[rv-6-49] • 15 श्लोकाः

स्तुषे जनं सुव्रतं नव्यसीभिर्गीर्भिर्मित्रावरुणा सुम्नयन्ता । त आ गमन्तु त इह श्रुवन्तु सुक्षत्रासो वरुणो मित्रो अग्निः ॥

stuṣe janaṃ suvrataṃ navyasībhirgīrbhirmitrāvaruṇā sumnayantā | ta ā gamantu ta iha śruvantu sukṣatrāso varuṇo mitro agniḥ ||

I commend with new hymns the man observant of his duty, and the beneficent Mitra and Varuṇa; may they, the mighty ones, Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni, come to our rite, and listen (to our praises).

विशोविश ईड्यमध्वरेष्वदृप्तक्रतुमरतिं युवत्योः । दिवः शिशुं सहसः सूनुमग्निं यज्ञस्य केतुमरुषं यजध्यै ॥

viśoviśa īḍyamadhvareṣvadṛptakratumaratiṃ yuvatyoḥ | divaḥ śiśuṃ sahasaḥ sūnumagniṃ yajñasya ketumaruṣaṃ yajadhyai ||

(I incite the worshipper) to offer worship to Agni, who is to be adored at the sacrifices of every ma; whose acts are free from arrogance; the lord of the two youthful (brides, heaven and earth); the child of heaven, the son of strength, the briliant symbol of sacrifice.

अरुषस्य दुहितरा विरूपे स्तृभिरन्या पिपिशे सूरो अन्या । मिथस्तुरा विचरन्ती पावके मन्म श्रुतं नक्षत ऋच्यमाने ॥

aruṣasya duhitarā virūpe stṛbhiranyā pipiśe sūro anyā | mithasturā vicarantī pāvake manma śrutaṃ nakṣata ṛcyamāne ||

May the two daughters of the radiant (sun) of various form, of whom one glitters with stars, the other (is bright) with the sun, mutually opposed, proceeding diversely, purifying (all things), and entitled to our laudation, be plural ased by the praise they hear (from us).

प्र वायुमच्छा बृहती मनीषा बृहद्रयिं विश्ववारं रथप्राम् । द्युतद्यामा नियुतः पत्यमानः कविः कविमियक्षसि प्रयज्यो ॥

pra vāyumacchā bṛhatī manīṣā bṛhadrayiṃ viśvavāraṃ rathaprām | dyutadyāmā niyutaḥ patyamānaḥ kaviḥ kavimiyakṣasi prayajyo ||

May our earnest praise proceed to the presence of Vāyu, the possessor of vast riches, the desired of all, the filler of his chariot (with wealth for his worshippers); most adorable (Vāyu), who are riding in a radiant car, and driving your Niyut (steeds), do you, who are far-seeing, show favour to the sage, (your adorer).

स मे वपुश्छदयदश्विनोर्यो रथो विरुक्मान्मनसा युजानः । येन नरा नासत्येषयध्यै वर्तिर्याथस्तनयाय त्मने च ॥

sa me vapuśchadayadaśvinoryo ratho virukmānmanasā yujānaḥ | yena narā nāsatyeṣayadhyai vartiryāthastanayāya tmane ca ||

May that splendid car of the Aśvins, which is harnessed at a thought, clothe my form (with radiance); that (car) with which, Nāsatyās, leaders of (rites), you go to the dwelling (of the worshipper) to fulfil his desires for his posterity and himself.

पर्जन्यवाता वृषभा पृथिव्याः पुरीषाणि जिन्वतमप्यानि । सत्यश्रुतः कवयो यस्य गीर्भिर्जगतः स्थातर्जगदा कृणुध्वम् ॥

parjanyavātā vṛṣabhā pṛthivyāḥ purīṣāṇi jinvatamapyāni | satyaśrutaḥ kavayo yasya gīrbhirjagataḥ sthātarjagadā kṛṇudhvam ||

Parjanya and Vāta, showerers of rain, and from te firmament available waters; sage Maruts, hearers of the truth, establishers of the world, multiply the moveable (wealth of him) by whose praises (you are propitiated).

पावीरवी कन्या चित्रायुः सरस्वती वीरपत्नी धियं धात् । ग्नाभिरच्छिद्रं शरणं सजोषा दुराधर्षं गृणते शर्म यंसत् ॥

pāvīravī kanyā citrāyuḥ sarasvatī vīrapatnī dhiyaṃ dhāt | gnābhiracchidraṃ śaraṇaṃ sajoṣā durādharṣaṃ gṛṇate śarma yaṃsat ||

May the purifying, amiable, graceful Sarasvatī, the bride of the hero, favour our pious rite; may she, together with the wives of the gods, well plural ased, bestow upon him who praises her a habitation free from defects and impenetrable (to wind and rain), and (grant him) felicity.

