi satyamasti | nendro astīti nema u tva āha ka īṃ dadarśa kamabhi ṣṭavāma ||

Offer fervently, may war-loving companions, true praise to Indra, if he truly exists; Nema says, "verilythere is no Indra", who has ever seen him? Whom shall we praise?

अयमस्मि जरितः पश्य मेह विश्वा जातान्यभ्यस्मि मह्ना । ऋतस्य मा प्रदिशो वर्धयन्त्यादर्दिरो भुवना दर्दरीमि ॥

ayamasmi jaritaḥ paśya meha viśvā jātānyabhyasmi mahnā | ṛtasya mā pradiśo vardhayantyādardiro bhuvanā dardarīmi ||

(Indra speaks): "here I am, worshipper, behold me here; I overpower all beings by my might; the offerersof sacrifice magnify me by their praises; I, the shatterer, shatter the worlds".

आ यन्मा वेना अरुहन्नृतस्यँ एकमासीनं हर्यतस्य पृष्ठे । मनश्चिन्मे हृद आ प्रत्यवोचदचिक्रदञ्छिशुमन्तः सखायः ॥

ā yanmā venā aruhannṛtasya~ ekamāsīnaṃ haryatasya pṛṣṭhe | manaścinme hṛda ā pratyavocadacikradañchiśumantaḥ sakhāyaḥ ||

"When the lovers of sacrifice ascended to me sitting alone on the back of my well-loved (formament),then my mind verily proclaimed to my heart, ' my friends with their children are crying to me' ".

विश्वेत्ता ते सवनेषु प्रवाच्या या चकर्थ मघवन्निन्द्र सुन्वते । पारावतं यत्पुरुसम्भृतं वस्वपावृणोः शरभाय ऋषिबन्धवे ॥

viśvettā te savaneṣu pravācyā yā cakartha maghavannindra sunvate | pārāvataṃ yatpurusambhṛtaṃ vasvapāvṛṇoḥ śarabhāya ṛṣibandhave ||

Verily all those deeds of yours, Maghavan, are to be proclaimed, which you have achieved for him whooffers libations in the sacrifice; that wealth of Pārāvat, collected by many; you have opened to Śarabha, thekinsman of the Ṛṣi.

प्र नूनं धावता पृथङ्नेह यो वो अवावरीत् । नि षीं वृत्रस्य मर्मणि वज्रमिन्द्रो अपीपतत् ॥

pra nūnaṃ dhāvatā pṛthaṅneha yo vo avāvarīt | ni ṣīṃ vṛtrasya marmaṇi vajramindro apīpatat ||

Haste now severally forward; he is not here who stopped your way-- has not Indra let fall histhunderbolt in the very vitals of that enemy?

मनोजवा अयमान आयसीमतरत्पुरम् । दिवं सुपर्णो गत्वाय सोमं वज्रिण आभरत् ॥

manojavā ayamāna āyasīmataratpuram | divaṃ suparṇo gatvāya somaṃ vajriṇa ābharat ||

Suparṇa, rushing swift as thought, passed through the metal city; then having gone to heaven hebrought the Soma to the thunderer.

समुद्रे अन्तः शयत उद्ना वज्रो अभीवृतः । भरन्त्यस्मै संयतः पुरःप्रस्रवणा बलिम् ॥

samudre antaḥ śayata udnā vajro abhīvṛtaḥ | bharantyasmai saṃyataḥ puraḥprasravaṇā balim ||

The thunderbolt lies in the midst of the sea, covered with the waters; (the foes) flying in front of thebattle bring offerings of submission to it.

यद्वाग्वदन्त्यविचेतनानि राष्ट्री देवानां निषसाद मन्द्रा । चतस्र ऊर्जं दुदुहे पयांसि क्व स्विदस्याः परमं जगाम ॥

yadvāgvadantyavicetanāni rāṣṭrī devānāṃ niṣasāda mandrā | catasra ūrjaṃ duduhe payāṃsi kva svidasyāḥ paramaṃ jagāma ||

When Vāk, the queen, the gladdener of the gods, sits down (in the sacrifice) uttering things not to beunderstood, she milks water and food for the four quarters (of the earth); whither now is her best portion gone?

देवीं वाचमजनयन्त देवास्तां विश्वरूपाः पशवो वदन्ति । सा नो मन्द्रेषमूर्जं दुहाना धेनुर्वागस्मानुप सुष्टुतैतु ॥

devīṃ vācamajanayanta devāstāṃ viśvarūpāḥ paśavo vadanti | sā no mandreṣamūrjaṃ duhānā dhenurvāgasmānupa suṣṭutaitu ||

The gods produced the goddess Vāk; her do animals of every kind utter; may she, Vāk, theall-gladdening cow, yielding meat and drink, come to us, worthily praised.

सखे विष्णो वितरं वि क्रमस्व द्यौर्देहि लोकं वज्राय विष्कभे । हनाव वृत्रं रिणचाव सिन्धूनिन्द्रस्य यन्तु प्रसवे विसृष्टाः ॥

sakhe viṣṇo vitaraṃ vi kramasva dyaurdehi lokaṃ vajrāya viṣkabhe | hanāva vṛtraṃ riṇacāva sindhūnindrasya yantu prasave visṛṣṭāḥ ||

O Viṣṇu my friends, stride forth lustily; O heaven, give room to contain the thunderbolt; let us smiteVṛtra, let us open the rivers; let them flow, set free, at the command of Indra.
