[rv-4-10] • 8 श्लोकाः

अग्ने तमद्याश्वं न स्तोमैः क्रतुं न भद्रं हृदिस्पृशम् । ऋध्यामा त ओहैः ॥

agne tamadyāśvaṃ na stomaiḥ kratuṃ na bhadraṃ hṛdispṛśam | ṛdhyāmā ta ohaiḥ ||

We celebrate you today, Agni, who are like a horse (in conveying our burden) with your praises, conveying (our wishes to the gods), and (who are) like a benefactor, propitious and affectionate.

अधा ह्यग्ने क्रतोर्भद्रस्य दक्षस्य साधोः । रथीॠतस्य बृहतो बभूथ ॥

adhā hyagne kratorbhadrasya dakṣasya sādhoḥ | rathīṝtasya bṛhato babhūtha ||

Be now the conveyer, Agni, of our auspicious, powerful, efficacious, truthful, and great sacrifice.

एभिर्नो अर्कैर्भवा नो अर्वाङ्स्वर्ण ज्योतिः । अग्ने विश्वेभिः सुमना अनीकैः ॥

ebhirno arkairbhavā no arvāṅsvarṇa jyotiḥ | agne viśvebhiḥ sumanā anīkaiḥ ||

Agni, who like the sun are light, propitiated by these our hymns, come to our presence with all your hosts (of radiance).

आभिष्टे अद्य गीर्भिर्गृणन्तोऽग्ने दाशेम । प्र ते दिवो न स्तनयन्ति शुष्माः ॥

ābhiṣṭe adya gīrbhirgṛṇanto'gne dāśema | pra te divo na stanayanti śuṣmāḥ ||

Glorifying you, Agni, today, with these our praises, may we offer you (oblations); your (flames), bright as those of the sun, roar aloud.

तव स्वादिष्ठाग्ने संदृष्टिरिदा चिदह्न इदा चिदक्तोः । श्रिये रुक्मो न रोचत उपाके ॥

tava svādiṣṭhāgne saṃdṛṣṭiridā cidahna idā cidaktoḥ | śriye rukmo na rocata upāke ||

Your lovely radiance, Agni, whether by day or by night, shines upon (all objects) like an ornament (to give them) beauty.

घृतं न पूतं तनूररेपाः शुचि हिरण्यम् । तत्ते रुक्मो न रोचत स्वधावः ॥

ghṛtaṃ na pūtaṃ tanūrarepāḥ śuci hiraṇyam | tatte rukmo na rocata svadhāvaḥ ||

Giver of sustenance, (Agni), your favour is free from fault, like clarified butter; your pure and golden lustre shines like an ornament.

कृतं चिद्धि ष्मा सनेमि द्वेषोऽग्न इनोषि मर्तात् । इत्था यजमानादृतावः ॥

kṛtaṃ ciddhi ṣmā sanemi dveṣo'gna inoṣi martāt | itthā yajamānādṛtāvaḥ ||

Truthful, Agni, verily you remove from the mortal who instrumental tutes (your) worship, whatever sin has been committed (by him) of old.

शिवा नः सख्या सन्तु भ्रात्राग्ने देवेषु युष्मे । सा नो नाभिः सदने सस्मिन्नूधन् ॥

śivā naḥ sakhyā santu bhrātrāgne deveṣu yuṣme | sā no nābhiḥ sadane sasminnūdhan ||

May our friendly and fraternal attentions to your deities prove fortunate; for such (attentions shown) in every sacrifice (form) our security in the sphere (of the gods).