पथस्पथः परिपतिं वचस्या कामेन कृतो अभ्यानऴर्कम् । स नो रासच्छुरुधश्चन्द्राग्रा धियंधियं सीषधाति प्र पूषा ॥

pathaspathaḥ paripatiṃ vacasyā kāmena kṛto abhyānaḻarkam | sa no rāsacchurudhaścandrāgrā dhiyaṃdhiyaṃ sīṣadhāti pra pūṣā ||

May (the worshipper), influenced by the hope (of reward), approach with praise the adorable (Pūṣan), protector of all path; may he bestow upon us cows with golden horns; may Pūṣan bring to perfection our every rite.

प्रथमभाजं यशसं वयोधां सुपाणिं देवं सुगभस्तिमृभ्वम् । होता यक्षद्यजतं पस्त्यानामग्निस्त्वष्टारं सुहवं विभावा ॥

prathamabhājaṃ yaśasaṃ vayodhāṃ supāṇiṃ devaṃ sugabhastimṛbhvam | hotā yakṣadyajataṃ pastyānāmagnistvaṣṭāraṃ suhavaṃ vibhāvā ||

May the illustrious Agni, the invoker of the gods, worship (with this oblation), Tvaṣṭā, the first divider (of forms), the renowned, the giver of food, the well-handed, the vast, the adored of householders, the readily invoked.

भुवनस्य पितरं गीर्भिराभी रुद्रं दिवा वर्धया रुद्रमक्तौ । बृहन्तमृष्वमजरं सुषुम्नमृधग्घुवेम कविनेषितासः ॥

bhuvanasya pitaraṃ gīrbhirābhī rudraṃ divā vardhayā rudramaktau | bṛhantamṛṣvamajaraṃ suṣumnamṛdhagghuvema kavineṣitāsaḥ ||

Exalt Rudra, the parent of the world, with these hmns by day; (exalt) Rudra (with them) by night; animated by the far-seeing, we invoke him, mighty, of plural asing aspect, undecaying, endowed with felicity, (the source of) prosperity.

आ युवानः कवयो यज्ञियासो मरुतो गन्त गृणतो वरस्याम् । अचित्रं चिद्धि जिन्वथा वृधन्त इत्था नक्षन्तो नरो अङ्गिरस्वत् ॥

ā yuvānaḥ kavayo yajñiyāso maruto ganta gṛṇato varasyām | acitraṃ ciddhi jinvathā vṛdhanta itthā nakṣanto naro aṅgirasvat ||

Ever youthful wise, and adorable Maruts, come to the praise of your adorer; thus augmenting, leaders (of rites), and spreading (through the firmament), like rays (of light), refresh the scanty woods (with rain).

प्र वीराय प्र तवसे तुरायाजा यूथेव पशुरक्षिरस्तम् । स पिस्पृशति तन्वि श्रुतस्य स्तृभिर्न नाकं वचनस्य विपः ॥

pra vīrāya pra tavase turāyājā yūtheva paśurakṣirastam | sa pispṛśati tanvi śrutasya stṛbhirna nākaṃ vacanasya vipaḥ ||

Offer adoration to the valiant, powerful, swift-movig (company of the Maruts), as the herdsman (drives his) herd to their stall; may that (company) appropriate to its own body the praises of the pious worshipper, as the firmament (is studded) with stars.

यो रजांसि विममे पार्थिवानि त्रिश्चिद्विष्णुर्मनवे बाधिताय । तस्य ते शर्मन्नुपदद्यमाने राया मदेम तन्वा तना च ॥

yo rajāṃsi vimame pārthivāni triścidviṣṇurmanave bādhitāya | tasya te śarmannupadadyamāne rāyā madema tanvā tanā ca ||

May we be happy in a home, in riches, in person nn, in children, bestowd upon us by you, Viṣṇu, who with three (steps) made the terrestrial reions for Manu when harassed (by the asuras).

तन्नोऽहिर्बुध्न्यो अद्भिरर्कैस्तत्पर्वतस्तत्सविता चनो धात् । तदोषधीभिरभि रातिषाचो भगः पुरंधिर्जिन्वतु प्र राये ॥

tanno'hirbudhnyo adbhirarkaistatparvatastatsavitā cano dhāt | tadoṣadhībhirabhi rātiṣāco bhagaḥ puraṃdhirjinvatu pra rāye ||

May Ahirbudhnya (propitiated) by (our) hymns, and Parvata and Savitā give us food with water; may the bountiful (gods supply us), addition, with vegetable (grains); and may the all-wise Bhaga be propitious (to us) for (the acquisition of) riches.

नु नो रयिं रथ्यं चर्षणिप्रां पुरुवीरं मह ऋतस्य गोपाम् । क्षयं दाताजरं येन जनान्त्स्पृधो अदेवीरभि च क्रमाम विश आदेवीरभ्यश्नवाम ॥

nu no rayiṃ rathyaṃ carṣaṇiprāṃ puruvīraṃ maha ṛtasya gopām | kṣayaṃ dātājaraṃ yena janāntspṛdho adevīrabhi ca kramāma viśa ādevīrabhyaśnavāma ||

Grant us, (universal gods), riches, comprehending chariots, numerous dependants, many male offspring, (wealth) the giver of efficiency to the solemn rite, and a dwelling free from decay, wherewith we may overcome malevolent men and unrighteous (spirits), and afford support to those people who are devoted to the gods.
