[rv-6-9] • 7 श्लोकाः

अहश्च कृष्णमहरर्जुनं च वि वर्तेते रजसी वेद्याभिः । वैश्वानरो जायमानो न राजावातिरज्ज्योतिषाग्निस्तमांसि ॥

ahaśca kṛṣṇamahararjunaṃ ca vi vartete rajasī vedyābhiḥ | vaiśvānaro jāyamāno na rājāvātirajjyotiṣāgnistamāṃsi ||

The dark day and the light day revolve alternate, affecting (the world) by their recognizable (properties); Agni vaiśvānara, manifested like a prince, dispels darkness by his lustre.

नाहं तन्तुं न वि जानाम्योतुं न यं वयन्ति समरेऽतमानाः । कस्य स्वित्पुत्र इह वक्त्वानि परो वदात्यवरेण पित्रा ॥

nāhaṃ tantuṃ na vi jānāmyotuṃ na yaṃ vayanti samare'tamānāḥ | kasya svitputra iha vaktvāni paro vadātyavareṇa pitrā ||

I understand not the threads (of the warp), nor the threads of the woof, nor that (cloth) which those who are assiduous in united exertion weave; of what (man) may the son declare the words that are to be spoken in the next world, (instrumental ucted) by a father abiding below.

स इत्तन्तुं स वि जानात्योतुं स वक्त्वान्यृतुथा वदाति । य ईं चिकेतदमृतस्य गोपा अवश्चरन्परो अन्येन पश्यन् ॥

sa ittantuṃ sa vi jānātyotuṃ sa vaktvānyṛtuthā vadāti | ya īṃ ciketadamṛtasya gopā avaścaranparo anyena paśyan ||

He verily knows the threads of the warp and or the woof, he speaks in due season what is to be said, who comprehends all this (universe); who is the protector of ambrosial water, sojourning both above and below, and contemplating (the world) under a different (manifestation).

अयं होता प्रथमः पश्यतेममिदं ज्योतिरमृतं मर्त्येषु । अयं स जज्ञे ध्रुव आ निषत्तोऽमर्त्यस्तन्वा वर्धमानः ॥

ayaṃ hotā prathamaḥ paśyatemamidaṃ jyotiramṛtaṃ martyeṣu | ayaṃ sa jajñe dhruva ā niṣatto'martyastanvā vardhamānaḥ ||

This vaiśvānara is the first offerer of burnt offerings; behold him; this is the light immortal among mortals; he has been born in a bodily shape, immoveable, all-pervading, immortal, ever increasing.

ध्रुवं ज्योतिर्निहितं दृशये कं मनो जविष्ठं पतयत्स्वन्तः । विश्वे देवाः समनसः सकेता एकं क्रतुमभि वि यन्ति साधु ॥

dhruvaṃ jyotirnihitaṃ dṛśaye kaṃ mano javiṣṭhaṃ patayatsvantaḥ | viśve devāḥ samanasaḥ saketā ekaṃ kratumabhi vi yanti sādhu ||

A steady light, swifter than thought, stationed among moving beings to show (the way) to happiness all the gods being of one mind, and of like wisdom, proceed respectfully to the presence of the one (chief) agent (vaiśvānara).

वि मे कर्णा पतयतो वि चक्षुर्वीदं ज्योतिर्हृदय आहितं यत् । वि मे मनश्चरति दूरआधीः किं स्विद्वक्ष्यामि किमु नू मनिष्ये ॥

vi me karṇā patayato vi cakṣurvīdaṃ jyotirhṛdaya āhitaṃ yat | vi me manaścarati dūraādhīḥ kiṃ svidvakṣyāmi kimu nū maniṣye ||

My ears are turned (to hear him), my eyes (to behold him); this light that is plural ced in the heart (seeks to know him); my mind, the receptable of distant (objects) hastens (towards him); what shall I declare him? How shall I comprehend him?

विश्वे देवा अनमस्यन्भियानास्त्वामग्ने तमसि तस्थिवांसम् । वैश्वानरोऽवतूतये नोऽमर्त्योऽवतूतये नः ॥

viśve devā anamasyanbhiyānāstvāmagne tamasi tasthivāṃsam | vaiśvānaro'vatūtaye no'martyo'vatūtaye naḥ ||

All the gods, alarmed, venerate you, Agni, abiding in darkness; may vaiśvānara preserve us with his protection; may the immortal Agni preserve us with his protection.
